Pauls’ Guesthouse is a fully-renovated & newly furnished 1980’s split level home situated on pristine Big Bass Lake, located approximately six miles north of Outing, MN in southeastern Cass County (approximately 150 miles or three hours north of the Twin Cities). Bass Lake is a stunning mid-sized lake, with amazing 20-foot water clarity; it consists of three main bays with virtually all shoreline being fully natural with mature white and red pines reaching down to water’s edge. The lake has public access & is perfect for pontooning & fishing. The Guesthouse sits on 2.5 acres and is located across the mid-section of the lake’s main peninsula; it is a private setting with no sightlines to surrounding cabins. The location is ideal – the Guesthouse is situated in Land O’ Lakes State Forest with immediate access to snowmobile trails in the winter & ATV trails during the remainder of the year.

Accommodations: The trail system offers routes to bars and restaurants in nearby towns including Emily, Outing, Remer and Longville.

The Guesthouse comfortably sleeps six to eight people. It has three bedrooms and a large bathroom with walk-in shower on the upper level. Two bedrooms have queen-sized beds and the third has two twin beds; all are nicely appointed. The lower level consists of the kitchen, living room (with queen-sized sofa sleeper), dining room, laundry facility, half bath, and there is access to the attached garage. The Guesthouse was completely renovated in 2011 and all appliances and furnishings are new. This is a non-smoking facility. Pets will be considered on a case-by-case basis.

Ammenities: Amenities include a gas-fired potbellied stove in the living room, central air conditioning, dual hot water tanks, phone, wireless Internet, flat-screened TV with a full range of cable and local channels, screened porch with picnic table, propane BBQ grill, fire pit with lounge chairs, and a 16’ dock. The Guesthouse kitchen is fully furnished for all of your cooking needs.

Fire pit, free firewood (local), dock, nearby boat or pontoon rental with delivery, surrounded by Land O' Lakes State Forest with access to ATV and snowmobile trails, large bathroom with walk-in shower, cabin fully renovated in 2011, newly furnished in 2011, completely private with no sightlines to other cabins, located on peninsula with water on two sides, quiet non-party lake, lake has 20-foot water clarity, great fishing, no invasive species.

Attractions: For your convenience, the local marina (Land O’ Lakes Marine in Outing) rents pontoons, fishing boats and speed boats. Rentals range from daily to weekly and they’ll deliver the boat to the dock prior to your arrival. Also, there are several favorite local restaurants to sample: The Village Inn in Outing (great full menu), The Deer Haven Supper Club (great for walleye and ribs), and The Anchorage Inn on Lake Inguadona (great for homemade pizza). Shop the shops and boutiques in nearly Longville, Emily, Crosby, Crosslake, Pequot Lakes and Nisswa; all are located within an hour of the Guesthouse.

About Paul Kirkman

Paul & I are full-time residents in the adjacent property. I own Itasca Leathergoods, a leather company that manufactures handcrafted moccasins, handbags, belts, and other assorted leather goods. Our manufacturing facility is nearby and we operate a retail store in nearby Crosslake MN, among others. Paul V is an IT director of a small software development company and works remotely from home.

Why Paul Kirkman chose Minnesota

We're really excited to offer this Guesthouse for rent. Originally we remodeled the property (originally built as a caretaker's residence for the main cabin) to use as overflow housing when entertaining family and friends. Upon completion we realized that we could rent it out when it wasn't in use for our own guests.

The home is spotless, has NO musty smell, and is a thoroughly modern facility.

We're adjacent to snowmobile trails, ATV trails, and near cross country ski trails and reasonably close to the Cuyuna Range mountain bike trails in Crosby/Ironton. The Guesthouse is also a great base camp for hunting (grouse, turkey, deer) and the fishing in Bass Lake can be spectacular.

What makes this house unique

The Guesthouse has a propane-fueled potbelly stove, central air conditioning, a screened in porch (perfect for outdoor dining), a huge fire pit, and a dock in the water in the summertime. It's clean, doesn't have the typical musty smell of a cabin, and we're dog friendly.

Wonderful, relaxing and great hospitality!

This guest house has everything you need! Felt like your far back in the woods but your not too far from main road. Really nice house with all the accommodations. Bonfires at nights and 4-wheeled during the day. We did get to meet Paul V. Which was great to meet the owners. He showed my brothers where we could catch atv trails. That was awesome. Thank you for everything and we will definitely be back!

A week of relaxation

The property on Bass Lake is amazing!! We had a wonderful time enjoying the end of summer weather, relaxing by the lake, enjoying a nice campfire at sunset. The Pauls have done a great job with the updates, providing a nice, welcoming cabin, and being available if you need any assistance. I would highly recommend this spot if you are looking for a nice relaxing getaway.

Wonderful Week

Absolutely wonderful week at Pauls' guesthouse. The house was better than depicted with modern amenities and up north charm. Very clean and very private. Access to the dock and lake is only steps away. Highly recommend Kirk and Bryce at Land O' Lakes marine for any boating needs. The owners of this property are amazing. Very prompt with correspondence and extremely generous. I don't have the space here to thank them for all they did for us but we are extremely grateful. Had never been to Minnesota before and did not know what to expect. If the people of this area are indicative of Minnesota as a whole then I will count this state as one of my favorites. Friendly, courteous and genuinely happy people were the majority. Thank you Paul and Paul for a week we will not soon forget. Love to the handsome Gunde.

We enjoyed our stay at Pauls' Guesthouse. The house was very clean and modern, and everything was represented as stated online. We have rented many homes in the past years for our annual family summer vacation, and I tend to be quite picky. I would not hesitate to book this property. The Guesthouse is situated on the main peninsula of pristine Big Bass Lake in southeast Cass County, approximately 150 miles (about three hours) north of the Twin Cities. The setting is perfect for a week-long get-away, with numerous activities at your disposal. With natural shorelines and mature pine trees, Big Bass Lake is great for fishing and pontooning and we're located in Land O' Lakes State Forest with easy access to snowmobile and ATV trails. Great golf courses can be found in nearby Emily or 50 Lakes. New mountain biking trails have been established in Cuyuna. There is great shopping available in nearby towns. Crosby has numerous antique stores and the boutiques are fabulous in Nisswa, Pequot Lakes and Crosslake; all are located within an hour of the Guesthouse. Nearby towns offer great dining opportunities and local bars. The setting is entirely private and the lake is serene.

The Guesthouse has easy accessibility to snowmobile and ATV trails. Pontoon and boat rental is handled by Land O' Lakes Marine in nearby Outing. Great antique shopping can be found in Crosby. Great boutiques and shopping is available in Crosslake, Nisswa and Pequot Lakes, all available within a one-hour drive of the Guesthouse. Pets may be permitted with advance approval. No puppies or poorly behaved dogs. Dogs must be house trained. There is an additional deposit due plus a fee per dog. All dog waste must be cleaned up. Absolutely no smoking allowed in the Guesthouse. Primary renter under age 25 must be approved prior to making reservations.
