About the property

Impeccably maintained 3 bedroom, 2 bath cabin & barn event venue seats up to 80

A Home Away Home - See why we continually get 5 ***** by our guests on booking sites. Once you unlock the front door, you will realize we are not your typical rental. This is no ordinary log cabin, it’s an impeccably maintained three bedroom, two-bath cabin that sleeps up to 10 people. The rustic appeal remains, but modern twists make it fun and inviting. Hang your coat and relax in the comforts of your weekend or week retreat. Whether entertaining friends or family, this home offers a unique opportunity for each guest to relax and enjoy whatever activity they choose to do. This house was built for entertainment, a gathering for family and friends who want to experience a one of a kind Catskills escape. With great amenities and beautiful grounds it is also the perfect setting for a special event. A large open layout between the kitchen, dining and living room area allows for easy conversation and entertaining, while a separate loft has been designated as the entertainment room to watch TV (DIRECTV), access your Netflix or Hulu Account, or grab a movie from the DVD collection. The cabin has a fully equipped kitchen, our guests have raved at how equipped the house is. The kitchen has an electric cook top, double oven, French Door Fridge and Freezer, dishwasher, microwave, blender, pressure cooker, electric handheld mixer, electric can opener, and toaster. Also includes sharp! knives, coffee maker (no filters needed), coffee percolator, stovetop espresso maker, tea kettle, toaster, crock pot, waffle maker, including Le Creuset pots, baking trays and molds and bread pans, and assorted pots, pans, dinnerware, flatware, and serving ware. We do also have two turkey pans and platters for the holidays, and BBQ tools. The dining room has a farmhouse table that seats 10. The dining hutch offers wine glasses, cordial glassware, beer mugs, martini shaker, etc.

Accommodations: The cabin features three bedrooms, all equipped with 800+ count sheets in the summer and LLBean flannel sheets for the winter. The bathrooms provide plenty plush towels. On one side of the house there are two bedrooms, offers new Sterns & Fosters European Firm Pillow top Queen size beds for a wonderful nights rest. One of these rooms also houses a kid's loft. The kid's loft is height restrictive, being only three go four feet high, but kids and adults love it! You can hear kids giggling as they read their bedtime stories. This loft has two queen-size mattresses that can hold up to four kids or more depending on their ages. This bedroom also has an entrance to the blue stone patio, so if you don’t want to wake someone in the morning yet want to roam the land, you can. There is a bathroom with a shower next to these two bedrooms. On the other side of the house there is a bedroom with a new Tempur-Pedic king size bed and a bathroom with a stand-up shower and Jacuzzi tub. This is the only bedroom that has a TV and DVD. Sliding glass doors open to the back patio and front deck. Each room is large enough to add a playpen(s). We have two playpens for your convenience. Additional guests can use the entertainment loft as there is a queen sized futon or the queen sized Pottery Barn pull out couch with a gel insert in the living room. For our summer guests we do not have air conditioning, we do have ceiling fans and wall fans. Since the Catskills and the house is at a higher elevation, humidity tends to be low in the summer and it is about a 10 to 15 degree difference than NYC, the evenings tend to cool off even in the summer months so we recommend you bring a sweater for nights. Summer nights are usually in the low to upper 60s, very pleasant. For the winter guests, advise of arrival time and we will remotely turn up the heat so you arrive to a warm home. Outdoor entertainment space The blue stone patio on the back of the cabin has two charcoal grills, a pizza oven, fire pit, a 16 foot wood table built by a local craftsman that seats up to 20 and two couch sets. The patio is enveloped by rock walls, perennial gardens, and bathed in café lights at night. Or perhaps the two-tiered wooden deck facing the stunning Denver Vega Valley is more up your alley. Read a book and relax on one of the Adirondack chairs, take a nap on one of the loungers, or have your coffee or tea at the breakfast table. Whatever way you choose to relax, you will feel rejuvenated by the peaceful landscape in one of the most beautiful valleys in the Catskills. **This is a pet friendly home therefore if you have dog allergies than unfortunately this is not the home for you. However if you have a well-behaved, house-trained dog and want him/her to join you on your vacation then he/she is welcome. We are not prejudiced against any breed; we prefer dogs that do not display destructive behavior. Please let us know if you plan on bringing your dog, additional fee applies. Sadly no cats allowed due to owner allergy. What we provide Price includes: Firewood for the cabin and barn fire pit, Pizza Oven, and indoor fireplace. Towels, Sheets, Blankets, Toilet paper, Paper towels, Dish soap, Dishwasher soap, Washing Machine soap, Kitchen Garbage Bags, sugar and spices. Amenities include: DIRECTV, DVD Player and Wi-Fi, Book and DVD Collection, Washer and Dryer (2). Additional Bonus: We have an arrangement with the local wine/liquor shop, ROXBURY WINE AND SPIRITS, to deliver to the house. So when you arrive everything is there for your convenience. We have made it easy for our guests, we provide a key code to the front door prior to your arrival, so no key exchange is necessary.

Location We are located in the stunning Denver Vega Valley of Roxbury, New York. Yes, DENVER New York? Named in the late 1800s when a local resident named the Post Office Denver because she thought the hilly terrain might be similar to that of Denver, Colorado. And she was and is right. With its valley and mountain views, Denver is appropriately named. It’s truly a breathtaking and a hidden gem set in the beautiful Catskill Mountains. The cabin and barn with its unique positioning, perched on a steep hill, allows you to capture these gorgeous views. Waking up to this view is something to embrace, your mind goes blank. With 100 acres to explore you are surrounded by incredible nature. The property is surrounded by a majority of Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) and Forever Wild land. Climb the rock ledges, explore the rock quarry, throw a stick in for the pond for the pup, or witness why the street was once named Hawk Hollow as hawks fly over head or occasionally witness a Bald or Golden Eagle grace the skies above. Come see why Fodor’s named the Hudson Valley and Catskill Mountains one of the top 25 places in the world to visit in 2015 (and we think that recognition should be given every year). If skiing, cycling, hiking or a wedding brings you to the area, then we are in the heart of it all. We are within 15 minutes of Belleayre and Plattekill Mountains. Belleayre Ski Resort was named 2015 Condé Nast Traveler one of the “12 Underrated Ski Resorts in all of America” for excelling in “great skiing, genuine originality, and reasonable rates.” Plattekill is a family run resort and hosts year around events, including Plattepalooza Family Fall Festival live music, foliage chairlift rides, fall fare, beer garden serving in-season brews, s'mores making to apple cider press. Roxbury is host to many weddings. We are a stone’s throw away from Roxbury Barn and Estate (7 miles), Stone Tavern Farm (6 1/2 miles), The Inn at West Settlement (8 miles), Barn at Headwaters (8 miles), Blenheim Hill Farm (25 miles) and many other venues hosting large events. If you want a round of golf then we are situated between Hannah Mountain Resort and Country Club and Shepherd Hills Golf Club. Kayaking, canoeing, paddle board within five minutes at Susan’s Pleasant Pheasant Farm. If you prefer to hike, hit the nearby trails including Bear Pen and Catskill Scenic Trail. Or perhaps fly fishing, zip-lining, tubing down the Esopus Creek, Night Snow Tubing at Platterkill Ski Mountain is more your thing. Last but not least, you are foodie then you would be happy to hear that the area is gaining a lot of attention on the culinary front. Check out Public Restaurant and Lounge in Roxbury, Peekamoose Bar and Grill in Big Indian, Bear Café in Woodstock, Phoenicia Diner and The Phoenician Steakhouse in Phoenicia, Zephyr Restaurant in Pine Hill, Table on Ten in Bloomville, Brushland Eatery in Bovina, Bull and Garden in Hobart, or grab a cider and nibbles at Wayside Cider in Andes or pick up spirits at Union Grove Distillery in Arkville. And we love the newcomer to the scene, Outsiders Kitchen, for breakfast and lunch. Or gather your ingredients at the Round Barn Farmer’s Market and Ella’s Mercantile and make a great meal at home. Just ask and we can advise on places to eat. However you choose to spend your vacation you will thoroughly enjoy your stay in the Catskills.

Great time for Thanksgiving vacation for 2 families

  • 5 of 5

Wether you want to spend your time hiking outside or tucked in by the fireplace inside, this is the perfect house.

With a great view of the valley and mountain across, with great amenities and a special wood burning pizza oven for the foodies, we strongly recommend this property.

Perfect Bday Weekend Getaway!

  • 5 of 5

This was actually our second year staying at this house for my birthday weekend with a group of dear friends. We enjoyed it so much last year, that we decided to return.

Lu was helpful and very responsive from beginning to end. Our first year on the last day of our trip there was unexpected snow and from the looks of it, getting on the road seemed iffy. Lu was quite helpful in alerting us about when the roads would be plowed and making sure that we had no trouble getting out. She also was quite resourceful in providing recommendations and intel on the area, where to eat, drink, etc.

The house is deliciously cozy and comfortable, beautifully decorated and if you enjoy cooking, an awesome kitchen, with great cookware! Not to mention a pizza oven! This year we mastered our pizza making skills and our big family style homemade Sunday night dinner was a real highlight. Most of our time was spent relaxing, sitting by the fireplace and enjoying the simple pleasures of just existing in a wonderful space. If this sounds like what you are looking for, you will be quite happy. We did venture into Woodstock for the day, and always end the trip with a stop at Phoenicia Diner (a must!). The house is pretty remote from town, at least 15-20 min away, so make sure you stop by the grocery store to get everything you need on your way up. The phone service in the area is also not amazing, so make sure you screenshot or save anything needed on your phone on the way up. In the house you are fine with wifi, but calls/texts will be spotty unless through wifi, ie; whatsapp.

I cannot say enough great things about how special this house is, my experiences (both times!) and Lu. As an NYC inhabitant, there is something really amazing about getting away from the city and being able to enjoy country life in a beautiful setting. In short, the house and our trips fulfilled all my expectations.

Amazing property, Lu is a dream to work with

  • 5 of 5

We rented this house for a nearby wedding weekend, for some of our guests to stay at, and also to hold our rehearsal dinner at on Friday. Lu went above and beyond, helping us also utilize the beautiful barn for our dinner, decorating and making sure our guests would be perfectly comfortable in the house.

While I didn't stay in the house myself, I did get to see it and she's done an amazing job decorating and upkeeping the property. I can say enough good things about the venue, and highly recommend reaching out to Lu to coordinate.

Wonderful, cozy lodge in a beautiful setting

  • 5 of 5

My wife, kids and I made a trip from Texas to visit Niagra Falls, Cooperstown, the Catskills and NYC. We found this wonderful property for the middle of our trip and really enjoyed our stay. The front decks provided a fantastic view of the small valley and surrounding hills, and the back patio and yard were shaded and surrounded by trees on all sides. We had a hard time deducing which outdoor area to spend our time! The home itself is well appointed and uniquely decorated, and the kitchen was top notch.Had we been able to extend our stay we would have done it here. Lu has done a great job with this lovely place - we'll be back!

Wonderful wedding weekend home!

  • 5 of 5

We rented this home for our wedding weekend and hosted our rehearsal dinner for 36 people here -- it could not have been more of a success! Lu helped us from months out with planning everything from the table rentals to the flower arrangements. When we arrived to the house, Lu had already received our wine delivery and stocked the refrigerator for us! In addition to Lu being the most hospitable hostess, her home is absolutely gorgeous. The photos barely capture how beautiful the home is inside and how amazing the views are outside the home. Renting Lu's home for our wedding weekend was one of our best decisions related to our wedding and we hope to come back again in the future for a Catskills vacation!

Great house to share with another family

The proximity to Belleayre and Plattekill is ideal for the winter providing less crowded skiing opportunities compared to Windham and Hunter.

About Lu Strutt

It all started with a love story. Daughter of Italian farmers and a native New Yorker meets an Englishman raised on a pig farm elope to OZ and then celebrate our nuptials in the Catskills. Take it from me, it is a very interesting story, but don’t want to bore you with the details! Anyway, the fun part begins when we merge our individual homes (we married later in life), call our weekend home our “official” home and have made every effort to restore this beautiful cabin and love sharing it with guests. This house was built from love (and blood, sweat and tears!).

Lu Strutt purchased this cabin in 2003

Why Lu Strutt chose Denver

We are not your typical rental; we are your home away from home, no need to bring anything but yourselves and your luggage.

Once you unlock the front door, you will realize this is no ordinary log cabin, the rustic appeal remains, but modern twists make it fun and inviting. Hang your coat and relax in the comforts of your week or weekend retreat. Whether entertaining friends or family, this home offers a unique opportunity for each guest to relax and enjoy whatever activity they choose to do.

This house has so much to offer. A large open layout between the kitchen, dining and living room area allows for easy conversation and entertaining, while a separate loft has been designated as the TV room to gather for movies. Whether you want to whip up a meal in the fully equipped kitchen, bbq on one of the two charcoal grills, try your hand on the outdoor pizza oven, or sit around the fire pit with your favorite dessert, then this is the place for you. Have dinner on the front wooden deck facing the stunning Denver Vega Valley or grab dessert on the blue stone patio surrounded by colorful perennial gardens, which may remind one of al fresco patios in Tuscany. Or simply read a book and relax on one of the Adirondack chairs, couch sets or hammocks to forget about your hectic workweek. Whatever way you choose to relax, you will feel rejuvenated by the peaceful landscape in one of the most beautiful valleys in the Catskills. This house was built for a family or group of friends who love to gather and experience a one of a kind Catskills vacation.

As one recent renter said to me, the photos don't do this house any justice, it is much more beautiful in person. Given that we only started rented this place in January 2015 on another rental site, we are so pleased to hear that our guests absolute love the cab

What makes this cabin unique

Once you drive past our house, the unique positioning perched on a steep slope is eye catching. The house enjoys many views from this perch. Waking up to this view is something to embrace, your mind goes blank. The outdoor entertainment is striking. The large wraparound two tier decks allows you to lounge about on sun loungers or relax in an adirondack chair. While the stone patio has a large table that fits 15 people comfortably, a pizza oven and two charcoal grills, and two couch areas to snooze the afternoon or evening away. This house is a dream for a large group of friends or family who want to get away from it all.
