Overview

About the property

Central location, lots of space, offstreet parking, near beaches and restaurants

Standing across the street from famed Newport Harbor, this incredible unit stands out in the city. Very few units in Newport Harbor have such a commanding view of the area and the waterfront. This dramatic unit features one of the largest outdoor decks/patios in Newport. Running the entire length of the facade of the building, this penthouse deck almost doubles the square footage of the 2-level unit itself. Inside, cathedral ceilings are accented with skylights and lead to a large second level. Two Sets of double doors lead from the deck into the dining room and kitchen and into the living area. A wide, nautical open oak staircase leads to the upper floor. Three bathrooms, two en suite, add to the comfort of this unit. 5 very large bedrooms, also with cathedral ceilings, make for spacious living. Walk-in closets and an in-unit laundry room round out this spectacular unit - one of the best places in Newport. Rental includes all utilities and 2 off-street parking spots.

Great location

  • 4 of 5

Location is perfect. Owner and agent were very good in assisting us. The lack of central AC (window units in bedrooms) was not an issue for our particular weekend because weather was fine. The walk up 3 flights is the price you pay for the rooftop patio & view. The lights did not work in the master bedroom but we did not bother owner with it. I am sure the agent would have fixed. We had a very good time there.

As advertised

  • 5 of 5

The house was just as advertised. Great view and location. The house was clean and well kept with plenty of toilet paper, paper towels and soaps. Would definitely return again next September!

I stayed for Memorial Day Weekend and had a blast.

  • 5 of 5

Building is in the best location. Right outside the front door was everywhere I wanted to be. The enormous deck over looking downtown gave me a ton of energy. The size of the unit alone made me feel like a big shot, like I was in New York city or something. The two parking passes were super handy. The bedrooms were big and breezy, I slept like a dream. I would recommend this unit to anyone.

Amazing balcony. But not well maintained.

  • 3 of 5

The apartment has a large balcony that overlooks Thames Street and has water views. Great place to hang out. The rest of the apartment? Rather disappointing, given the cost. The apartment complex's carpeted stairs are dirty and smell of smoke, with some trash on the floor. The living room is comfortable and the kitchen is big. By most rental standards, both could use updating, but they were fine. The real issue was the bedrooms: most need a significant face lift, to say the least - the photos don't do them justice. One the bedrooms seemed to have a large hole in the wall that was covered with a piece of plywood, the carpets need replacing, and in general, they all need some TLC. Overall, it has the feel of a college apartment in a partying apartment building, which was fine for our group - we didn't mind the noise from the building and street and we didn't have to worry about disturbing the neighbors with our own noise -- but even so, it is not well kept up. The apartment was not thoroughly cleaned when we arrived: for instance, there was an empty beer can under the bathroom sink. No big deal, but indicative of a larger problem. The hot water went out half way through our visit (which didn't bother us terribly, since it was during the summer), and when I finally called our agent, a nice guy, he said he'd call the owner. Never heard back from either. We didn't mind, but the lack of follow-up was surprising. That said, we still had a great time because the deck made it all worth it and the location was perfect. And while I'd hope that the owner puts a little work into it -- the place has great potential -- I'd still consider going back.

Owner's Response: From owner of property. “Thank you for your thoughtful review. I am sorry that you had a less than perfect stay in our penthouse on Thames. I just purchased this property in early July 2015 and have put a considerable amount of time and money into upgrading the building and penthouse. The holes you witnessed were part of the infrastructure upgrades for the property. Since your stay we have upgraded the water heater/boiler to a top of the line Bosch system, have replaced several appliances with top of the line products and have switched cleaning companies. Before the next rental season we plan on upgrading the furniture and décor as well as sprucing up the paint and flooring. Regarding the noise, I can assure you that all of the other residents of the building are working professionals. There is no student housing and no other weekly rentals. There is street noise, as the unit overlooks the main thoroughfare in Newport in the summer which can be quite lively. Of course there are pros and cons to staying in an apartment that is right in the middle of the action and it is not for everybody.”

Great place. So much room and perfect location.

Planned we guys weekend fishing trip. Didn't need the most spectacular place and this exceeded our expectations. Mainly because there was so much space. The balcony overlooking the road made the weekend. We hung out there most of the time. Walked everywhere we needed to and two garage parking spots right next door. Super convenient. If I go back with a big group I'm staying here for sure.
