Denver Cabin Rental Photos and Description

Impeccably maintained and updated 3 bedroom, 2 bath cabin on a 100 acres

We are not your typical rental; we are your home away from home, no need to bring anything but yourselves and your luggage.

Once you unlock the front door, you will realize this is no ordinary log cabin, the rustic appeal remains, but modern twists make it fun and inviting. Hang your coat and relax in the comforts of your week or weekend retreat. Whether entertaining friends or family, this home offers a unique opportunity for each guest to relax and enjoy whatever activity they choose to do.

This house has so much to offer. A large open layout between the kitchen, dining and living room area allows for easy conversation and entertaining, while a separate loft has been designated as the TV room to gather for movies. Whether you want to whip up a meal in the fully equipped kitchen, barbeque on one of the two charcoal grills, try your hand on the outdoor pizza oven, or sit around the fire pit with your favorite dessert, then this is the place for you. Have dinner on the front wooden deck facing the stunning Denver Vega Valley or grab dessert on the blue stone patio surrounded by colorful perennial gardens, which may remind one of al fresco patios in Tuscany. Or simply read a book and relax on one of the Adirondack chairs or hammocks to forget about your hectic workweek. Whatever way you choose to relax, you will feel rejuvenated by the peaceful landscape in one of the most beautiful valleys in the Catskills. This house was built for a family or group of friends who love to gather and experience a one of a kind Catskills vacation.

As one recent renter said to me, the photos don't do this house any justice, it is much more beautiful in person. Given that we only started rented this place in January 2015, we are so pleased to hear that our guests absolute love the cabin and the property!

Our guests have raved at how equipped the house is:

The kitchen has state of the art knives, coffee maker (no filters needed), stovetop espresso maker, teakettle, every pot and pan imaginable, including Le Creuset pots, Crock-pot, baking trays and bread pans. We do also have two turkey pans for the holidays. The list goes on.

The living room comfortably sits 10 people. Grab a board game or the books we supply and enjoy. We supply wood for the winter if you want to start a fire.

The dining room accommodates 10 people and includes hutch with wine glasses, cordial glassware, beer mugs, etc.

This house features three bedrooms, all equipped with 800+ count sheets. On one side of the house there are two bedrooms, which offer new Sterns & Fosters European Firm Pillow top Queen size beds for a wonderful nights rest. One of these rooms also houses a kid's loft and workspace if you are “working from home”. The kid's loft is height restrictive, being only three feet high, but kids love it! You can hear them giggling as they read their bedtime stories. This loft has two queen-size mattresses that can hold up to four kids or more depending on their ages. This bedroom also has an entrance to the patio, so if you don’t want to wake someone up in the morning yet want to roam the land, you can. There is a bathroom with a shower next to these two bedrooms.

On the other side of the house there is a bedroom with a new Tempur-Pedic king size bed and a bathroom with a stand-up shower and Jacuzzi tub. This is the only bedroom that has a TV and DVD. Sliding glass doors open to the back patio and front deck.

Each room is large enough to add a playpen(s). We have two playpens for your convenience.

Additional guests can use the TV loft (large flat screen tv and DVDs included) as there is a queen sized futon and a queen sized Pottery Barn pull out couch with a gel insert for a comfortable nights rest.

The property features 100 acres that you can explore, hike to the pond or climb the rock ledges and take in the beauty that surround you.

We do charge extra for additional people over 10, the reason being is that it does take additional time for the cleaning crew to clean and that fee goes directly to them.

We offer quality high thread count sheets and plush towels for our guests.

For our summer guests we do not have air conditioning, we do have ceiling fans and several other fans in the loft areas. Since the Catskills and the house is at a higher elevation, humidity tends to be low in the summer and it is about a 10 to 15 degree difference than NYC, the evenings tend to cool off even in the summer months so we recommend you bring a sweater for nights. Summer nights are usually in the low to upper 60s, very pleasant.

The outdoor space has been created for entertainment. We have sun loungers and umbrellas, couch sets, a unique outdoor table that seats a large group. We also have two two-person hammocks. We supply wood for the firepot and the pizza oven.

This is a pet friendly home therefore if you have dog allergies than unfortunately this is not the home for you. However if you have a well-behaved, house-trained dog and want him/her to join you on your vacation then he/she is welcome. We are not prejudiced against any breed; we prefer dogs that do not display destructive behavior. Please let us know if you plan on having more than two dogs, sadly no cats allowed due to owner allergy. There is an additional cleaning fee if dogs do join you.

We are located in the Denver Vega Valley of Roxbury, NY. We are within 15 minutes of Belleayre and Plattekill Mountain. Belleayre Ski Resort has been named 2015 Condé Nast Traveler one of the “12 Underrated Ski Resorts in all of America” for excelling in “great skiing, genuine originality, and reasonable rates.”

Roxbury is host to many weddings; we are a stone’s throw away from Roxbury Barn, Stone Tavern Farm, The Inn at West Settlement, and many other venues hosting large events. If you want a round of golf then we are situated between Hannah Mountain Resort and Country Club and Shepherd Hills Golf Club. Kayaking, canoeing, paddle board within five minutes at Susan’s Pleasant Pheasant Farm. If you prefer to hike, you may do so on the property or hit the nearby trails with your furry friends. Finally, if you are a foodie, then perhaps the Public Restaurant and Lounge in Roxbury, Peekamoose Bar and Grill in Big Indian, Bear Café in Woodstock, Ate o Ate Food Truck, Phoenicia Diner and The Phoenician Steakhouse in Phoenicia, is up your alley. Just ask and we can advise on places to eat. Or gather your ingredients at the Round Barn Farmer’s Market in the summer months and make a great meal at home; the kitchen is well stocked for your convenience.

Perhaps fly fishing, zip-lining, tubing down the Esopus Creek or Night Snow Tubing at Platterkill Ski Mountain is more your thing. However you choose to spend your vacation you will thoroughly enjoy your stay in the Catskills.

About Lu Strutt

It all started with a love story. Daughter of Italian farmers and a native New Yorker meets an Englishman raised on a pig farm and marry in the Catskills. Take it from me, it is a very interesting story, but don’t want to bore you with the details! Anyway, the fun part begins when we merge our individual homes (we married later in life), call our weekend home our “official” home and have made every effort to restore this beautiful cabin and love sharing it with guests. This house was built from love (and blood, sweat and tears!).

Lu Strutt purchased this cabin in 2003

What makes this cabin unique

Once you drive past our house, the unique positioning perched on a steep slope is eye catching. The house enjoys many views from this perch. Waking up to this view is something to embrace, your mind goes blank. The outdoor entertainment is striking. The large wraparound two tier decks allows you to lounge about on sun loungers or relax in an adirondack chair. While the stone patio has a large table that fits 12 people comfortably, a pizza oven and two charcoal grills, and two couch areas to snooze the afternoon or evening away. This house is a dream for a large group of friends or family who want to get away from it all.

Quiet Rustic House with Modern Finishes

  • 5 of 5

I stayed at this house with 9 of my friends to attend a wedding in Roxbury. The house met all our expectations. Plenty of space, big kitchen and modern touches. On day of wedding we all had our own mini "party" in the backyard before the wedding. The house had grills, corn hole and other games that kept us entertained.

We had a tiny wear & tear issue however the owner was VERY responsive and offered to have it fixed that day. Overall the stay was excellent and made our wedding weekend feel memorable.

Serenity Now

My family and a few close friends had the pleasure of staying at this cabin last weekend. While researching rental properties to stay at for a weekend country getaway, the description and online pictures of this place had swiftly won us over. But to say that our Catskills retreat exceeded expectations would be an understatement.

Upon arrival, our entire party was blown away by the beauty and charm of the cabin. Lu, the homeowner, has made this house a home, and if she isn't already a professional interior decorator she should be. The cabin is this wonderful fusion of rustic charm mixed with modern chic that invokes a coziness that inimitable. The beautiful hardwoods; slate countertops; elegant light fixtures; stylish artwork... I mean, really, the cabin should be featured on an HGTV special.

But that's just the interior of the home. Believe it or not, we actually spent the majority of our time outside! The cabin sits on a hill that overlooks a gorgeous country landscape, with Lu's barn at the base of the property. There is an amazing wraparound porch with a stone patio in the back. The patio is a jaw-dropper. It has two charcoal grills built right in to the stonework, a firepit, and an OUTDOOR PIZZA OVEN! These features coupled with picture-perfect weather made for an idyllic weekend.

Overall, this rental property is a clear-cut 5 star rating for me. Lu made this a pleasurable experience from the get-go. I highly recommend this cabin and I can't wait to go back.

Sincerely,

Neil

Heavenly Oasis Escape From NYC

A few friends and I came to this house as part of a wedding taking place in the area. Our biggest complaint was we couldn't spend enough time at this beautiful home and fully utilize all it offered. We're planning a trip back in the fall and in the winter to truly capitalize on this majestic home.

Paradise in the Catskills

  • 5 of 5

Our daughter's wedding was the first weekend in June at the Roxbury Barn. My husband and I wanted to rent a home close to the barn that could accommodate a group for dinner the night before the wedding and brunch the day after. Lu Strutt and her rental home were perfect. First, a word about Lu--I have never had a rental owner do for me what she did. She communicated with me numerous times before our arrival. She knew I would be entertaining at her home, and went out of her way to assist me, making sure there was ample tableware, leaving tubs for us to use for beverages and ice, purchasing and delivering flowers for table centerpieces which were waiting for me when I arrived, and helping me find a caterer for the meals to name a few. She was simply amazing and the caterer she recommended, Amy's Takeaway, was equally amazing. The property itself is breathtaking and only 10 minutes from the barn. If there was ever a home built for entertaining, this is it. The back patio is spectacular with multiple sitting areas, a pizza oven, 2 grills, beautiful landscape, and string lighting overhead. The views from the living room and large front deck, which wraps around the entire house, are breathtaking. The inside of the home is equally beautiful in a "woodsy" contemporary way, can easily accomdate 20 plus people, and immaculate. The kitchen layout and open floor plan are perfect for entertaining. Our guests were equally impressed. I heard multiple "wows" as people toured the house and property. My only regret is that we had to leave. I can't thank Lu enough for helping make my daughter's wedding weekend a memorable experience.

Owner's Response: Thank you Marne and Michael for your glowing review! I was more than happy to help given your unfamiliarity of the area and you were traveling from afar. Having had my own wedding on the property I wanted to make sure you were adequately equipped so your hosting time was at a minimum so you could enjoy your guests and walk away with great memories from your daughters wedding. Thank you for choosing our house for your special events. Cant wait to see pictures!

The pictures do no justice to the home!

  • 5 of 5

This was my first experience on Homeaway.com let alone renting a property to use for a weekend. After looking around all over the internet for different Cabins/Homes to rent for a weekend... I stumbled upon this beautiful cabin home. Looking at the pictures provided by the website already sold me to inquire about renting this cabin out for the weekend. And so this is a summary of my experience in this house:

Cabin:

The pictures definitely do NOT do the cabin justice... when I walked in ... I was BLOWN away by the decor, design, and upkeep of the home. I searched all over for a nice comfortable cabin that felt like a resort getaway yet instilling the feeling that we were home... and boy did this house do it. Many cabins I found were sometimes decorated and designed very basic and well... the palette was just wood... That I knew, I would tire really quickly after a night let alone two nights. When I saw the pictures of this home... it was decorated to keep the beauty of the open wood design ... while not overdoing it by having really nice accent decor to compliment the overall wood build. Every bedroom was decorated so that it felt very updated without losing the "home" feel. The bathrooms... GORGEOUS... and what destroyed my senses was the Backyard. Beautifully decked out with a Pizza Oven, Two large grills... a long table with chairs next to a fire pit that really brought the "outdoors" to the home. And when it's night time... turn on the lights... and it feels like one of those romantic movies... with the lights hung over the whole backyard giving it a very majestic feel. All the amenities was provided as listed and I had not one complaint at all with anything in the house.

Owners:

Lu really was helpful through this process... Not only was Lu prompt and timely with answers to my MANY questions but was able to help me through understanding this whole renting process (included bombarding her with questions haha). Even when I needed to ask a last minute question about the home (like an hour before checkout)... when messaging her through Homeaway... she got back to me within minutes. I am blown away with her patience and service and if I ever need a home to stay in with a group of friends to relax... this place would be my first choice. She set a VERY HIGH standard of rentals for me... which may bite me in the butt haha... but I am so happy and lucky to have stayed here for the weekend.

Thank you Lu for making my friends and I feel at home!

Owner's Response: Wow thank you! Reading this makes me realize the countless hours, days and years I put into making this house a home was all worth while. The cabin itself with its vaulted ceiling is stunning, but the decor is the what makes it come alive. Although we have modern updates throughout, the cabin has touches from the land itself, items we found and repurposed; items we have found at local salvage/antique places; and items we built ourselves. Countless times we have gone shopping empty handed because we did not want to settle for lesser quality. But you are absolutely right, the outside is very special. All the stones bordering the gardens is from the land and even the pizza oven was built from the many stone walls that dot the property. We really have tried to make the outdoor entertainment area something to cherish especially when you are grilling with friends. And I do have a higher standard when it comes to my home, and have a higher expectation when it comes to cleanliness and it being tidy. I am very hands on and often at the house to make sure guests arrive to a very welcoming home. I truly take a great deal of joy in helping my guests :) We looking forward to your return!

This is a happy home! Highly recommend.

This is our second time staying in Lu's cabin and I have to say it is such a happy home. You can't help but be happy when you are there - even the towels greet you with welcome hello's in multiple languages. We live in NYC and it was such a pleasure to get a break from city life and hang our hats in a home that appeals to our modern aesthetics but plops you right in the middle of nature. We love to cook and the kitchen does not disappoint. And we love to be active. During our stay we went on many hikes on the trail right behind the property and the kids were sledding constantly on the banner of a sledding hill right in front of the home. We visited the Catskills Recreation Center to swim laps and for the kids to play in the pool and managed to sneak one day of skiing in when the temperatures cooperated. Both of the latter activities are just 10-15 minutes from the home. After the activities, it was such a treat to return to the cozy cabin, light the fire, and read books or play games. I spent a LOT of time last summer searching for the perfect Catskills home that would also take our dogs - this time payed off - Lu's cabin is just that and more. PS Go to Peekamoose Restaurant when you are in the area. And for the workout enthusiasts.. the Catskills Recreation center was a welcome find.

Owner's Response: So happy that what my husband and I set out to achieve was accomplished, our cabin is a very happy home and we want our guests to really feel like they are at home. Whether it is lighting a fire, grabbing a book or board game from our selection, we love knowing that the house is really relaxing and fun for our guests. We’ve had several guests who are training for an endurance event and head to the Catskill Recreation Center and love it; it is a great facility and a welcome addition to the area. We’ve had a ton of cyclists train in the summer/fall months too. I love Peekamoose! Glad you stopped by there. My personal favorite is their short ribs ☺ Looking forward to your return to the cabin!
