Space 1,300 sq ft
Property type apartment
Minimum Stay 5 nights

About the property

Families. Honeymooners. Kite Surfing. Local Beach Bar. Rodney Bay 12 mins away.

Our property is a large, beautifully presented 2 double bedroom Caribbean style apartment which is situated around a 33m pool set in tropical gardens. It is on the first floor (UK = ground floor) and is ideal for a family, or one or two couples. Perfect for honeymooners too! Cas en Bas Beach is only a 2 minute walk away where you can kite surf, horse ride or relax at the local beach bar. St Lucia Golf Club is located next door. Restaurants and shops at Rodney Bay are only a 12 minute drive away.

Each bedroom is air-conditioned and has an upright fan and large en suite shower room. The sitting room and the master bedroom both have a TV. The electrical outlets are British 240 volt standard 3 pin sockets. However, there are two 110 volt US style sockets in each bedroom. The property has MOSQUITO SCREENS installed throughout and FREE WIFI internet access.

The fully appointed kitchen with NEW APPLIANCES means that you have the choice of eating in or alfresco on the covered terrace. The private courtyard outside (with sun loungers) leads onto a large sundeck around the 33m pool.

There is a set of golf clubs available in the apartment if you were interested in playing at the St Lucia Golf Club which is next door to the property.

My property manager, who is based in St Lucia, will make contact with you and can advise on airport transfer/hire cars, tours, local knowledge, babysitting services etc. She will meet you upon arrival at the apartment and provide orientation of the property and surroundings. As I reside in the UK, she will be your point of contact in St Lucia should any problems arise.

Electricity is an additional charge and a meter reading is taken on arrival and then again on date of departure so you only pay for what you use - on average US$50 - US$60 per week.

For info, I recommend that all guests read through the Guest Information Sheet before leaving for vacation as there are some useful general tips.

About Clare Van de Velde

I lived in the apartment in St Lucia for 2 years and recently returned to the UK for my daughter's education. I loved living in St Lucia and the relaxed lifestyle it has to offer. My daughter also enjoyed her time on the island and became an adept sailor. We always felt safe and the people were very friendly. There is something for everyone here.

Clare Van de Velde purchased this apartment in 2007

Why Clare Van de Velde chose Cap Estate

Some years ago now, we had been thinking of buying a holiday-home and, when on vacation in St Lucia, we fell in love with the Island and the rest is history!

What makes this apartment unique

The apartment stood out for us as the rooms are of a good size and it looks out onto the 33m swimming pool. The property is also only a few minutes walk to the beach which is on the atlantic side of the island and therefore has a constant breeze which is always very welcome.

Impressive accommodation in an ideal location

  • 5 of 5

This was our first visit to St Lucia and we couldn't have asked for a better way to start, what we hope will be, a long association. Clare's detailed pack, sent beforehand, gave us all the information we needed to prepare, and after a trouble free journey up the East coast from Hewanorra airport we arrived at Cotton Bay Village and were met by the charming and efficient Laura who showed us to Hibiscus. Clare's apartment is tastefully furnished, in excellent decorative order, has modern appliances and fully met our expectations. We enjoyed the pool being right outside the patio door and were happy to find humming birds and a variety of other nearly-tame birds in the well maintained garden area. We also swam on the nearby beach on a number of occasions. Our electricity bill turned out to be modest by following Clare's recommendations for cooling the bedrooms with the AC prior to using the fans at night.

We would fully recommend this property and certainly hope to return.

Absolutely tranquil and gorgeous

  • 5 of 5

Loved everything about this spot in paradise. It's exactly as pictured and the local support team on-site are very responsive and helpful. Kite surfing and horse back riding on the beach within walking distance, and all of the amenities of Rodney Bay just a short drive away. Wish we were still there!

Very nice

  • 4 of 5

We loved your house!

The location was right outside the pool - great !

The only thing we didn't like was the couches . We thought they were a little uncomfortable and the tvs could be updated. The voices were muffled at times .

Lorna was very nice and informative giving us directions and recommendations - a great asset to our stay.

Owner's Response: Dear David & JoAnne, I am delighted that you enjoyed your stay at my property in St Lucia. As you say, being right by the pool is a great spot! Re the sofas, you are the first of our guests to comment, but I guess this is down to personal taste! On the subject of the TVs, as you were aware there was a problem with Cable which was outside of our control but has now been resolved. Best wishes. Clare

An amazing trip

  • 5 of 5

We had a fantastic time, the place was very nice and was comfortable for all four of us. All of the recommendations on food and local activities were great! The pool 20ft from the back door made lounging and cooling down effortless. Lorna and Clare were so nice and helpful before and during our stay. Strongly recommended!

The condo was lovely: clean, recently decorated with nice decorative touches.

  • 4 of 5

The condo was everything one wants in a vacation rental. The condition of the condo was excellent and the decor was tasteful, The pool and beach were right there and we were able to swim and walk everyday. The screened windows were a boon. We did not need to use the air conditioning once because the breeze and fans kept us comfortable day and night.

At 28 degrees nearly every day, our stay was a warm respite from sub-zero temperatures in Western Canada. We like to cook and found the everyday market in Castries offered wonderful produce from the Island. The heliconia, ginger and anthuriums we bought early in our stay keep our quarters bright and welcoming.

All in all we had a very enjoyable stay.

Although we are a bit past the age when one might take up kite surfing, it was great fun to watch.

Owner's Response: Dear Anne Marie I'm delighted that you enjoyed your month in my apartment in St Lucia and it's good to hear that you took advantage of the fresh, local produce market in Castries for some home cooking. As I lived there for a few years, the apartment is well set up for a "home from home" experience. My family and I still visit St Lucia regularly and make sure that the property is in tip top condition for our guests. I agree, the kite surfing is fun to watch especially as the beach is only a few minutes walk away. All the very best to you. Clare

Very nice apartment on the beach at Cas en Bas.

  • 5 of 5

Just returned from a month of kite surfing at Cas en Bas. We stayed on the beach at Cotton Bay (very nice). Rode every day except three when we went diving with Scuba Steve and water falling in the South. Beth and Bobby at Kiteboarding St Lucia were AMAZING with tips for nailing new tricks, fixing my 12M's leaky valve, rides to Duke's on Fridays, and loaning surf boards on the lighter days. Three sessions of night kiteboarding at Simon's Aquaholics full moon party last Saturday, with the DJ's music pumping over the bay, was a life-changing experience for me. Much respect to local artisans Woodpecker, Robert, and Coco, Marjorie's creole shrimp, Fidel's beautiful horses, Garrett's fresh bread, and badass local riders and party partners Sheila, Glenn, Sandy, and Sahab. Love and miss all of you! Don't forget to feed Spock!

Owner's Response: Dear Sean I enjoyed very much reading your review as it depicts life at Cotton Bay/Cas en Bas beautifully whilst also taking me back to a time when I lived in St Lucia - I miss it!! Our apartment is so conveniently placed around the pool but also a short stroll to the beach so you don't have far to carry your kitesurfing gear. Take care. Clare

St Lucia is an unspoilt, beautiful island in the Caribbean Ocean with a lovely climate all year round. The Island's relaxed lifestyle allows you to switch off completely and take in it's natural beauty and the people are very welcoming and friendly.

Cotton Bay Village is a secluded condominium on the North East of St Lucia set in beautifully landscaped tropical gardens. It consists of only 72 units: stand-alone villas and small apartment blocks housing 3/4 apartments.

Natural and unspoilt Cas en Bas beach is only one hundred yards from the apartment and provides a lovely, cooling breeze. If you are a kite-surfer or would like to take lessons, there are 2 kite-surfing schools right there on the beach. Also, you can enjoy a drink or two at Marjory's local beach bar.

Plenty of opportunity to relax or if you want to try something more energetic utilise some of the local sporting amenities - kite-surfing, golf, tennis, yoga, horse riding, diving to name but a few. Try out the new Diving Centre near Rodney Bay Marina or simply take in the beautiful Caribbean sea life by putting on your snorkel.

Next door to the condominium is St Lucia Golf Club, a challenging 18-hole golf course. You may borrow the set of golf clubs available in the apartment or hire clubs at the golf club. The golf club provides a free pick up service. Green fees vary but around US$120 per 18 holes including golf buggy.

Rodney Bay is a 12 min drive away and has a range of restaurants catering for all tastes and night life available for you to enjoy. Every Friday night there is a Street Party in nearby Gros Islet known as the 'Jump Up' where you can sample local food and music.

A taxi to Rodney Bay from the apartment will cost around USD16 one way. If you plan to see more of the island you might consider hiring a car to give you maximum flexibility. For info, Hewanorra Airport (1.5 hours away) & George F L Charles Airport (Vigie) (30 mins away). Helicopter is available for transfer from Hewanorra Airport to George F L Charles Airport.

For food shopping there are 2 Massy’s stores in Rodney Bay. The Massy Gourmet (formerly GL store) sells more upmarket products including products from Waitrose in the UK, whilst the other Massy store sells general groceries and local produce.

Plenty of lovely local food to try: chicken roti, fried plantain, saltfish hot bakes, breadfruit pie, fig salad or grilled dorado to mention but a few. Also local fresh juice: soursop, tamarind, passion fruit, lime, mango depending on what is in season. Rum is of course the staple alcoholic drink here which is served in so many ways. I recommend Jambe de Bois Restaurant in Pigeon Island National Park to sample some of the above local dishes. Try out the jazz there on a Sunday evening.

Also, I recommend buying fresh coconut water in bottles on the side of the road - you will see trucks piled up with coconuts, stop there! (approximately EC$10 for a large bottle). It is great for rehydration. It tastes good with whisky too!

If you fancy some duty free shopping there is the Bay Walk Mall in Rodney Bay and also Pointe Seraphine and La Place Carenage in Castries where the cruise ships come in.

There are lots of excursions/tours that you can take on the Island depending on what interests you i.e. boat trips down to the south to see the Pitons, drive in volcano where you can wallow in the mud baths and hot sulphur springs; visit the botanical gardens and a beautiful waterfall; spend a day at sea sport fishing or whale & dolphin watching; zip line through the treetops of the rainforest or take an aerial tram to enjoy the flora and fauna ; the Jaquot Trail affords hikers opportunities to learn about the flora and fauna of St Lucia; Bean to Bar experience at Hotel Chocolat which ends with you making a chocolate bar using estate grown cocoa; Castries Waterworks forest reserve is a favoured environment for birdwatchers; day trip to Martinique (90 min journey); jeep safari or island buggy.

For the more adventurous you could climb Mount Gimie which is the tallest mountain on the island, the peak reaches 3117ft, or the view from the Gros Piton is apparently amazing.

For info, every year at the end of April/beginning of May there is a Music & Arts Festival held on the island featuring some very talented local artists.
