Kara is a Michigan native with an appreciation for nature, a passion for good design and a love for historic homes. She moved to Kalamazoo from the shores of Lake Michigan in 1990 to attend college. She remained in Kalamazoo because of it's youthful energy, amazing people and an up and coming direction which has since been realized.
When she's not combing the earth for treasures to use in her kottages and working on DIY projects, she's often found running, cross country skiing, biking, kayaking and traveling.

We have had a fabulous time in your kottge. It was so cozy and I felt so comfortable. The kottage contains everything to make for a great time. I love the decor and furnishings, too.
Thank you from the bottom of our hearts!
This loft was perfect. The owners have thought of everything. It was so tastefully decorated and comfortable. The beds were just right and there were robes in the closet for us to use!! My granddaughter said she would love to live there!
Mom and I stayed in the Driftwood cottage during the 4th of July weekend of 2016. The place was easy to find and very close to attractions and downtown shopping. The checkin process was very simple...just input the two codes given to you and you are all set. The patio area was very welcoming and had a nice setup. You can have your breakfast, lunch and dinner outside at the table that seats 8 (I believe). My mom cooked on the grill and it was a very relaxing time...especially when the patio lights came on. Another couple staying at the cottage made a pitfire so mom and I joined them and had a really nice conversation. The parking was a nice gravel lot. Our cottage was on the top floor and was beautiful and ,very spacious, spotless, welcoming, and cozy all at the same time. The decorations were beautiful and made you feel as though this was your second home. The beds were very comfortable with top of the line bedding. There were ceiling fans in each room which was great with controlling the temperature. The kitchen...although small was very accommodating and most of what we needed was there. The breakfast food that was there consisted of cereal (with almond milk..very good), waffles, bagels, sausage, granola, cinnamon rolls, coffee and tea. Eggs would have been nice but we made it work. The entertainment system was nice and there were a basket of DVD'S to choose from if you didn't want to watch cable. The bathroom was stocked with everything you may have forgotten...mouthwash, lotion, shaving cream, cotton balls, lint brushes...etc...the owners was very easy to work with and answered all questions. I can't think of anything negative to say. I do want to mention the steps leading inside the cottage...they are very thin, narrow stairs which may be difficult for those with knee or back issues. It was a little time consuming trying to get all of our luggage up and back down the stairs. However we made it work. If you are in great shape and young...if won't be an issue at all. However if you are older with limited mobility, you should consider one of the cottage on the first floor. I do recommend this cottage. I almost forgot that its dog friendly!! I'll be back soon!!
We stayed at Kara's Kottages with another couple and our dogs in the 2-bedroom rental and had a wonderful night. The rental was FULLY equipped with everything from fluffy towels to high-end bedding. There's also everything you need for that morning cup of coffee/tea, to the perfect breakfast.
We will definitely be back. Thanks Kara for being pet friendly and for taking such good care of us. :)
My family stayed here last weekend in the Driftwood Kottage. It was decorated beautifully and had so many amazing touches. The kitchen was stocked with much more than a typical rental home supplies. The outdoor space looked very welcoming. If you are traveling with small kids or older adults, be aware that there is a set of extremely steep stairs that made our stay somewhat treacherous with our small children. There are also train tracks right behind the house and it was quite noisy between that and the street noise.
We found the Driftwood Kottage, clean, comforatable and decorated with charm and taste. It was an extra touch to stock the fridge with breakfast items. The beds were very comfortable. Good job Kara!
Our family stayed in Kara's Kottages over 4th of July weekend. We rented Our Birch Bark and Our Drift Wood. The decor is very warm and welcoming. There were breakfast foods to meet a variety of tastes. I especially thought the granola was delicious. Kara thought of everything from Q-tips and Static Guard in the bathroom to sound machines in every bedroom. We ate one dinner out on the deck with plenty of room for 13 people. Thanks for your hospitality!
