About Janet Woo

We have been travelling to the Windham area for 25 years. We live in Westchester County,NY and it is just a 2 hour drive for us to get here. We started going up to Windham when my son was young and wanted to learn to ski. Then came my daughter who wanted to follow in her brother's footsteps. Now that our kids are grown up and on their own, we hope to share our home with other families that want to experience what Windham has to offer from a great location that is close to everything.

Janet Woo purchased this townhome in 1994

Why Janet Woo chose Windham

Eventually, we got tired of renting hotel rooms every weekend we went to ski, and as the kids got older there was so much more 'equipment' we had to pack, so we decided to buy a home so we could leave all our ski equipment and their toys in but we didn't want to have to drive to the mountain since the lines to the parking lot were getting longer as more people would go to the mountain. We found this place and it was the perfect location. we could walk to the mountain, the kids had a place to play and we could relax by a fire. When the spring came we realized how much more it was than just a ski place, the Windham area has so much to offer year-round. the kids would spend holidays and the summers up here too. We would have family and friends come up and enjoy the area as well.

This place was a second home to us. Windham Mountain Village was a community where people cared for their neighbors and it was a safe environment for our kids to be in. The property was well-managed and grounds taken care of by someone full-time. Snow was always shoveled and the landscaping was beautiful. The town was a 5 minute drive away and has a library, deli, restaurants, movie theatre, antique shops and events going on all the time.

It is particularly beautiful during fall foliage season when the leaves start turning color.

What makes this townhome unique

This unit is at the edge of the property so it is quiet and has a backyard with some privacy. There is a clubhouse for owners to use for parties and kids can go play there. There is a ping pong table, cable tv , games, books and exercise equipment there. There is a slope by the clubhouse that kids can go sledding when there's enough snow. they also have outdoor tennis courts for use in nice weather..

Great place, all conveniences

  • 5 of 5

Our family of 5 stayed very comfortably in this home. The owner had the second bedroom set up for our three kids to hop into bed upon our arrival. The living area is comfortable and inviting, kitchen has everything. The owner has thought of everything (hairdryers, notes on how to start fire in fireplace, extra blankets, towels, etc. -- all very well organized). Convenient to slopes, lovely view out the back windows / glass doors.

Owner's Response: Glad that we were able to accomodate your family, we appreciate how neat and tidy you kept the unit. We do try and anticipate what one would need and provide it in the unit. And I am glad that the mountain was close enough that you could walk to the mountain to bring lunch to your kids. We hope to see you back in the future.

Winter brings downhill skiing and snowboarding, snow tubing, cross-country skiing, snowmobiling, snowshoeing, and ice-skating. When the snow melts, the trout rise to the bait and the fairways open. Tennis courts resound once again with the sound of rackets hitting balls, and soon CD Lane Park in Maplecrest opens for lake swimming and picnicking. Swimming holes along the Batavia Kill beckon, and mountain bikes careen down ski trails or glide past on country lanes. Wood smoke drifts from campsites while fresh-caught fish fry on the fire. In the fall sportsmen take to the fields and woods in search of game birds, deer, and black beer.

And always, in any season, there are the hiking trails of Windham High Peak and the Blackhead Range where you can walk in the footsteps of Thomas Cole and John Burroughs in the 'forever wild' forest preserve of the Catskill State Park.

Town of Windham, a diverse resort and rural community in a mountain valley surrounded by the high peaks of the northern Catskill Mountains-a 'land in the sky' where family farms coexist side-by-side with a growing artist community, vacationers, urban professionals working from home offices, artisans and contractors, and one of New York State's premier ski resorts.

A four-season vacation destination, the Town of Windham offers first-class winter sports facilities, legendary trout-fishing, cool summer fun 2000 feet above the heat and humidity of the East Coast, spectacular fall foliage, and forests filled with deer, black bear, and game birds.

But the Town of Windham is so much more than just a resort community. It is where people live who want to live well. It is where parents raise families in a crime-free, natural environment with clean air, clean water, and surrounded by four seasons of beauty, each with its own gift. Some commute to work in the nearby cities of Albany and Kingston -some even commute to New York City. Thanks to modern communication technology, others work from home and communicate with the world while they watch deer graze outside their home-office window. Still others carry on their family's tradition farming ancestral land, hosting travelers from across the globe, or carrying on a proud, time-honored trade. All have found their own piece of the 'land in the sky' to call home.
