Condo, 1 Bedroom + Convertible bed(s), 1 Bath, (Sleeps 2-4)

Whether you take the 'Beeline' (State Route 87) from Sky Harbor -- a 30-minute trip -- or travel by vehicle from a distant state, when you first reach Fountain Hills and glimpse the ring of sun-dappled mountains surrounding the aptly named city -- you realize this town is truly special. **Please read NOTE in rate section**

Few places within an easy commute of Scottsdale/Phoenix enable you to escape their maddening traffic without sacrificing conveniences. At Sunshine & Serene Lakeside Resort Casita in Fountain Hills stress-free shopping, dining, banking and proximity to state-of-the-art medical facilities like the Mayo Clinic are all wrapped in Southwest beauty you'll enjoy whether vacationing or traveling for work.

This magical feeling continues when you walk through the door of the completely remodeled second-floor Southwest Pizzazz at Lakeside Resort Casitas. A sense of Wild West lore permeates this warmly appointed retreat, where natural beauty and the serenity of the sunny Southwest meet in the form of engaging cowboy and Native American artwork, themed furniture, tile floors, and new granite countertops. Modern amenities include secure WiFi so you can forget hunting for an open access WiFi Hotspot or trekking to the library to check your email and a new 40-inch HD Samsung LED in the living room (on swivel stand for optimum viewing regardless of where you’re sitting) and leather double-reclining sofa. A plasma HD TV is in the bedroom.

Step outside onto your very spacious, private patio where spectacular views of the Mazatzal and Red Mountain or the desert garden complete with cacti in the quiet courtyard below can be enjoyed from the bistro table or comfortable swivel, rocking lawn chairs. Watch carefully. You may spy a cactus wren, hawk, or meandering family of javelinas. And the patio’s physical orientation in the condo complex makes it ideally situated for optimum sunshine enjoyment.

Don't you deserve some time to finally relax!

Half of the 20-ft long patio is covered, so you can escape the sun if you desire or stretch out on one of the two chaise lounges provided. Watch the sun rise each morning beside enchanting Four Peaks Mountain, letting its rays warm you up while you sip your morning cup of Joe. Later watch the sun set as you relax in the afternoon with a cool glass of wine or cold beer. Imagine you can soak in the sunshine or finally read the talked about best sellers without ever having to leave your Southwest retreat. Or if your favorite sporting event is on TV, enjoy watching it on the rocker-recliner AND still enjoy mountain views out the window! However, there are plenty of attractions to lure you outside, from numerous golf courses, parks for desert hikes and highways with great bike lanes.

And if you need some medical attention, Fountain Hills has many fine medical facilities in addition to being an easy 15-20-minute commute to the world-famous Mayo Clinic in Scottsdale.

The Lakeside Resort Casitas are well-known for their meticulous upkeep, well-maintained desert landscaping and huge salt-water heated pool, complete with hot tub, both located to the Casitas Clubhouse -- all a few steps from Southwest Pizzazz. From January through March, the clubhouse plays host to various activities, regular dinner socials as well as morning coffee and donuts -- so it's a good thing that the pool is next door!

Those aren't the only amenities of staying at Southwest Pizzaz

The world famous fountain in the 28-acre manmade lake in Fountain Park are a mere 300 yards away. Following the gently curving outline of the lake is a path, measuring 1.25 miles, for those who enjoy a leisurely or energetic stroll. Additionally, hikers seeking a little more adventure can walk a few steps from the park to the Overlook Trail. The 1.17 mile hike through the desert rewards the adventurous with a spectacular view of the lake and its iconic fountain that sprays 560-feet into the air for 15 minutes every hour during the day and into early evening. Walking stick provided! Guided hikes of McDowell Mt. are also offered on a regular basis.

Take time to explore Fountain Hills -- its large public art collection which dots various locations throughout the city with an eclectic, engaging collection of sculpture -- and the River of Time Museum -- to name a few. In February, the city hosts the annual FOUNTAIN HILLS GREAT FAIR. The three-day juried art fair features nearly 480 artists and artisans from across the U.S. and around the globe, food booths, beer garden, breakfast, lunch and rest stops and live musical entertainment that attracts 200,000-plus visitors. Riders from the genuine Hashknife Pony Express can also gallop through Fountain Hills.

Fountain Hills and the Fort McDowell Yavapai Nation, which also call it home, feature one of the highest concentrations of world-class golf in the state of Arizona.

Five public 18-hole courses and one private country club – all possessing amazing vistas – provide exciting golfing. The city also is home to the Yavapai Nation’s Fort McDowell Casino and casino lovers will find many spots to place a bet in the Scottsdale and Phoenix area, which provides numerous attractions from shopping at the famous Scottsdale Fashion district to car events.

Car buffs won’t want to miss the Barrett-Jackson Classic Car Auction at Westworld; racing fans will need to visit NASCAR (Phoenix International Raceway). Golfers can visit the TPC Scottsdale, home to the PGA Tour and Phoenix Open, which is a major festive event.

Families won’t want to miss the Phoenix Zoo or Rawhide Western Town and Steakhouse, a replica of an authentic frontier town that is celebrating 40 years of providing quality 1880s style family entertainment. It is Arizona's largest western-themed attraction and recently relocated from Scottsdale to Wild Horse Pass on the Gila River Indian Community. Then, point your vehicle north and journey to see the blazing red rocks of Sedona or the vast expanse of the Grand Canyon.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Good morning Fran and Rosemary;

We had a wonderful month. My sister, Joan, made great use of your deck -- I think it is the best in the complex for sun. I prefer some shade, so while she lay on the sunbed, I was under cover, but still enjoying the heat. Thank you for leaving TV instructions, they were very clear and easy to follow.

Best wishes,

Very good place to stay, terrific location

  • 4 of 5

We liked the location the most, especially with our family activities being in Rio Verde. Wonderful location. I used the pool and Hot tub which was terrific.

Everything in the unit worked and we had everything we needed.

We like more space so we feel like less furniture would be better.

Overall great experience.

Comfortable Casita

  • 5 of 5

This casita was our AZ home for two months. It was equipped with everything we needed to make our stay pleasant. We appreciated the comfortable bed (a top priority for us), and top notch furniture which was also very comfortable. The location was perfect, close to the lake, and the business district was within walking distance. We love the large balcony and the great view. Lakeside Resort is a quiet well maintained area. The owners were very accommodating, and our suggestions were well received. We would recommend this unit to our friends, and will be returning for two months in 2018.

Owner's Response: Bless your hearts Mark and Diane! We really appreciate such a wonderful review. It makes us so happy to know you enjoyed the very features that make our Arizona home as special to us as they are to you. And we were relieved to hear that the upgrades planned, but due to extenuating circumstances not able to be completed in fall 2016, are the very ones you kindly suggested. As you know from dealing with us, we do our absolute best to make our guests’ stay as pleasant as possible. To learn we’ve succeeded enough for you to return in 2018 -- makes us really grateful. We’ll look forward to 2018. Enjoy the rest of the year. Best wishes, Fran and Rosemary

Misleading and very crowded

  • 2 of 5

The view from the deck was nice, and the owners were responsive to our requests.

But, the pictures on VRBO website are misleading as they didn't portray the excessive amount of furniture in the casita. Additionally, there were too many" things "like: knickknacks, dishes, fake plants, and clothing that belonged to the owners in the condo, which resulted in lack of storage, especially clothing storage, for the renters!

Owner's Response: Thank you for taking the time to share your thoughts about your stay. It's difficult to know how to respond. Some of the very issues -- "knickknacks, dishes, fake plants" -- characterized as negatives have been praised by prior guests, who selected Southwest Pizzazz, as the name implies, due to its Southwest ambience. Our online description notes the two bathrobes are a courtesy for guests' use at pool/spa and are the only "clothing" items.Your frustration perhaps came from the locked bedroom armoire, on which rests the HDTV. Ironically, it was bought solely for our clothing to empty the closet for guests. They don't come in casita unit. A dresser topped with the second HDTV in the living room, two three-drawer nightstands provide extra clothing storage. How does removing "knickknacks" from the fireplace mantel, sofa table, or the"fake" centerpiece (depicted in online photos) from the dining room table create additional clothing storage space? Quality dishes and cookware we consider an asset. As foodies we love to cook and invite friends over, setting a nice table is part of that -- but maybe we can part with a baking dish! As for "misleading" -- this did not occur to us. You see the double reclining loveseat next to the Southwest design sofa bed. But yes, the matching chair depicted was relocated to accommodate it. Having extra comfortable seating to converse with the many friends we and other guests make at the popular Lakeside Resort Casitas next to Fountain Park, we think an asset. There's a story connected to the loveseat! One of our first renters six years ago broke her arm days before arrival and asked and received permission to buy a recliner so she could sleep pain-free. They said promised to remove at departure. We agreed. Guests' comfort is a priority. To see it we said leave the recliner. I discovered -- hey a recliner is really nice. I have MS. Putting my legs up helps. However, Rosemary said, "that ugly recliner has to go!" secretly, planning to surprise me with a leather one but opting for a small double reclining loveseat that wasn't much larger instead. What joy to kickback in that comfy recliner and watch TV or the sun light up Goldfield Mountains from the window -- seen also from the patio as you noted. So dear prior guests and future guests -- it is our heartfelt wish that you enjoy your stay as much as we cherish our time at our casita each year. We do our utmost to achieve that and as noted, respond quickly to our guests. Thank you.

Sun/Golf/Pool/Relaxation

  • 5 of 5

Lakeside Casitas is a great place to relax and enjoy the Arizona sun. Fountain Hills is close to golf and a short drive to Scottsdale. Fran and Rosemary were very accommodating. Their unit is 60 seconds from the pool and spa. Will return.

Very Relaxing Stay

  • 5 of 5

We spent a few weeks enjoying ourselves at this Lakeside Casita and truly hated to leave to the cold northwest. Rosemary and Fran were truly excellent to work with and were very accommodating providing a collage of tips regarding many favoured restaurants and local sightseeing in the Fountain Hills area. As noted we attended during the Christmas season when the temperatures are routinely a little cooler but sitting with our coffees on the sun filled veranda made up for it and was absolutely amazing each and every morning. We would definitely recommend this Casita to others and will once again returning ourselves in the future....

Southwest Bliss

  • 5 of 5

My wife and I recently spent a month at this Casita. The pictures do not do this unit justice. We felt at home as soon as we came through the front door. The Veranda was so relaxing, I almost forgot my tee time. The pool was right across from our unit and as always the grounds in the area were emaculate. We have stayed in several units at lake Side and by far this was our favorite and will stay here again. The owners were absolutly fantastic to work with. If you need a south west get awaythis is the plce to visit.
