Why Paul Kirkman chose Remer
We're really excited to offer this Guesthouse for rent. Originally we remodeled the property (originally built as a caretaker's residence for the main cabin) to use as overflow housing when entertaining family and friends. Upon completion we realized that we could rent it out when it wasn't in use for our own guests. The home is spotless, has NO musty smell, and is a thoroughly modern facility. We're adjacent to snowmobile trails, ATV trails, and near cross country ski trails and reasonably close to the Cuyuna Range mountain bike trails in Crosby/Ironton. The Guesthouse is also a great base camp for hunting (grouse, turkey, deer) and the fishing in Bass Lake can be spectacular.
What makes this House unique
The Guesthouse has a propane-fueled potbelly stove, central air conditioning, a screened in porch (perfect for outdoor dining), a huge fire pit, and a dock in the water in the summertime. It's clean, doesn't have the typical musty smell of a cabin, and we're dog friendly.

A Perfect Location
We really enjoyed our stay at Pauls' Guesthouse. Everything was as described. The view of the lake was fantastic. The house had everything we needed for relaxing and cooking a few meals.
We had a wonderful time and plan on returning when possible. We also enjoyed visiting the owners’ new novelty store in Crosby. Best ice cream
I’ve ever had!!! Owners are wonderfully accommodating.
private and pet friendly
Our 2 week stay at Pauls' Guest House was exceptional! The gift basket was greatly appreciated and the custom cloth map of Big Bass Lake is a nice memento of our stay. Paul was quick to help with any questions/instructions. The location was ideal for our 2 labs. It was private, quiet and no traffic. Would stay here again.
beautful in july
just what we were looking for enough space so we did'nt get in anyones way and they did'nt interfear in ours, beautiful weather,
just wish there would have been more big fish....
Wonderful stay at Pauls' Guesthouse
Our group of 6 had a wonderful stay at Pauls' Guesthouse for our early summer fishing trip vacation. The well-maintained property was perfect for us to enjoy time indoors and outdoors. We utlizied the public boat launch on the lake and moored our fishing boat at the dock near the guest house. The guesthouse was fully stocked with all the supplies and equipment we needed (aside from our own food, etc.) It was clean and comfortable. Fishing on Big Bass Lake was a bit hit or miss (we did catch some "keepers" though) but that's more dependent on mother nature than Paul!
While we only interacted with Paul for a few minutes on our last day, he was responsive to our messages before our trip and was always accessible if we needed anything.
We normally stay at resorts when vacationing in Northern MN... There were a couple amenities we missed during our stay at Pauls' Guesthouse that we normally have at a resort: convenient waste collection near the house (garbage and recycling) and a dedicated spot for fish cleaning (even outdoors is OK). These were minor inconveniences and didn't affect our overall satisfaction, but they're ideas for improvement.
Overall we were quite satisfied with our stay and I would absolutely recommend Pauls' Guesthouse!
Home was clean property needs some attention. Wet Leaves and weeds around cabin rear door entrance needs to be cleaned as the mosquitoes carried us away, warped screen door allowed mosquitoes to get inside very uncomfortable. Steps to dock need to be reworked potential injury and very slippery when wet.
Fishing from dock was okay caught some northerens and A few Bass, and lots of sunnies if you like sunnies. All in all it was okay but for me the lake was to small and there is no dock at the public landing so getting your boat in and out is somewhat of a chore for one person.
The owners were very receptive and the welcome package was greatly appreciated. Thanks for everything.
The Guesthouse is situated on the main peninsula of pristine Big Bass Lake in southeast Cass County, approximately 150 miles (about three hours) north of the Twin Cities. The setting is perfect for a week-long get-away, with numerous activities at your disposal. With natural shorelines and mature pine trees, Big Bass Lake is great for fishing and pontooning and we're located in Land O' Lakes State Forest with easy access to snowmobile and ATV trails. Great golf courses can be found in nearby Emily or 50 Lakes. New mountain biking trails have been established in Cuyuna. There is great shopping available in nearby towns. Crosby has numerous antique stores and the boutiques are fabulous in Nisswa, Pequot Lakes and Crosslake; all are located within an hour of the Guesthouse. Nearby towns offer great dining opportunities and local bars. The setting is entirely private and the lake is serene.
