Bright, airy and beautifully appointed 3 bed, 3 bath single family home in the heart of quintessential New England. Stroll to world class dining and shopping in Chester Village or just keep strolling to the sounds of the town's many creeks and waterfalls. Chester is beautiful year round! Go antiquing, take the ferry across the river to Gillette Castle, paddle around Cedar Lake or go hiking in the Cockaponset Forest.
15 minutes down the road from Middletown and 10 minutes from the CT shoreline.
We were very happy with this property. The house is well maintained and clean. The open kitchen/dining/living area was well appointed and let in plenty of sunshine. It felt very private. It is not a typical New England house. It was perfect for us as we tend to favor contemporary homes.
We were unsure about what, if any, supplies we needed for the kitchen. There was no dish soap or dishwasher detergent. Also, no extra trash bags. Not really an issue. If we were staying long term we would have bought some. We borrowed from relatives we were visiting. Dishes, pots and pans, etc. were well supplied.
There were 3 bedrooms with good sized closets: master bedroom with king bed and en suite bathroom on the second floor; 2 bedrooms on the first level with a shared bathroom between. One bedroom has a queen bed. The other has a twin with a pull out, which we was great once we figured it out.
The property indicates sleeping for 7 but we are unsure where the 7th person would sleep. There are many sofas but none appear to convert to a bed.
The owner provided good customer service.
We would definitely recommend this property and would love to rent it again if the opportunity arises.
Very spacious and comfortable house in a beautiful, wooded and peaceful setting near "downtown" Chester. The kitchen seemed quite well-equipped with utensils, dishes, and particularly with lots of pots and pans. It was roomy and well laid out and looked like it would be easy to prepare meals there. Nice dining area. We only stayed for two nights, though, and took advantage of two Chester restaurants (Rustica and River Tavern) for dinner and breakfasts at The Villager. The master bedroom is upstairs and is huge; king bed was quite comfortable. Very large closets for your things. Lighting in the shower room could be brighter and you need to bring your own shower gel/soap. There is a separate loft area upstairs with a couch and a large TV (we didn't try it). You do also have to go up stairs to get into the house. The owner, Elizabeth, was always prompt in responding to my questions when making the reservation. We also had a couple of questions when we were in the house and she again responded very quickly. It's nice to know that someone will get back to you right away.
Chester is a lovely town and a good base for visiting the southern Connecticut River valley or the shore towns. This house would be good for a family with older children or perhaps two couples. Lots of space and several seating areas for conversation, reading, etc. Would definitely recommend Elizabeth's house.
We had a great stay in Chester. The house was convenient to the Essex Trains (we were in town with 2 3-year olds), and a 35 minute drive to Mystic Seaport. House was beautiful, well-kept, clean, and super comfortable for our group of 4 adults and 2 kids. The owner was very responsive and helpful with local suggestions, etc. Wish we could have stayed longer!
Pro: house is nice, quiet neighborhood
Cons: we came in finding several items left over from previous renter, Apple TV was missing, gas grill was low, among other small issue, which we ignored. Then, the property manager shown up un-announced and did not wait for us to answer the door, before she stormed in. It was until after we checked out, the owner called and complaint about all the stuffs that I mentioned above (personal item left over, TV would not work, remote control missing). I must admitted, we forgot one (1) kitchen chair outside on the patio. Most interesting, I can heard she slamed the phone off after telling me that I left too many trash bags in front of the garage. I wished I could ask her: "where will I put them, in the wood ?" but was not given a chance. Anyway, it was totally unprofessional. Let not forget, the rent includes the extra charges for clean up + insurance. If all trash was collected and placed neathly in front of the garage where they supposed to be, and consider "unacceptable" according to the owner, then I honestly suggest the next guest to bring your own trash bag and prepare to load trash in your car as you made your way out.
Other than the said above, the property and local Chester village is wonderful. I could have given 5* if it wasn't the phone slammed.
This house worked great as a Chester/Conn River Valley vacation home. It is very close to the village center with some amazing restaurants, nice shops, good farmers market. We visited state parks with lakes and hiking, Essex, Gillet Castle. The house is very roomy and comfortable - larger than the pictures look. It is in a quiet residential area. Overall it was a good choice for our family.
