About Andy and Lisa Birrell
My family has been vacationing in Geneva-on-the-Lakes since the early 50's. We started out at The Zimmerman cottages for many years and then when I was about 12 we bought next door at Poplar Breeze Cottages. When I finished college, I would look along the lake and make a list of homes that had potential and when this home came available, my parents bought it. We have had so many fond memories and great adventures here at the lake and hope that others will create their own, ones that will last a lifetime as well.
Andy and Lisa Birrell purchased this House in 1987
Why Andy and Lisa Birrell chose Geneva-on-the-Lake
We realized the potential this home had when we bought it; it is located on three lots, it is situated about 30 feet above Lake Erie and is on a quiet street just beyond the Geneva-on-the-Lake mile long strip leaving us within walking distance of the many attractions. We have made many improvements throughout the years to make our home on the lake a very comfortable and enjoyable place to spend time with family and friends. We have several more projects in mind and will continue to work them in as the time allows.
What makes this House unique
A great front porch to watch passer-by's; a fabulous screened/glassed in sun room to relax and watch the activity on of the lake or watch the sun go down; several decks to choose from, one just outside the sun room and one down by the water; not to mention 100+ feet of lake front and a 60' finger pier that you can fish from. What else do you need when you are looking for peace and tranquility?

Everything was wonderful about this house rental. The pictures really reflect the property exactly. The one flaw is that there is no AC on the first floor. The rooms each have AC units. The first floor gets pretty uncomfortable on a hot muggy day. It is a short walk from the strip, but far away enough that the noise doesn't carry . The surrounding properties are blocked by foliage so you feel like you really have your own place. Kitchen is fully equiped for cooking. detailed directions are posted around the house for any question you might have and the owners respond very quickly to questions.
Betty's Beach House was very clean, within walking distance to the strip and park. The screened in porch was great for morning coffee and playing games with the family. The grassy area and walk down to the water was an added benefit. Lisa was easy to work with and available for questions.
Fabulous, fun and a tad funky (in a good way!)
My group of four adult couples spent the weekend and couldn't have enjoyed Betty's Beach House (BBH) more. The location is perfect, within easy walking distance of the strip, but far enough away that you couldn't hear the bands.
You kind of have your choice of three lake views: From the large back porch/patio, from the deck closer to the lake, or from the large grassy yard. The street side has a wonderful old-school porch where we sat in the morning to eat our breakfasts.
We made the most of the large, grass yard, playing a hilarious game of croquet using the set we found in the basement. There were other games down there too, as well as lots of folding patio chairs we could use.
The house is very clean and well maintained and has useful things in almost every cupboard and closet. If you forgot something, don't worry. You will probably find it somewhere in the house! There were enough seasonings and staples in the cupboard that we probably could have made a meal or too!
As you can see from the photo, the house is a very traditional colonial with four bedrooms upstairs. (Here comes the funky part,)
If you had the most-fun 75-year-old aunt in the world, who never slowed down and still knows how to party, this is how her house would be decorated. There are accessories, art and furniture that look they go back to the 60s, but also things that look like the thing you bought at a gift shop last year after six beers that seemed really beautiful at the time, but now you look at it ask yourself "Why did I buy that?"
The hosts were very helpful and accommodating, and quickly responded to our various inquiries.
Thanks for letting use your house!
get a way heaven
loved the property location, house, everything!!!! would stay here again! owners were very helpful.
Excellent house and location for GOTL trip
Our group had a few couples and we all had little toddlers with us. We had such a nice time and the house was perfect. And the location was excellent too. We could walk everywhere that we wanted to go and we had amazing views of the lake. The property owners were very accommodating and made our stay very easy and relaxing. The house and all its amenities were perfect for our group. We would definitely like to return and stay again. Thanks!!!
Betty's beach house was fabulous. Great location and super CLEAN! Cheryl
Stayed in October '18; came in the off season to visit wineries and to celebrate some birthdays. There were 8 adults and we found the house to be in a great location, right on the water, super screened in porch.....and very clean. All of us said we would come here again. And we would definitely recommend this rental to everyone.
Thanks for a great experience
This stately lakefront home is situated on a large, beautiful lot which sits about 30 feet above Lake Erie. There are several levels of decks from which you may relax and enjoy being on the water or take in waterfront activities along the beach. We are located in a quiet residential area at the furthest end of the strip. You can easily walk to the many attractions or restaurants on the strip or just simply hang out and enjoy the tranquility and beauty of this lovely home. This is a non-smoking residence.
