About the property

House, 4 Bedrooms, 2 Baths, (Sleeps 10)

The Pine Forest Retreat is centrally located in the heart of beautiful Bend, Oregon. One block from the Pilot Butte hiking trail, 3 miles from the Old Mill District and downtown Bend, this home is 25 minutes from Mt. Bachelor and the high lakes. Vacationers can find many activities in Bend including hiking, biking, skiing, rafting, kayaking, fly fishing and shopping. Downtown Bend and the Old Mill District have a variety of antique stores, restaurants, and retail shopping. There is nothing more enjoyable than a stroll around the Mirror Pond at any time of the day! Visit historic Pine Tavern for lunch or dinner and enjoy the outdoor patio dining in the summer.

The home is beautifully but practically decorated in a cabin-like décor. This non-smoking home is designed to handle large families or groups of friends and is kid-friendly. It is located on ½ acre where local deer and squirrels are common sights. The large, fenced, private backyard features a patio and gas barbecue. Dine out on the patio and enjoy the quiet of the Larkspur neighborhood.

The master bedroom has a king bed, armoire with a flat screen TV; the hunting bedroom features a queen bed; the bear bedroom has a queen bed, with a crib for families with an infant or toddler. The pine tree bedroom features two trundle beds to accommodate four people--we recently added a TV and DVD for kids to have a separate area adjacent to the dining room. The living room has comfortable seating for all, a 42” flat screen TV, and a gas fireplace surrounded by local lava rock. The dining table can seat up to 10 people. Wi-Fi is provided free of charge for vacationers who need Internet access. Each bathroom has a blow dryer.

About Donna Bergmen

Clark and I enjoy sharing our home with visitors to Bend. We strive to keep it comfortable and affordable!

Donna Bergmen purchased this house in 2010

Why Donna Bergmen chose Bend

This home is 3/4 a mile from the home we owned from 1979-83 when we had to leave our beloved Bend for California's Central Valley. For 25 years we have stayed with friends and now we can stay in our own home and share the beauty of Bend with others.

What makes this house unique

We enjoy getting coffee at the Looney Bean downtown and walking around the Mirror Pond and Downtown Bend neighborhoods. In addition, the skiing at Mt Bachelor is great! My husband is an avid golfer, hunter, and fisherman and Bend has all of that to offer.

Guestbook comments from the owner

This home became a meeting place to share a Christmas together and enjoy our first family snowboarding adventure. This was the first white Christmas for me and our first Christmas with all our kids in 5 years. We brought our 2 labs and they loved the yard filled with snow. Thank you for this rental. It gave us memories that will last forever.

Roomy, nice rental in Bend

  • 5 of 5

We enjoyed our stay. Everything we needed was provided and the house was clean and very well maintained. Owner gave us lots of information about the house as well as had pamphlets available for attractions. Would be ideal for two couples with little ones, there were lots of toys and toddler level things. We would gladly stay again.

Great house and location!

  • 5 of 5

We spent a week at Pine Forest Retreat in July and just loved the house. It was very roomy for our group of 6. The beds were comfortable, the house was very clean and the kitchen was stocked with all the necessary utensils. The location was close to town and the Old Mill District. We used the whole house fan in the evenings and it worked very well to cool the house. Our kids and dogs loved the yard and the neighborhood is very quiet. Safeway, Costco, and Whole Foods are close by. We’ll be returning in the future.

We found the house very comfortable for us. We ended up needing the fans to keep cool in the hot weather but it cools off nicely at night so it worked out OK. The beds were a little bit loud they creak quite a bit but that would be our only negative comment. It wouldn't be enough to keep us going back is just an FYI

Owner's Response: Hi Mike, Thanks for submitting your comments. Since the beds are on hard floor surface and not carpet, I find if the master bed and one of the queens move away from the wall. They are fastened to their respective headboards. Once pushed back against the wall, the problem is solved. Perhaps we should fasten the headboards to the wall. Weather is certainly not something we can control and Bend had an unusually warm summer. The normal high is in the mid 80s during August and we find the whole house fan works well. We are exploring air conditioning if this is a new weather trend. We have found over the 7 years of renting that air conditioning is not normally needed and we are able to keep our rates affordable without the added cost of a/c. We are glad you found the house and yard comfortable for your group.

Awesome Place for larger groups

  • 5 of 5

Nice home with large fenced back yard and trees. The house sleeps eight or more - we were just 6 but had extended family over a couple times for backyard grilling and playing games. Home is on the east side though is only a mile from grocery stores and shopping, and is less than a 10 minute drive to downtown and central districts. Thanks Donna for sharing your home

Pine Forest Retreat

  • 4 of 5

The property was well taken care of and had plenty of amenities for kids and dogs. The AC is a whole-house fan so be prepared for some noise and uneven cooling. But it did keep the house cool in July with it 90 outside. And in the summer, when you're trying to keep things closed up it is dark inside. The lights were anemic; we bought additional; bulbs fro three fixtures and could have used more, and the dark furniture, floors and walls didn't help. Most of the time we're were out and about but again, be prepared when you arrive back home. But overall a nice place to stay, especially with dogs, and the kids enjoyed the day-beds and toys. And close to a trail system that takes you to Larkspur Park.

Owner's Response: Hi Michael, Thanks for the review. We appreciate knowing what our guests experienced since we are only there every 10-12 weeks. I am sorry you bought light bulbs. The hall closet has extra bulbs on the shelf and would have been plenty for the shortage you experienced. Since the service cleans in daylight hours they don’t notice when bulbs have burned out. Renting a house definitely is different than the hotel experience. The month of July is the warmest month and the whole house fan is the option that keeps our nightly rate so affordable. My husband talks about installing air conditioning but I don’t like the sound of that coming on and off all night long. We would have to increase our nightly rate. I like the affordability of our rate for families for most of the year that the install of a/c would affect. We hope you will come back again. Sincerely, Donna Bergmen
