I live in Maine but I am able to enjoy 3-4 months of each year at my special Inlet Cove cottage.
The Owner purchased this cottage in 1995
I love to sit on the sunporch (in any sort of weather!) and look at the views, which are always changing.
We've stayed at this house several times and it gets better and better! Since our last visit, there is a brand new kitchen and hardwood floors. We enjoyed being active every day- walking on the beach, kayaking, biking along the paths and beach, and swimming in the ocean and pool. At the end of the day, we relaxed with wine on the deck, watching the sunset over the Kiawah River. Wildlife abounds- pelicans, egrets, crabs, dolphins. We'll definitely be back!
This is our third time staying here. It gets better each time. My wife and I were joined by my 24 year old son and my 91 year old mother. There were ample opportunities for all of us to be active, or just to relax. The home has been redone since our last trip two years ago, highlighted by new hardwood floors. The weather was mixed with temperatures down in the mid-40's in the evening and in the high 50's to mid-60's during the day. The home's most stunning feature is the close overlook of the Kiawah River, a tidal river (though we saw no dolphins this time). The movement of the river is responsive to the tides, and beyond the river is a large marsh area for ample bird viewing. There is a sitting area at the back of the house overlooking the river with comfortable chairs, around which we gathered each evening for wine, cheese and crackers, and the nightly experience of sunset over the river.
This is a gated community, and most houses are empty during the winter. We arrived to find that our gate code did not work. We had a key code to get into the house (lock box like on homes for sale). We walked to the house (5 minutes), got into the house, got the phone number for the management company and called. At the same time, we called Jan (the owner) in Maine. Impressively, within ten minutes, both Jan and the management company had returned our call, given us a corrected code because the gate was refusing to accept the new code, and we were on our way. As a backup, there is a security gate for the remainder of the island staffed 24 hours, and they were helpful as well.
There is a large market surrounded by a variety of shops a mere 5 minutes away. We spent one day in Charleston, about 50 minutes away. The airport is about an hour away, but easy to get to the island.
We looked around in the West Cove area of the island, and it was our opinion that this home had the best view of the river and the best chance of great sunsets.
We will keep coming back.
This house exceeded our expectations on every level! the views were breathtaking, house was very clean and immaculate, nice quiet neighborhood and Ms. Jan was a pleasure to work with. We will defiinetly be back!
We so enjoyed our week at this charming beach house on Kiawah Island! The panoramic river view from the sunroom, bedrooms and deck make this house special! We enjoyed grilling with the large gas grill on the deck. We had a great view of of the tidal river and it's wildlife, including blue heron, white egrets, seagulls, pelicans, and occasionally dolphins! It's an short walk to the public beach run by the park service, and a short drive to West Beach that's part of the resort. Kiawah Island is a destination in it's own right, with world class golf courses and fabulous beaches. And it's not far from the attractions of Charleston! It was great to be able to have our dog with us at the house and on the beach! We plan to return.
We have stayed at many places around Kiawah over the past 10 years, but this is our favorite. Jan is very easy to work with, the house is beautiful, the location is excellent. It feels like my home away from home, even though I only spend one week per year there.
For years now, my wife and I have rented this cottage off season for two months. We think it has the best view on the island made better by the glassed-in seating area that was previously a screened porch. Only a couple of the Inlet Cove properties on the river have this feature.
The location of Inlet Cove is ideal for quick access to shopping and for getting to Charleston. Properties to the east can add a lot of travel time.
The owner is hands on and takes good care of the property. She has been a delight to deal with.
