Oceanfront Condo on second floor with amazing view. Beach is just 100 feet from unit. Recently remodeled kitchen and bathrooms.
The unit was very spacious and the view was beautiful, it was nice to sit on the sofa and watch sunrise over the ocean. The mattresses are on the soft side and seemed a little worn. There is no air conditioning, which means you need to leave the windows open. Kapaa can get windy, so it was very loud at night and hard to sleep. The windows in the master sounded like the wind rushing through a haunted house. Open windows also means you can easily hear the roosters at every sunrise.
The kitchen was well stocked, the dining table seats 6 easily
If they added air conditioning and changed the mattresses this would be a 5 star review
Kapaa is centrally located, which is nice, but it is a 30 minute drive to the best beaches. The beach outside the unit was not swimmable and there was trash in the water.
It is a short walk to downtown Kapaa where there are several restaurants. The Olympic cafe was the best value we found and the food was decent but not spectacular.
Great location on the Coconut Coast with sweeping views of the Pacific Ocean. Easy access from the airport and ample parking at the Pono Kai makes it a great destination for all. I can't comment on the amenities because, other than the laundry rooms, we did not use them. I can tell you that the Pono Kai is on the ocean and the design makes easy access to the ocean. Swim beaches are everywhere and downtown Kapaa has a great vibe to it. If you are here the 1st Saturday of the months then you are in for a treat.
The condo was spacious and absorbed five people easily. Large rooms and double sink bathrooms work well for for the morning rush. Of all the places I have stayed.in Hawaii, Phil's was the most stocked with toys and daily necessities.
So here is bad: the women complained about the place as being outdated but everything worked, so the men were happy. The Internet was spotty, so the kids were not happy. My take on the Internet is I have yet to stay in Hawaii (this was number 4) where the Internet works properly. It's probably a Hawaiian thing. If you are on the Internet then you should be looking for your next adventure and not playing games.
Would I recommend this to someone? Most definitely and with out reservation. This was the best location (ocean view)we have ever stayed in. Everything is right there. Yes it's paradise.
The view and location are perfect. We've stayed at the Pono Kai several times and love the grounds, location and the town of Kapaa. The beds and furnishings in our unit were very comfortable and having an end unit is a bonus. I was a little worried about not having air conditioning but we did not need it. In fact, we could use our blankets. Loved listening to the sounds of the waves at night. I would definitely recommend this place (and already have) and will return.
The location of the condo on the beach and in Kapaa are the greatest features. The resort was wonderful and the people very helpful. Had a minor issue with the tv and Monica who is Phil's island contact was great getting it fixed. Walking and bike trail directly in front was used every day. To be honest the condo needs a fix up with carpets, woodwork, fixtures although the condo was very well stocked. The outside furniture was not clean or wiped down when we arrived. Otherwise it was good working with Phil with questions. Also the roosters will wake you every morning before the sun rises!
We had an amazing time. The bedrooms were good with nice comfortable beds. It had everything you need to have a great stay. The view from the condo was great. We will stay here again.
Nice location right on bike trail and easy walking distance in to town. We had one of the private units through vrbo that was oceanfront. It is a dated facility but its functional. I would advise anyone to get a top floor though. We were on the top floor and could hear every word the people under us were saying and our floors creaked when we walked on them, so I'm assuming if you are on a ground floor you will hear everything even more. They are not well insulated units. Overall it was good, primarily because of the location.
