About Susan Colwell

Well, here's a little about me. . . .I'm married to the best guy on the planet-Cerphe (pronounced Surf) and we have a feline child-Poncey. I'm a real estate investor and with my fantastic partners, I'm buying and renovating amazing properties in Baltimore. I also host a travel show on Music Planet Radio called TravelGal. (Please check it out!) :-)

I love to stay in Home Away and VRBO properties when I travel and I take great care in making our properties cozy, charming and lovely to be in. I also try to think of everything I'd want to make my stay enjoyable and then I include it for our guests!

Susan Colwell purchased this house in 2014

Why Susan Colwell chose Baltimore

In 2013, two very dear friends of mine and I fell in love with an enchanting row house in Baltimore's Little Italy. I daydreamed about it, walked around the neighborhood and discovered wonderful Italian restaurants, an amazing bakery, the cutest wine bar ever, the waterfront promenade and on and on! Each time I turned a corner there was more. Then!!!! Just when I thought it couldn't get any better--I discovered a Starbucks, Whole Foods, movie theater and incredible shopping along the Inner Harbor only two blocks away!

So my dear friends and I bought that cutie-pie house and turned it into an elegant corporate and family retreat /super-cool pied a terre (Little Italy Charmer). A year later, this home came on the market and we knew we had to have it, too--So Little Italy Charmer, Too! was born.

This is such a WONDERFUL area of Baltimore. It's like stepping back in time. The neighborhood is charming, safe and lovely— chock full of wonderful Italian restaurants, even a cozy little wine bar and popular bakery. There are tons of festivals and events in this neighborhood and in the summer time, they even play an outdoor movie (Friday nights) and all the neighbors bring their lawn chairs. It's just magical.

What makes this house unique

Like Little Italy Charmer-two doors down--this property was built in 1850 and is so charming and cozy that it makes you want to burrow in, read a book or watch movies and unwind. But with all the shopping, dining and the Inner Harbor only steps away, the city draws you out. I also paid close attention to the comfort of the beds and house amenities like coffee, tea, sugar, hand soap, etc. All the little extras that make a home away from home feel functional and homey. I hope you enjoy what we've done!

Wonderful property in Little Italy

  • 5 of 5

Very spacious and well-appointed property. Amy was always available and always helpful. This is a great alternative to hotel rooms if you have a meeting at the Convention Center.

Even better than the pictures!

  • 5 of 5

What an amazing trip. We just returned from a Bachelorette party - and couldn't speak more highly of the home, the location, the town and the entire experience. The home was lovely with everything an more that you would need! The minute we walked in we all felt right at home. The only thing we wished for was to stay for a couple more days to enjoy all the house had to offer! One tip to upcoming guests --- look for the parking garage called "Little Italy Parking". As you are heading down Eastern Ave with the house on your right - at the next intersection make a left. The parking garage is just a block or so up the road. It was only $4.00 a day!

The ease of getting into the property was great, prior to our arrival we had a couple questions and the owner was very responsive. I just don't have enough good to say about the home. We are already planning when we can make our next trip! The proximity to everything - both Fells Point and the Harbor couldn't have been better. I could go on and on --- but will just tell you you will not be disappointed if you choose this home!

Nice condo in great location

  • 3 of 5

We loved the condo and it was close to a lot of bmore attractions. With that said, there was an issue with the heating system. The main floor was freezing and the 2nd and 3rd floor were extremely hot. The owner was great and offered to move us to another location.

Amazing location and very spacious

  • 5 of 5

Our family loved staying here. There is no better location if you want to walk to the inner harbor and the fantastic restaurants in little Italy. (As an aside, we found a local Italian bakery called Piedigrotta. Went every day for coffee and gelato, plus three real meals during our stay.)

The layout is great for families with kids as there are many beds.

We had one issue with allergies. Be aware that highly sensitive folks might notice some animal (cat?) dander. Since pets are not allowed, this is likely from previous owners. The property manager Amy was very nice and tried earnestly to help. Aside from a fairly disruptive carpet cleaning mid-stay, there's not much one can do to correct this, short of replacing carpets.

All in all, it worked well for our situation and we would stay again.

Perfect for a stay at Johns Hopkins

  • 4 of 5

Everything was perfect for our stay. Location was excellent especially if you love Italian food as we do. The accommodations were as described. If you will be there during a winter storm as we were you should be prepared to dress in layers as the first floor does stay rather cool compared to the second and third floor. Fortunately there is a cozy electric fireplace to help warm up the living room. We will definitely consider a repeat stay for our next trip to Johns Hopkins Hospital. I should also add that the staff was very accommodating and easy to reach. Thank you for your hospitality!

Wonderful location, ample space

  • 5 of 5

This was our second stay at this rental. Again, we found the space ample for our needs (6 adults). We did very little cooking, but found adequate serve ware. Beds were comfortable. Last year's heating problems had been adequately fixed. The location is terrific for downtown, Harbor East, Fells Point, Little Italy and convention center/stadium access. Some guests found the shower gel to be a bit harsh for sensitive skin, and the walls between us and the couple shouting next door a little thin, but the majority of us heard nothing. We will hopefully be back next year!

We are only 2 blocks from the Inner Harbor--Presidents Street side. To reach the inner harbor, simply head west toward President’s St. cross President’s St. and walk along the waterfront promenade. This is also a prettier walk to the Baltimore Convention Center (Google maps will take you along congested major roads.)

We are also 4 blocks to the harbor on the other side-called the Promenade side. 2 blocks to shopping at the Inner Harbor, waterfront promenade, Power Plant, Phillips Seafood, Baltimore Water Taxi, Starbucks, Whole Foods, CVS and tons of dining choices, cute bars, bakeries & more! 15 minute walk past great bars, restaurants and attractions to the Baltimore Convention Center.
