Wicker Park/Bucktown is known for its restaurant, night life & eclectic shopping. Our neighborhood contains many Michelin recommended restaurants.

We're thrilled to announce the opening of the Bloomingdale Trail on June 6, 2015. The trail is a linear park with a 2.7 mile biking, walking, running and blading trail. One of the entrances to the trail is at the end of our block! The trail has entrances about every .25 miles and lets you travel to other neighboring areas while avoiding car traffic. Great for the fitness enthusiast.

We will provide a guide to all the neighborhood has to offer and take out menus for all the great restaurants.

One of Chicago's creative epicenters lies just west of downtown Chicago in Wicker Park and Bucktown. These synonymous neighborhoods are famous for unparalleled boutique shopping, esoteric book stores and their countless art galleries — many housed within the Flat Iron Arts Building. If you have an acute knowledge of craft cocktails and an affinity for independent clothing designers, there's no better area to sip and shop in the country.

The area has recently become a prevailing influence on Chicago's Michelin-rated dining scene, boasting some of city's most sought after restaurants, including Xoco and Big Star. Wicker Park and Bucktown are also known for their palate pleasing nightcaps, like renowned brewery Piece and mixology tour de force Violet Hour.

The neighborhood's most enduring quality is its shopping. Along North, Milwaukee and Damen Avenue, you will find an unbelievable mix of vintage shops amid independently-owned boutiques touting fashions for both men and women. On the same blocks are nationally-recognized designers, fashion industry behemoths and major retailers.

About Alyssa Lee

My husband and I own this 3 unit flat, we live on the first floor, rent the 3rd floor to a great tenant. The 2nd floor is primarily used for our friends and family when they visit but when it's empty we love to share it with other travelers.

The apartment is completely separate from the other units, but we're near by should you have any issues or just want to know which of the many cafes are the best in the neighborhood.

Come enjoy all that Chicago has to offer with us!

Great two-bedroom just 1 block from train and 15 minutes from downtown Chicago

  • 4 of 5

Hosts were terrific to work with before and during our stay--responsive, friendly, and true to what they advertise. An en suite master bath and more comfy master bed would make this a 5 star property. But don't miss a chance for a short stay in this charming apartment with thoughtful hosts, spacious layout, and great location. The Wicker Park neighborhood is fun to walk through and a good place to shop and eat, and the price is right to be so close to downtown.

Owner's Response: Hi Leah, We're sorry to hear that the bed was not up to your liking, it is a new mattress and was hard to decide between firm or soft. We felt going middle of the road would satisfy more guests. We are unlikely to ever be able to put in an en suite bathroom as you suggested, or else we'd have to raise our prices. :-)

Good location, very nice and in good condition

  • 3 of 5

The flat is in an excellent location to use public transit which is good in view of Chicago traffic. There was no problem parking on the street in front of the flat and just leaving our car. All the necessary items for a comfortable stay, flat screen TV, cooking utensils, dishes, glasses were there. The A/C worked fine on the hot days and there was plenty of hot water. The only real negatives were the double bed in the master bedroom that was wall to wall and the very steep outside metal stairs leading to the flat.

Owner's Response: Thank you for your review. I hope the couple of steps in the front was not too hard for your and your wife to handle during your stay. Admittingly, the two steps you're referring to are tough for our older guest. Thank you for your feedback and we hope to address it soon.

Very clean crisp and new. Location great for our yoga retreat. Train noise was no problem.

Very clean and fresh. We'll equipped bathroom with anything you might possibly forget. We prepared one dinner and would recommend a larger salad bowl and cooking pot for say pasta. Train did not bother us sleeping. Great location for our yoga retreat at Zen Garage.

Great place, great service!

  • 5 of 5

Great experience, great property! The property was exactly as advertized, convenient to O'Hare, clean, comfortable, and exactly what we needed.

Alyssa could not have been more helpful. Parking, early check in, neighborhood recommendations - she could not have been more pleasant or more helpful.

Would definitely stay here again.

Well-furnished, convenient home-away-from-home

  • 5 of 5

My wife and I stayed here during a mini-vacation to Chicago in October 2015--our first vacation away from home with our 15-month old son. We chose VRBO over picking a hotel downtown closer to the attractions so we could have a separate bedroom for his naps and bedtime. We didn't regret it for a moment; for the same cost as a so-called "suite" room downtown, we were able to get two bedrooms, a fully-furnished kitchen, and a comfortable living room as well.

I've stayed in many rentals/extended-stay hotels, and this was by far the most functionally-furnished. We fixed breakfast every morning and several meals in the evening, and we always found what we needed; The fridge had condiments, and there were coffee filters in the cabinet, etc. The furnishings were comfortable and reasonable.

The owners of this property responded quickly to questions, and at every point along the transaction, we never felt they were hard to get in touch with.

Probably the biggest thing we appreciated was the proximity to the Metro blue-line; we could walk there in minutes, so travel into the city and back was super-easy. About the train: 1. Yes, you will hear it regularly. 2. It's not a big deal. Not once did we notice it disturbing our son's sleep.

The hardwood floors are beautiful, but they did tend to squeak quite a bit. This made us a bit self-conscious about making too much noise (the owners live in the floor below), but perhaps I was already a bit sensitive to my son constantly dropping/throwing his toys down and making noise. From our perspective, we never heard any noise from downstairs or the apartment upstairs, and they never mentioned that we made too much noise either.

The two bedrooms are on the small-ish size compared to what we were used to (the master bed is placed in a nook where both sleepers have to climb in from the same side), but the beds were comfortable, and there was plenty of closet space.

Parking was immediately on the street, and aside from having to apply daily parking passes (graciously provided by the owners) and move the car periodically for seasonal leaf removal, we parked the car and never had to get it out again.

We walked the 606/Bloomingdale Trail (a short one-block walk from the apartment) and we wished we had tried it earlier; the elevated trail provides a neat opportunity to see and get a feel of the neighborhood while avoiding traffic. It was well-traveled and felt safe during the hours we used it.

1 block away is the Blue Line to O’Hare & the Loop, Zipcar, Enterprise & Divvy Bike rental. Centrally located in Wicker Park/Bucktown, known for its night life & eclectic shopping.

June 6 was the grand opening of the Bloomingdale Trail, a multi-use linear park that will be the first of its kind in Chicago. The trail and park runs along an unused, elevated rail line along Bloomingdale Avenue. Stretching 2.7 miles through four vibrant Chicago northwest side neighborhoods.

Swanky nightclubs, upscale restaurants, and nationally- recognizable specialty clothing stores like American Apparel have transformed Wicker Park into arguably Chicago’s trendiest neighborhood. Many musicians and starving artists who once flocked to Wicker Park have since relocated to more affordable parts of town, but remnants of its history as an artist’s haven remain.

The contrast between Wicker Park’s charming original buildings and the establishments that occupy them are noticeable. A Potbelly Sandwich Works (1623 N. Damen) in an old fire house, Zen Noodles & Sushi (1852 W. North) in a vintage brick two-flat. While the fusion is anything but seamless, the availability of any and every cuisine, shop, and service gives the whole neighborhood a never-sleeps, almost Manhattan-like bustle.

Wicker Park may have traded traditional for trendy, but Bucktown remains true to its roots as a working class community with affordable residences that appeal to less affluent artists and young professionals. Thought to have been named Bucktown for its time as a goat-farming community (a “buck” is a young male goat), this growing neighborhood was initially settled by Poles in the early 1830s. Germans, Jews, and Latin Americans would soon follow, lending to the overwhelming appreciation for diversity evident in Bucktown today.
