Our son Rob was competing in all the snowboarding competitions,'back in the day',as
he would say now! He found this chalet to buy and we all have owned it since then.
We come up as often as we can as we just love the mountains and ambiance of Big Bear!
We live in Summerland, Ca. and have a fabulous ocean view, so we have the best of
Donna DaFoe purchased this chalet in 1996
Big Bear Lake is such a fabulous area for sports and relaxation both in the Summer and
Winter! Not to far from LA and the rest of Southern Cal.
Our cabin is close to ski areas and shopping and the nearby lake for boating and fishing too!
We had a great time at your place in Big Bear! A wonderful family reunion
was so much fun at your cozy chalet!! We all had such fun
on the slopes and came in from the cold to a blazing fireplace and hot
chocolates all around!
Cougar Cabin is a nice getaway!
We had everything we needed fr a family of 4 including a nice enclosed deck area off the back perfect for snow play. Although we did not go to the ski resorts, it is very close to the overflow parking lot for Big Bear Mountain that runs a shuttle service right from the lot.
For families with small children, please know that Cougar is a rather busy street (maybe not busy in the urban sense, but there is regular traffic and the cars are moving fast) The cabin is situated fairly close to the road and we had to keep a close eye on our kids when we were in the front driveway trying to keep them from running out in the street. That's the only thing I would say you can't glean from photos or map view. It was still a quiet area, you will not hear cars through the night but not a great street to go for a walk on with small kids.
My husband, two daughters, and I stayed here Jan 14-16 to celebrate my birthday. We could not have planned a more perfect weekend! Snow fell in Big Bear leading up to our stay which provided plenty of entertainment for our girls.
The cabin was a delightful refuge - warm and comfortable. The girls enjoyed the vastness of the upstairs bedroom which provided them with their own exciting oasis to dream and play. Overall, it was a lovely time.
These are a few issues we had with the cabin based on our experience:
1) The kitchen is a bit small - if you are like me and like family-cooked meals, this may be an issue for you.
2) There is a room that is locked off. While we did not expect more than 2 bedrooms, it felt a bit strange to know there was an entire room that was not accessible. This was a bit unsettling and had we known in advance, would not have stayed most likely. We're funny that way.
3) The directions on the fridge for the trash were outdated - we had to drive to 2 different places on the way out.
4) The carbon dioxide/fire alarm in the downstairs bedroom was chirping which took us a while to figure out. We ended up unplugging it during our stay.
We really enjoyed our stay. It was myself, my husband our 1 year old and our dog :) Donna was very kind and accommodating. It is a great location close to many things. We will be back.
John and Donna are very nice people. They even called to see how my stay is going. The place overlooks Bear Mountain parking lot and shuttle service. It's also close to tubing off Division, if that's your thing. Bring plenty of DVD's, if you want to watch movies.
Our family of (4) had a wonderful stay. This cute cabin was equipped in everything as promised on VRBO. Beds were super comfortable. The place stayed nice and warm. The use of fireplace made it even cozier. Donna, the owner, was very responsive and accommodating. We definitely would like to return there. Thank you Donna.
The cabin is nicely decorated, kitchen well-equipped, and beds comfortable. The cabin is close to good restaurants, ski slopes, and other activities. The cabin was perfect for our family and for making memories. The owners were more than helpful with our questions. Cougar Cabin is a jewel.
