Sink into this stylish retreat on the garden floor of a newly renovated Brownstone in this trendy Brooklyn enclave.
The stunning landmark apartment boasts original details such as fireplaces, floors and moldings, which combine with refined and eclectic mid century modern furniture for a boutique hotel aesthetic.
Its European owner has created a distinct style and comfort which carries throughout -- white, high-thread-count linens on brand-new posturepedic beds, as well as deluxe towels and spa-like toiletries in the bold, 1920s-designed bath suite. Just one of the apartment’s many highlights.
Steps away is the Utica subway stop which allows guest to breeze into Manhattan or travel to and from JFK in 20-30 minutes on the speedy A/C train. Alternatively, hop on the bus or subway to nearby Williamsburg, Park Slope and Fort Greene, or leave the hustle and bustle behind for the tree-lined, village feel of Stuyvescent Heights.
We stayed at Chauncey House for 5 nights for a girly getaway. It was our first time in New York and we loved the Brooklyn neighbourhood. Some great places to eat brunch nearby (recommend Saraghina and Brunswick) and the subway very close- 2 min walk away.
The flat has everything you need and the touch key pad easy to use to come and go. Lovely beautifully made beds to come back and sink into after a long day sightseeing/shopping and quality fluffy towels.
Nina and Marlen were great at communicating at each stage. The deposit was paid back within days of me coming home.
There is a house being built next door so there was some noise in the morning from the builders, but we were getting up early to make the most of the day-so would just say bring earplugs if you like a lie in and you will be fine-this shouldn't be a reason not to stay, just through would mention.
Would definitely recommend to friends and family and would stay here again. Thank you Nina and Marlen!
We were 4 people (2 adults and our two sons aged 14 and 17). who had a fantastic time in this beautiful and lovely apartment. It was so nice and clean and well appointed. The kitchen has all what is needed, and even a dish washer. We cooked our Christmas dinner and had a great evening. The area was nice and felt very safe. The A line is convenience, just 2 minutes from door. We would love to come back!
We visited Brooklyn with our two kids (ages 7 and 9) for a few days before Thanksgiving. We thought staying in an apartment would give them a better experience for their first time in New York. Nina was so sweet and responsive, and easy to work with. The apartment is in a great location -- literally a 3 minute walk to the A/C train. Neighborhood is a little more gritty than I remembered, but we still felt safe. Street parking was so easy! Often times we parked right in front of the apartment or right around the corner.
We stayed in the 3 bedroom apartment at Chauncy House, and it was more than enough space -- in fact, this apartment is HUGE by Brooklyn standards. The master is as big as our master at home! The decor is very chic with an industrial vibe -- it's beautifully decorated and feels like the furnishings have been carefully curated over time, not staged like a hotel like many rentals. Nina supplied plenty of linens and there were pantry basics when we arrived. There are a few cute coffee shops in the neighborhood and Nina gave recommendations for local restaurants, as well. Would not hesitate to stay here again!
We were very excited about this suite prior to arrival because it is exceptionally well photographed and presented on the website. It was clearly well composed with a good eye for interior design and composition.
And although the exterior entrance could use a little sprucing-up (it was a little dark and dusty when we arrived and we couldn't find the touch pad for the security lock) - we found the interior to be perfectly warm and comfortable. The suite was clean and reasonably well equipped without being fussy. And the bedroom(s) and bathroom were well appointed, (great linen and towels) - worked especially well for us as a couple with our single guest, (t.p. was a little torturous - a minor point).
The neighbourhood had plenty of character, very authentic history and natural charm. And the metro is right around the corner - a mere 20-30 minutes to Manhattan. No problems with feeling safe or disconnected. Our host made some great recommendations for restaurants etc., which we would be happy to return to on future visits!
All in all this was a great suite and we would be happy to return anytime. Our host was exceptionally gracious and helpful and the suite reflects the personal touch that makes any visit worthwhile.
A great introduction to the Bedford-Stuyvescent neighbourhood and to Brooklyn!
We thoroughly enjoyed staying in this spotlessly clean, beautifully presented apartment. Nina was very helpful throughout the whole process, from the international credit card debacle (!) to the final return of security deposit.
Easy to find on the A line from JFK, it's the basement flat of a classic brownstone. Yes, there was some building works going on next door which we weren't advised of. They started on the stroke of 7.30am which was fine for us being early risers. Not sure when it's due to finish. There's grocery stores nearby and more importantly (for an Australian), decent drinkable coffee within a 10 minute radius!!!
Beds are fantastically comfortable and there's everything you need in the bathroom and kitchen. My son was initially a bit doubtful about the air mattress having had some dodgy experiences, but said it was the best ever.
You do have to factor in up to an extra hour a day getting to and from Manhattan, and more on the weekends when the NY subway is chaotic with trackwork and line changes. Might be an idea to stay local in Brooklyn then.
I'd certainly consider staying here again on my next trip to NY!
From my first impressions getting out of the cab i was a little taken a back by the location and the fact that there was a block party just outside of the place. Also its def not comfortable for 4 people. The air mattress had a hole in it and that made it challenging obviously for the 4 th person. There is no air conditioning so good luck. Its also in a basement. Which make it kinda dark. There is always someone roaming around the from door. And lets talk about the location. Its about a 25 min cab ride over to any sort of life so we made sure that we were going to be out for the day because there aint no going back. The plus side is that the subway stop is about a block and a half away. And to boot there was a major construction scene right next door so we were woken up at 7:30 on monday and tuesday. It most definitely a tatsefully decorated place but that was all. Nothing much beyond that impressed me. I wouldnt recommend this place. I didnt feel very safe to walk back at night.
