Breckenridge Cabin Rental Photos and Description

Cabin, 3 Bedrooms, 3 Baths, (Sleeps 8 in beds)

My father built this spacious custom home 40 years ago (when spiral staircases and shag carpet were all the rage!) with the intention of it being the heart of many extended family vacations.....and it has been! This completely furnished and well-equipped cabin will sleep 8 comfortably in beds. There is a roll-away bed as well as a deluxe queen-sized air bed. Built as a self-contained retreat for families, the large rec room in the basement boasts a pool table, ping pong table card table and darts available. We still have the shag carpet, but new furniture, appliances and other important ammenities.

Our home is the best of both worlds: being close enough to town (2 miles) to enjoy all the shopping and culinary options, while still being far enough away to enjoy the luxury of a huge backyard and the view of nature and wildlife! We are on a well maintained and traveled road which is less than a mile from convenient parking and a free ski shuttle bus.

Set on the side of the mountain, the large deck looks out on our forested acreage complete with a beaver dam and views of Peak 7. In the summer the yard boasts abundant wildflowers and a great view of the beavers working in our pond! Last winter a family of Moose were spotted right outside the back door.

New linens, goose down comforters and pillows on all beds make for a restful night's sleep before a busy day exploring beautiful downtown Breckenridge or skiing the summit! (The master bedroom has a queen size Select Comfort mattress.) Just minutes from world-class gondolas, the mountain awaits your arrival!

About Alexis Hopkins

I am a college professor, my husband designs amusement park rides. This cabin was built by my father and remains my very favorite place in the world!

We have no children, but show Belgian Sheepdogs and Havanese. We love to travel but Breckenridge is our favorite place to be. It is a magical place where we both feel very much at home!

Alexis Hopkins purchased this cabin in 1975

Why Alexis Hopkins chose Breckenridge Area

We used to live in Western Kansas and we found ourselves vacationing in the Rocky Mountains every chance we got. We kept coming back to Breckenridge and decided to try to find a lot and build a home. As luck would have it some very good friends of ours had just built a home and told us the lot next door was for sale. We bought it and began building. Literally.....WE....began building. My dad was a builder....a really GOOD one.... and our family built this home with our own hands. It's not the fanciest home on the mountain, but I bet it is the best built!

What makes this cabin unique

We have quite a bit of land behind our home as the lot is pie shaped with the small point facing the road. In the summer you can hike around the yard and visit the beaver pond....one of my favorite things to do. Or, you can just sit on the deck and wait patiently to see moose, bear, deer, fox, or the illusive beavers.

Breck Review

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I, along with another couple, spent the Thanksgiving holiday in this cozy and inviting getaway. Plenty of closet space and everything was clean and neat. While the view off the back deck exposed mountainous terrain and wildlife, the short drive to the slopes, restaurants and quaint shops was only minutes away. We look forward to staying here for a summer vacation in the future.

The owners of this cabin make you feel just like family. We couldn't have enjoyed our stay more. Six days of total relaxation! Breckenridge is a beautiful place to stay. The view from the living room and back deck was breathtaking! Surrounded by trees and a beautiful pond. What could be better. Wonderful place to stay!

Great Location, Home away from home!

  • 5 of 5

I really enjoyed this place! It is tucked away on a road in the woods at the foot of one of the mountains in the area with a secluded feel, but is a very short drive (<5 minutes) to downtown Breck. The road and area are quiet, despite how close they are. The roads are well kept, and although I stayed there in the warmer months I'd expect it to be very easy to access even during heavy snow and weather. Minimal inclines (you're really at the foot of the mountain here). I think location is a big part of why I'd go back to this place.

The house itself is cozy, and for the size of the place can fit quite a large bunch of people. There's a great loft area over the kitchen/living room that has a couple of beds that I think would be fun for younger or older kids (I didn't use the area, as my party was smaller). The main bedroom through the entryway had a very comfy bed. The back porch area is huge, and faces the woods. I really enjoyed the view in the morning drinking coffee. You will likely see wildlife off the back porch area! A few moose would hang around in view especially in the mornings, and I saw a bear in the area too.

Overall, I really enjoyed the place, and highly recommend it on location and coziness!

2 Family Ski Trip

  • 5 of 5

Best Ever!!! The house was a joy to come home to after a long day of skiing. Everyone had a great time. Skiing during the day and pool and ping pong at night. Great time!!!

Family Getaway

  • 5 of 5

Absolutely fantastic! Very rustic home with plenty of cozy family features. Wood burning fireplace, Pool table, ping pong table, and all the necessities to cook some good old fashioned family meals. Trip to town and slopes was short and yet far enough away from the crowds. Very clean and comfortable for many people to stay without being on top of one another. Only disappointment was we didn't get to see the MOOSE! :) I bet the pond out back is great in the summer. Enjoy!

Owner's Response: We are so glad that you enjoyed your stay! We have always loved the location too; it is close enough to town to feel part of the community but far enough away that you can relax and enjoy the view. Sorry you missed seeing the Moose. They are elusive and magnificent creatures. If you make it back in the summer I am certain that you will enjoy the pond in our back yard; it has a beaver dam;-) Since I don't ski anymore summer is my favorite season in Breckenridge! Thanks again for your kind words and we look forward to sharing our home with you again soon! ~Alexis and Kelly
