Dutch's house was exactly what we were looking for. Really beautiful house with very comfortable beds. Nice sized kitchen for cooking, etc. Nice, big deck for hanging outside. Beautiful scenery and peaceful surroundings outdoors. The river was so much fun to trounce around and play in. We had a great time in the river swimming, kayaking and playing in the waterfall. Dutch was very easy to communicate with and even helped us get ESPN on the television. As we arrived, we realized we didn't get that channel and upon requesting it, Dutch called up the company and set it up for us. That was truly special as it allowed us to watch the Georgia game. As huge Dawgs fans that meant a lot to us and helped make the weekend even more special. It was three days in serene beauty and quiet paradise. Couldn't have asked for a better trip. Thank you, Dutch.
The Monarch lodge is located in a great place to relax and have some peace. We saw deer several times during our week stay. You can hear the river from the deck. The Lodge has 3 floors, 3 beds, 3 bathrooms. Kitchen had all the things we needed to cook. Several blow up mattresses. Plenty of room. If you take small toddlers take a baby gate for the main stairs. The stairs going down has a door which was great for us. I wished it had more cleared space in the back yard for kids to play. Not cut trees or anything just maybe an area that was cleared of the brush so you don't have to worry as much about them stepping on a critter.
We saw kayaks the first day coming down the river. They stopped and played in the falls down the river. There are two falls. One right at the property and one just a short walk down river. It is bigger. The creek that runs beside the house was nice and cold. We saw crawfish and tiny trout. We attempted to fish the Etowah all week in hopes of catching some trout but were unsuccessful. We stopped at a local hunting/ fishing shop and he told us that it was probably to hot in July for them in the Etowah. He recommended canned Niblet corn to fish with. He was also nice and told us of another place not to far from the Lodge to try, but we never got to go.
Amaicolala Falls-Nice place to visit. Short drive from cabin too.
Consolidated gold mine-Kids liked finding the gems.
The Smith House: Okay food. Corn & Broccoli Casserole was not good.
Steak and Shake-It was new and clean.
Spoons and Shine-Yogurt shop was great.
We had a great time. Great place to stay and visit.
Property was in an excellent location to be able to relax, unwind, and enjoy the peace and quiet of the great outdoors.
It was convient to many attractions of the area and located conveniently. House was clean and there was a lot of room to spread out.
Will bring all of family back for next visit. It would be great to see the driveway get paved all the way to bottom of the hill to the house
to make it easier to navigate the driveway. Really enjoyed my time at the LODGE. Would definitely recommend it to my friends.
While an estate sale was conducted at our home in Alpharetta, GA, we were able to escape just an hour away into a wonderful cabin in the woods! Hard to believe such a peaceful place exists so close to Atlanta. I was able to totally decompress during a very stressful time. My husband, son and friend were able to fish right in the river there and kayak as well. Very close to Dahlonega and many good restaurants. The cabin has everything and my favorite spot is the reading nook up in the master suite. Some very comfy couches that look out a picture window with a view of the river! In the morning it was nice to have coffee out on the deck! We read some of the reviews about the property manager being so close, but we never saw her and it did not bother us a bit. We took three cars and parked one up on the cul-de-sac and it was no big deal. We would definitely do a return trip.
