Cozy year round lakefront cottage with gorgeous views!
average rating of 4.9333334 based on 15 reviews

Property well maintained with gorgeous flowers everywhere and easy access to lake.

Clean, cozy and well equipped with full kitchen utensils, air conditioning, washer dryer etc. Also the owner Bev was warm and delightful, helpful with getting wifi set up while simultaneously very respectful of privacy. Finally, we greatly enjoyed

use of kayaks each day! One must be prepared however to commit to thorough cleaning on last day, including laundering sheets and towels. Not a problem for us , but others may not like time constraints before leaving. We loved our stay!!

Loon Cottage Get-Away

  • 5 of 5

We wanted a peaceful retreat for two with no schedule and nothing to do but sleep, eat, read books and hike when we wanted to. We found all that and more. Gordon and Bev are great hosts and provided a gas grill, kayaks, and lovely dock for recreational fishing. The area is fantastic for hiking (easy and moderate trails) and biking, and we stocked up on all our favorite Vermont craft beers and ciders. (New favorite: Citizen Cider Northern Spy.) Definitely what we were looking for.

Peaceful sunrise lakeside cottage

  • 5 of 5

Our family of four (two boys, 5 and 7) stayed here for a week in mid August and had a wonderful time. We are from Philadelphia and our typical vacation is at the Jersey shore. Since both of our kids recently passed the swim test at the pool we wanted to try a lake vacation.

I have to start by saying that the water just outside of our house was, in our opinion, not very suitable for swimming as there is a lot of tall grasses in the water. However there is a really nice sandy beach (Thayers Beach) a couple miles down the road with free parking and two others if you want to drive a bit further however those seem more popular with college kids and allow dogs. Our bay though is very peaceful and quiet with amazing sunrises and I could take the boys out on the private dock and fish. After getting a 3 day fishing license at the Ace hardware up the road, we easily caught 7 perch and 7 sunfish. Incredible for their first fishing adventure. Gordon, our host lent us the rods and gear and even went out of his way and picked us up two floaters which helped us not get our lines tangled in the grass. What is also nice is that on our private sandy beach there is a fire pit and with the provided logs and starter log, we had two lakeside bonfires and made s'mores both nights.

The cottage itself is small but comfortable. The boys had their own room with two single beds and in the master bedroom there is a double bed, which takes some getting used to if you are used to a king, but the room is lovely with wrap around lake views. It is a fully stocked kitchen, minus a dishwasher, a Weber gas grill and indoor and outdoor dining areas. It has a lot of charm and the hosts live right next door if you need help or have any questions. They were more than accommodating.

The location is on a very quiet and residential bay. Two miles from a good sandy swimming spot and entry point to the 14 mile Island Bike Trail which is quite scenic and includes a two mile causeway that literally crosses the lake. That is not to be missed if you like biking. The town of Burlington is a ten minute drive and is an interesting place to walk around and we made a couple day trips to the Shelburne Museum and the Shelburne Farm Estate both of which the kids loved. We also drove to nearby Ben and Jerry and Cabot factories.

All in all, we had a spectacular time, and made memories that will last a lifetime. The cottage is lovely and the hosts are warm and inviting. We highly recommend.

"Perfect" sums up everything about this cottage. It is located close to everything you want to do and any necessities you may need while still being in a quiet setting. However, you may not need much since the cottage is equipped with all the conveniences of home. The view is lovely; you never tire of it. Beverly and Gordon are wonderful hosts who are close by, but not intrusive. We will definitely return. Only when we do, it will be for a longer period of time.

Kid -friendly, cozy, and with beautiful sunrises beaming into the window-full adult bedroom. It had everything we needed. Our 3 yr old wanted to stay for "50 more nights."
