About Flora Sanchez

My husband Sam and I were both born and raised in Albuquerque. We bought this 8 acre property in 1982. We built our home and raised our two children here. Eventually we deeded an acre to each of the children; they built their homes here and are raising our grandkids next door. Friends and family call it 'the Sanchez village'. Over time we've added several structures to the estate, most recently the recreation building (which houses the Casita along with Sam's wood shop, the RV garage, and a small gym) and the family capilla or chapel. We raise grass hay and Boer goats on the back pasture, an open space that attracts hundreds of cranes and geese here in the winter. A farmer coop will soon begin planting organic vegetables and building a hoop house to extend the growing season.

Flora Sanchez purchased this apartment in 1982

Why Flora Sanchez chose New Mexico

Sam and I are both retired and have enjoyed sharing our guest room with friends and family. After our granddaughter moved into her own home we converted her transition living space to a rental and look forward to welcoming new friends to this place.

What makes this apartment unique

Everyone who visits this property comments about how beautiful and quiet it is. The property's east boundary is a cottonwood forest that borders the Rio Grande. A 1/4 mi walk will take you to the banks of the Rio Grande River where you can enjoy the wildlife, especially birds being drawn to the Valle del Oro National Wildlife Refuge directly across the river. Walking trails connect you to three open space properties within 1 mile radius, including the historic Gutierrez Hubbell House History and Cultural Center just 1/4 mi south. We are right on the original Route 66.

When ready to see more of the city an easy 7 mi drive will take you to downtown ABQ and Old Town. Balloon Fiesta Park is just another 7 mi north. Santa Fe is a quick one hour's drive as is Acoma (Sky City) Pueblo. At the end of a long day of sightseeing you'll enjoy returning to your quiet, restful abode for a soak in the hot tub, a moonlight swim, or just a cup of coffee on your own patio.

a little peace of paradise

  • 5 of 5

Immaculately clean and peaceful casita that had everything we needed (washer and dryer, and sleep number bed were a real bonus). The owners also gave us a warm welcome, and useful information on what to do in and around Albuquerque, as well as services in the area. My husband and I really enjoyed visiting with the animals in the pasture, watching the many birds fly over from the nearby nature reserve, just hanging out in the casita, and the nice sunsets and sunrises too!

A great week at a wonderful rental!

  • 4 of 5

My husband and I stayed for a week at Casita de Colores and it was wonderful! Flora and Sam were gracious hosts and their property was lovely! Quiet and removed from the city but easy access to all the sights and things to do. Very close to the airport which was great! We 100% recommend staying at this well equipped, comfortable apartment!

Quaint casita close to town but in a pretty rural setting, just as shown in the photos. Thank you Flora for hosting us.

A quiet space close to the city

  • 5 of 5

The casita was comfortable-perfect little kitchen, comfortable bed, great shower. The setting was quiet with benches for reading. Flora and her husband Sam were gracious hosts. Because it was a holiday weekend, they were gone quite a bit, but any questions I had, I could contact Flora via text, or her son was available next door. The great thing about this property was how close it was to the city attractions, yet one feels far removed from the hustle of the city. I will definitely stay there again.

A little treasure

  • 4 of 5

This quaint little Casita is a perfect escape from hotel travel. The property is beautiful and Sam and Flora were perfect hosts. I was injured when I arrived, so they graciously helped bring my personal belongings up the stairs. It was a treat to look out the wall of windows and watch the neighbor's horse grazing each morning and I certainly would have liked more time to rest in their tranquil homestead but alas, this was a business trip for me. Thank you both, I'll be back!
