My husband and I explored Costa Rica in September and stayed several days at Del's. We couldn't wait to share it with friends and started planning our return trip as soon as we arrived home.
September weather is cool and rainy and so we did alot of exploring by car. When we returned in sunny January, we were anxious to hit all of the local beaches, find new waterfalls, try one of the nearby ziplines, and eat out as often as possible.
But the house sucked us in ! The tranquility. The VIEW ! Nothing else HAD to get done. We did eventually make it out to a few beaches and restaurants, but relaxing by the pool, rain or shine, was the best part of the trip. The beds are very comfortable and we awoke every morning to the sounds of toucans and parrots. I would sit up in bed and look down the mountain, scanning the water below for whales. And then we would have amazing coffee.
We travel often and I can honestly say this is the most well equipped kitchen of any house we have rented. No “rental grade” appliances here. The dishes, glasses, flatware, and knives are all good quality. There is a great market at the bottom of the hill, a fresh seafood vendor nearby, and a huge kitchen to prepare meals to eat outside. Dining with a view at its finest. There is even an emergency selection of wine available for purchase, in case you run out ;)
Typical of central America, many roads are unpaved so get the good 4WD vehicle and you can go anywhere. The power does go out briefly from time to time throughout the country, so we always bring headlamps and solar lanterns, but there is a large stash of candles here if you do need them. The water from the tap is clear, the pressure is good, and the bugs are very minimal; All things we greatly appreciated !
Drive up the hill to Del’s. Enjoy the view, the solitude, the wildlife, the relief from the daytime heat below, and the cool nighttime temperatures. Enjoy sleeping with the windows wide open and showering with the most amazing view. This house IS Pura Vida at its best.
Thanks for staying at Del Congos Exotica. It was our pleasure to have you stay for a second time.
Beautiful view...4x4 only
Confortable, well equipped and great view of the Whale's tale of Bahia Ballena!!
Both and Alex were very helpful and friendly.
We went on the last days of the dry season, and climbed the mountain in a 4x4 with ease (we tried with a 4x2 and was imposible, so yes is a 4x4 only climb). On rainy season it might get tricky because of the mud.
Overall we had a quiet and pleasant stay. Highly recommend the house
Thank you for choosing Del Congos Exotica for your Easter weekend getaway. The road is all gravel and has never been a problem anytime of the year since it is maintained by our International Road Association for the 40+ homes in the development. Many people prefer to rent our home for 4 reasons:
1. The privacy of 13 1/2 acres ( other rental homes have 1 acre and close neighbors)
2. The abundance of wildlife, many toucan , cusingas, which you can find much more of due to our unique location in PRIMARY Jungle.
3. Unique 50 mile Ocean Shoreline View
4. Trained On-site staff on grounds in separate house 24/7 for any concerns and questions.
ISince you live and work in Costa Rica and will have more opportunity to return. I was happy to hear that you highly recommend our home. We look forward to your return.
Loved Uvita. Wish I Could Stay Forever.
First of all, Estefany and Alex, the property managers living on site, are wonderful hosts. They made our stay so comfortable and were helpful in so many ways. Their English is very good and you do not need to know much Spanish to communicate with them. If you are like me, I wanted to practice using Spanish and they were more than happy to spend time chatting with me in Spanish. They taught me the Tico slang that you need but won’t find on Rosetta Stone. They cooked us a traditional Tico dinner with mahi mahi, fried plantains, starfruit rice, and fresh squeezed tropical juice. This is a must if you stay here. We certainly could not have asked for better hosts.
Next, the road to the property. I read all the reviews on this property and some people complained about the road up to the house. The road is steep and a little bumpy but C’MON!! The scenery along this road is beautiful. Rent a strong 4x4 vehicle and enjoy it. If a steep bumpy road is going to bother you, you are vacationing in the wrong country. Disregard those parts of other reviews, people that choose to focus on trivial things like that are really reaching for things to complain about.
Next, the property/house. The amazingness of the back porch view cannot be captured in photos. I sat out there every morning with my coffee listening to the jungle sounds and watching the wildlife. We even had a very large iguana swimming in the pool one morning. You will see toucans, coati, parrots, iguanas, monkeys, etc. The house itself is perfect. It’s a simple clean layout, two big master bed/bath with balconies upstairs and a spacious dine-in kitchen down stairs. The views from the bedrooms make you want to lay in bed all morning.
Lastly, the town of Uvita. It has everything you would ever want in a small beach town (grocery stores, banks, many restaurants, and gorgeous beaches). There are 2 new restaurants on the dirt road up to the house that are excellent. Osa Thyme and Mosaic Wine Bar. Check them out on Facebook.
Thank you Del, we will be back. Next time we will brings friends and rent both houses on the property.
Thank you for staying at Del Congos Exotica!
Very few houses have onsite caretakers and we have worked diligently with Alex and Estephany for 5 years to make them the perfect couple. Friendly, yet still respectful of our clients desires for privacy. Many of our clients have had our chef prepare them a typical Costa Rican meal and many have said it was the best meal in Costa Rica . The experience of 13 1/2 acres of primary jungle coupled with a 50 mile ocean shoreline view makes for a once-in-a-lifetime experience. We hope you return soon!
I don’t know where to start. Alex and Stephanie were amazing and so accommodating. The house is immaculate and has everything you need. The views were sweeping and from the upstairs bedroom it felt like you were sleeping on top of the world. For those who said the road was bad, it wasn’t if you’ve ever driven up a hill before. Just make sure you have 4wd as you should whenever visiting Costa Rica. Del and his wife gave so many amazing recommendations that I cannot thank them enough. This was truly an experience we won’t forget and will definitely rent from Del for our next visit!!!
Ryan and Meghan,
Thank you for staying at my luxury rental house “Del Congos Exotica “.
It was my pleasure to share my dream home in paradise with you.
We hope that you return soon since 1 week is not enough time to see everything.
Amazing place & unforgettable
What a place. It is awesome staying right in the jungle. We were able to experience tucans, monkeys, butterflies and so much more amazing wildlife right from the pool.
Beautiful house with great views. The caretaker's, Alex & Estephany, we're so welcoming & helpful.
Definitely recommend renting Del's car. The drive up the mountain was a piece of cake with his vehicle, but it wouldn't be possible without a good 4wd vehicle.
Uvita was a great town with so many exciting things to do.
We went during July, which is during a lighter period of the rainy season. The weather was so perfect, I would almost prefer it. The mornings were beautiful, then some days it lightly rained in the late afternoon and cleared up at night. The temp was not too hot, & mosquitos were non existent.
I would highly recommend to anyone and wish we could have stayed longer.
Beautiful spot, very comfortable
The house was perfect for our family of four. Very comfortable, beautiful view, and the house had everything we needed. Alex and Stephanie were lovely, and made us feel well taken care of. Del sent us lots of information before we came, so we knew what to expect. The one challenge was the road to the house. Very steep, hairpin turns, made of loose rocks and dirt. We got pretty good at navigating it but tried to get home before dark to avoid driving it then. Overall we loved our trip!
Thank you for staying at Del Congos Exotica. Only the main roads are paved in Costa Rica and our house has an exceptional view because of the position on the mountain. we are glad that you enjoyed your stay and that Alex and Estephany took care of all your needs . We hope that you can join us again and remember we also have the second house if you'd like to bring more family .
