On our visit to University of Virginia for our daughter's graduation, we stayed in this quiet getaway. There was 3 generations under one roof. We were close enough to grounds to be convenient, but far enough out of town to feel as though we were in the country. The only glitch was that the code for the wifi did not work. We tried to call the contact but did not get an answer. It was probably for the best since that made our daughters stay off their phones.
My husband and 2 teenagers recently stayed here and if I am being honest.. I have to say this house (especially on the outside!) is creepy. The leaves have started to fall and the 'driveway' was almost impossible to follow. The exterior of the house appears dingy. I think this is due to the wood boards not getting a lot of sunlight.. but still, it doesn't make a great "first impression". The good news is the interior is spotless. 2 of the 3 beds are very close to the floor and if you're older.. getting in and out of bed would be difficult. Not much décor in the bedrooms either (no TV's or mirrors) and our comforter didn't fit the bed (too small). This made for quite a tug a war at night. We ran out of toilet paper in the master bath.. there was only a half a roll to begin with and no spare in the cabinets. There is a nice fire place but no instructions on how to light the pilot light but luckily my husband is handy with these things and got the fire going... after many tries! There was a note left by the people before us wishing there had been instruction for the fire place as well. There's a really nice porch on the backside with a view of the woods but only 2 'folding' chairs to sit in. Some deck furniture would really be nice addition. No TV's in bedrooms and wall are thin.. we heard every step our children upstairs. My son's bed (upstairs- very low to floor) was like a brick. And lastly.. the WIFI never worked. Luckily we weren't in the house much so we didn't really need it. I am sorry to post a negative review but in fairness to the owners/managers these items should be addressed.
We stayed here prior to competing in the Wisdom Oak Winery triathlon as the race site was only about a mile away (Walnut Creek Park) and we were delighted by the home in the trees. It's close enough to town that our many trips to and from the cycle shop were not inconvenient, but it was so peaceful that we were all able to sleep well the night before our race. Zero complaints whatsoever, I would love to return again in the future and wouldn't dream of staying anywhere else. Thank you.
We enjoyed our stay very much in Melody House. It's rich music history and lovely setting among the trees makes this home very special. We had a good time sitting on the screened-in porch looking for wildlife, fixing meals in the nice kitchen and dining area, and playing games in the nice big family room.
Charlottesville (where there are several good restaurants and shopping areas) is 15 minutes away by three different beautiful, scenic routes.
The owners were very responsive when there was a problem with the AC. It was fixed by the end of the day!!
Thank you, John and Tamara, for being such wonderful hosts. We look forward to visiting Melody House again some day !
