A great spot to just relax and enjoy the view. Our renters agree that the photographs don't do it justice. A large great room has floor to ceiling windows overlooking the bay, and has a stone fireplace so you can watch the sunset or sit by the fire. The kitchen is very well appointed and includes just about everything the chef desires except the food. There is a full laundry room with a washer and a dryer. No need to waste hours at the laundromat. The rec room includes a ping pong table, games, video tapes, and satellite TV as well as a cozy stone fireplace and a seating area to relax and enjoy the fire or the spectacular view of Frenchman Bay. The children's bedroom is furnished with a full/twin bunk bed, a toddler bed, and a Pack n Play. In addition there are two beautifully furnished bedrooms with queen-size beds. There is a queen size sofa bed in the great room, and two comfortable inflatable beds which each sleep two adults.
The home is located about 35 minutes from Bar Harbor, the hub of activities on Mount Desert Island and gateway to Acadia National Park. Bar Harbor offers dozens of restaurants and shops and also kayak and bike rentals.
Hikers who prefer less crowded trails will find that nearby Black Mountain and Schoodic Mountain offer gorgeous panoramic vistas of lakes, ponds, Frenchman Bay, and the Porcupine Islands without the large numbers of hikers found on the better known trails of Acadia.
Winter Harbor, just 5 minutes away, offers galleries, shops and dining, all located in a quaint lobstering village with a picturesque town harbor and dock. A passenger ferry runs numerous trips daily from Winter Harbor to Bar Harbor. Lobster pounds abound, and two are located within a couple of miles of the house. Swim and fish at nearby Jones Pond or Donnell Pond at the foot of Schoodic Mountain. Kayaks can be rented in nearby Birch Harbor and kayak tours can also be arranged.
The entrance to the Schoodic Section of Acadia National Park is a few minutes from the house by car or bike, and is a beautiful 'secret' spot which is visited by only a few of the thousands of visitors to Acadia.
I want to tell you how much we enjoyed our short week in your Maine home. The location was stunning, both in the sun and rain. As most attractions in the area were closed we took advantage of that great stone fireplace and the comfy couch to lounge in. I haven't enjoyed doing nothing so much for a long time. I even got a couple of good books read. The people of Winter Harbor were great and very welcoming.
We look forward to renting from you again. I haven't found a more relaxing place anywhere. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to you and your family.
Central location to enjoy down east Maine. The Schoodic Peninsula and surrounding towns are a reflection of true coastal Maine. Not full of tourists and gimmicks. We were able to enjoy a peaceful, quiet, and relaxing vacation while interacting with very friendly locals.
The log home is spectacular. Every morning you wakeup and coffee on the porch overlooking frenchmans bay will make you never want to leave this magnificent home. There is so much to do in the area but all i ever wanted was to sit out back and enjoy th views. Every night the sunsets are breathtaking. I never wanted to leave. Seriously people, if your in need of intense de-stress treatment simply stay here for a week . I guarantee
you leave completly refreshed and able to go back to life in the big city.
We were hoping the pictures in this listing were accurate but what we found was an amazing surprise! As beautiful as the pictures in the listing are, they do not do the property justice! The property was amazing, the house was amazing, the views were amazing, the amenities were great. We played ping pong for hours. We sat on the back deck, drank coffee/wine and viewed the ocean for hours as the sun set and as the sun rose. We watched the fog dissipate and the islands in the distance become visible. We watched the lobster boats empty their traps, the chipmunks and red squirrels battle for territory, and the hummingbirds eat from the feeder. We became acquainted with the Lobster Coop (co-op) and toured Winter Harbor which was less then 5 minutes away. We ate a great meal at Chipper's restaurant (reviewed on Trip Advisor) and we felt at home in the Krasner cabin. It was a very special family trip and the foundation was the house. Bar Harbor was less then an hour away and was totally worth the trip. I highly suggest hiking trails in the part of Acadia National park on the Schoodic Peninsula. It was so much less crowded than the MDI section. The rangers were very polite and there weren't any lines. 7 nights, 21 lobsters cooked and a host of memories to take back to the city with us equals a very successful vacation. Thanks to the Krasners for letting us share in their house. It was nothing short of fantastic.
My stressed out husband and I needed a real getaway from our hectic lives and we found it in this lovely home. We loved sitting on the deck of this house, with the beautiful view of the bay and did so at all times of the day. The home is warm and inviting and well-maintained. It is not in a touristy area like Bar Harbor, but you can go there if you want. We enjoyed visiting nearby Winter Harbor with its shops and restaurants, which has an authentic Maine feel about it. The local coop sells magnificent lobsters (two select shedders of 2 1/2 pounds cost under $25) and the home has a large pot to cook them in and all the accoutrements for eating them. Bring your own boat to enjoy the water or walk or run in the neighborhood if that's your activity, otherwise hiking, biking, sailing is a drive away. We visited Northeast Harbor for sailing with Acadia Sailing and this is a community which will give everyone house envy. We also enjoyed seeing FDR's summer home Campobello in New Brunswick, Canada, which is a few hours away. We thank the owners for sharing their home away from home. The loons called to me when we left saying simply "Don't leave!" Sorry guys, I had to go.
Outstanding accommodations - beautiful setting - perfect vacation. Highly recommend.
We vacationed at this wonderful home in August of 2016. Everything was clean and inviting. The towels and sheets were all provided. The beds were beautiful and comfortable. There was nothing missing to distract us from enjoying a lovely time with our three kids ages 11, 13 and 15. We all enjoyed the natural feel of the log home, stone fireplace and decorations. We spend time together having breakfast on the porch enjoying the sounds of the waves. Every evening my girls took a new picture of the sun setting on Frenchman's Bay. We spent time playing cards, ping pong tournaments, reading and listening to the wind chimes blowing in the breeze. The kids enjoyed exploring the shells and crabs on the rocky shore. It was honestly hard to leave the house but we made our way to wonderful local attractions. We visited the Schoodic peninsula portion of Acadia right down the road for hiking and fishing a few different times. We went to Mt Desert Island hiking 2 days (get there by 8:30 during busy season) and another day to kayak at Long Lake. We loved the restaurants in Winter Harbor and Corea. We also cooked Lobster and some other good meals as the kitchen has everything you need. We found a great ice cream place a few miles away past winter Harbor. Our family wanted to have a memorable vacation and this home was a wonderful venue to make that happen.
Located in Summer Harbor, just off the Schoodic National Scenic Byway on the Beautiful Schoodic Peninsula. A quiet, peaceful getaway offering breathtaking views of Frenchman Bay and five islands, just minutes from Bar Harbor by car or ferry. You can drive, bike, or hike the few miles to the Schoodic Section of Acadia National Park. The Schoodic Loop Road offers spectacular views of Winter Harbor, The Bay, And the rugged, rocky coast of the North Atlantic.
