Downeast and Acadia Cabin Rental Photos and Description

3 bedrooms, 2 full bathrooms, 1 half bathroom, sleeps 9 or 10

A great spot to just relax and enjoy the view. Our renters agree that the photographs don't do it justice. A large great room has floor to ceiling windows overlooking the bay, and has a stone fireplace so you can watch the sunset or sit by the fire. The kitchen is very well appointed and includes just about everything the chef desires except the food. There is a full laundry room with a washer and a dryer. No need to waste hours at the laundromat. The rec room includes a ping pong table, games, video tapes, and satellite TV as well as a cozy stone fireplace and a seating area to relax and enjoy the fire or the spectacular view of Frenchman Bay. The children's bedroom is furnished with a full/twin bunk bed, a toddler bed, and a Pack n Play. In addition there are two beautifully furnished bedrooms with queen-size beds. There is a queen size sofa bed in the great room, and two comfortable inflatable beds which each sleep two adults.

The home is located about 35 minutes from Bar Harbor, the hub of activities on Mount Desert Island and gateway to Acadia National Park. Bar Harbor offers dozens of restaurants and shops and also kayak and bike rentals.

Hikers who prefer less crowded trails will find that nearby Black Mountain and Schoodic Mountain offer gorgeous panoramic vistas of lakes, ponds, Frenchman Bay, and the Porcupine Islands without the large numbers of hikers found on the better known trails of Acadia.

Winter Harbor, just 5 minutes away, offers galleries, shops and dining, all located in a quaint lobstering village with a picturesque town harbor and dock. A passenger ferry runs numerous trips daily from Winter Harbor to Bar Harbor. Lobster pounds abound, and two are located within a couple of miles of the house. Swim and fish at nearby Jones Pond or Donnell Pond at the foot of Schoodic Mountain. Kayaks can be rented in nearby Birch Harbor and kayak tours can also be arranged.

The entrance to the Schoodic Section of Acadia National Park is a few minutes from the house by car or bike, and is a beautiful 'secret' spot which is visited by only a few of the thousands of visitors to Acadia.

I want to tell you how much we enjoyed our short week in your Maine home. The location was stunning, both in the sun and rain. As most attractions in the area were closed we took advantage of that great stone fireplace and the comfy couch to lounge in. I haven't enjoyed doing nothing so much for a long time. I even got a couple of good books read. The people of Winter Harbor were great and very welcoming.

We look forward to renting from you again. I haven't found a more relaxing place anywhere. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to you and your family.

Absolutely stunning!

  • 5 of 5

Our family of 6 stayed in this beautiful home in June, 2016. The home was exactly as portrayed in all of the pictures, but only better in real life! The view upon walking in the front door is simply breath-taking. Everything that you could possibly need is provided - completely stocked kitchen, linens and towels, plates, pots and pans, etc. Richard was very nice and called to make sure we arrived and to see if there was anything we needed. He provided some good tips on hiking trails and answered any questions we had. The little town of Winter Harbor is very close - 5 mins - and has two grocery stores that will get you by. Of course the fresh lobster from the co-op is the absolute best! The drive to Bar Harbor is about 40 minutes and there is a larger grocery store there. If you are looking for commercialism and crowds, Bar Harbor is the place. We preferred the solitude of Winter Harbor and the house. The views from this gorgeous house are just spectacular and it is so peaceful sitting on the large porch looking out at the view, reading a good book and drinking a favorite beverage - it was our choice to spend a lot of time there just relaxing. Of course family ping-pong tournaments were also fun! We did hike at Acadia one day and another day, we drove the trail at Schoodnic - beautiful and 5 mins away! There are hiking trails at Schoodnic also but we ran out of time and did not hike any unfortunately. Also, there is a ferry from Schoodnic or Winter Harbor to Bar Harbor, but due to some weather concerns during our stay, we ended up just driving to Bar Harbor, but would recommend the ferry on a beautiful sunny day! When the tide is low, walking on the rocks in front of the house provides gorgeous views and some pretty shell finds. In all, this was a wonderful spot to vacation. We hope to return someday in the fall, as the foliage must be beautiful then. We have nothing negative to say about the house and recommend it highly! You will not be disappointed!

Paradise on Earth

  • 5 of 5

There is no way to summarize our experience at this incredibly beautiful home and setting. To start with, the service, the cleanliness, the layout was perfect. We had no trouble finding it, and no trouble settling in for our honeymoon stay. The first view we had of the ocean (bay) was mind-blowing: And just a few steps from a rocky beach. The deck was a perfect place for morning tea, reading and listening to the breeze in the pines and the water sounds. Lunch on the deck was sometimes even better, with the warm sun shining down. Though we had great, memorable days exploring Acadia, with hiking, biking and sailing filling our time, our best times were right there in the house. We literally hated to leave, as the peace and quiet, beauty and natural wonders made it all heavenly for us. We look forward to returning. We recommend it highly!

What a lovely cabin in a fantastic setting!

  • 5 of 5

I have nothing negative to say about this place. We had a wonderful time! At arrival the cabin was immaculate and had all the necessities covered, soap in the bathrooms, toilet paper, kitchen essentials like salt, vinegar, spices, and oil. The kitchen was fully equipped and the pots and pans were in good shape. We have stayed in other rentals where this has not been the case, and could immediately sense the difference. There even was a huge pot for boiling lobster! The cabin is tastefully decorated and very comfortable, and the location is outstanding. Close to Winter Harbor but at the same time secluded. You do not see any other properties from the house. There is this marvelous feeling of being alone with nature. A very private rocky beach can be accessed by the back yard and we spent hours there reading, soaking the sun, and listening to the waves crash against the rocks. We hope to repeat our visit someday! A wonderful getaway in the middle of winter!

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I wanted to get away from the corporate world for a week, someplace serene, beautiful, but with the amenities of home. We found it and more in this cabin! We arrived late at night due to a snow storm, but found the cabin easily. The road and driveway were plowed and the cabin was pleasantly warm.

The kitchen had everything we needed to cook all our meals, and the open great room was really nice, as it allowed us to chat when one of us was cooking. The bedroom on the main floor has its own bathroom, as well as a TV/cable, which was a nice surprise. But our biggest surprise was the view.

The view is stunning, even in the middle of winter. It was such a nice surprise to wake up to! (And the view is even better from the lower floor.) Although I ended up having to work half the time we were there, being able to pause and watch the waves helped to keep my stress level down.

I can't say enough nice things about this cabin. Dealing with Rich was super easy, as was the rental processes. The cabin was clean, warm, beautiful, and had amazing views. My husband and I very much enjoyed our stay here, and will look to come back in the future!

Beautiful Cabin on Maine's Coast, Secluded, Quiet

  • 4 of 5

We absolutely LOVED our time at this incredibly beautiful and spacious log cabin on the Schoodic Peninsala of Maine! The cabin is superb - very well done, tastefully decorated! The views are unbelievably breathtaking of the ocean, harbor, and islands! We were in awe! Richard was so helpful when we had questions and was wonderful to work with!

While we loved being out and away from everything to truly 'get away', our only regret was that it was SO far away from everything!! I think late October means that most local places are closed down; and the travel distance to Bar Harbor was a bit further than we had anticipated.(50 minutes or so) But if you want to just relax and enjoy the cabin and the views, the amazing fireplace, and quiet, this place is amazing! if we were to come again, we'd come in summer or September, while the ferry still runs across to Bar Harbor!

thank you, Richard, for sharing your beautiful cabin with us!

Owner's Response: We greatly appreciate the wonderful review our guests wrote for our log cabin. We do disagree that it is "so far away from everything". We spoke to our guests prior to their arrival and told them that we would be happy to answer any questions they had concerning things to do nearby and places to shop during their rental including hiking the beautiful Schoodic section of Acadia National Park, year round live entertainment, and local shopping. The time to Bar Harbor is also considerably less had they taken the shortest route through Lamoine rather than going through Ellsworth. We average 32 minutes for the trip. We strongly feel that we do everything possible to provide a beautiful home, and we are happy to provide personal advice on the many things to see and do no matter what season of the year. As Advertised!!

  • 5 of 5

Last day here after 2 weeks- leaving tomorrow. Everything is just like the website claims. No issues of any kind. Had no need of fireplace or air conditioners as the weather was just perfect. Place can sleep a larger group but was very enjoyable for just the two of us. Location is a great place to jump off any direction for exploring downeast Maine. No hassle of crowds like Bar Harbor and not too far if one wishes to see the attractions of Bar Harbor. (We only spent a few hours there and had lunch at Gaylyns near the port)

Blueberry festival in Machias was most entertaining. Not to miss is Campobello, where Franklin Roosevelt spent part of his boyhood and early years of marriage. about 1and 1/2 hours away. Bring passport as it is in New Brunswick

Of course Acadia is wonderful. Lots to do there. Be sure to visit Jordans Pond and enjoy the popovers-fantastic! Also the Schoodic part of Acadia is a great place to visit.

Best meal we had was at Trenton Bridges Lobster pound although we never really had an unpleasant meal experience. We liked Winter Harbor and visited nearly all the shops.

We recommend this place highly.
