About the property

Come sleep in the Trees! Cabin 1, Mockingbird Lodge

The moment you arrive at our property and see the enormous eighty foot cypress trees with decades old wild mustang grapevines hanging from their limbs, and a 100’ footbridge that takes you safely across the seasonal creek to your private tree house, you realize you are in a special place.

“Wait a minute, did you say a treehouse?” many people ask. Yes, but this is not your childhood plywood fort of days gone by. Our treehouses are newly constructed, engineered custom cabins with all the conveniences of modern living including air conditioning/heat, wi-fi, satellite TV, kitchen and bathroom.

Picture your own custom cabin, with attached private deck and an open living, dining area and kitchen with a loft above and a master suite attached and a fully functioning bathroom with a walk in shower. The treehouses are actually attached to the large hardwood trees that run along a seasonal creek, which lend to the picturesque setting that will give you an overall exhilarating experience.

We are very fortunate to be located near a very beautiful section of the Guadalupe River on River Road between New Braunfels and Canyon Lake. Though not right on the river, our cabins sit over the seasonal dry creek bed and have 400 feet of river access across River Road with hammocks, picnic tables, fire pits and chairs for your use as well as a nice grassy area to hang out, wade in the water or tube.

Also be aware for those guests staying in the lofts upstairs, our cabins are custom built around the trees, to decrease the weight of the structure, we used spiral staircases to the loft which can be a bit narrow, but it is part of the charm of our treehouse cabins.

Since we are so centrally located, you will be able to easily access and enjoy many of the best places the Texas Hill Country has to offer including river access from our property, Canyon Lake (a boat ramp is only minutes away), Whitewater Amphitheater, River Road Icehouse, Koozies, historic Gruene Hall, Schlitterbahn and the many attractions New Braunfels has to offer, which is 11 miles from the treehouses.

Many of our guests come here to tube and enjoy the Guadalupe River and take advantage of the ease in which they can access and enjoy the river by simply walking across River Rd. to the river access. By taking a shuttle up river and simply floating back down to the river access, you can tube with your group very easily!

**KAYAKS and TUBES ARE NOT included, but can be rented at nearby outfitters. After a long day of tubing and river fun many of our guests enjoy relaxing and barbecuing along the banks of the river recounting the day’s excitement. Afterwards you can enjoy the nightlife and many live music venues nearby or simply hang out with your family and friends on your private treehouse deck.

After a day or two of tubing and river fun, many guests change pace and rent a deck or ski boat at Canyon Lake or go to New Braunfels to enjoy Schlitterbahn Waterpark. When your group is ready for shopping, Gruene Market Days or the San Marcos Outlet Malls are only short drives away.

While all of these activities described above are the main reasons many of our guests come to stay, others simply come for a quick escape from the city to recharge their batteries and enjoy the relaxing sounds of the croaking frogs or chirping crickets at night as they watch for shooting stars in the starlit sky. Whether you are looking for adventure or relaxation, you will find it here.

Come for a romantic weekend getaway or try your hand in the blue ribbon trout fishing on the Guadalupe. Our property is located next to the spot on the river where they often times stock the trout which makes it a great place to fish! You can wade the river yourself or hire a fly-fishing guide to take you down the river in a raft or fishing boat.

About Best Texas Travel Representative

This property is managed by Best Texas Travel which is a locally owned, small business who deeply cares about our guest’s comfort and over-all experience. We know you are here to relax and have a good time, so we strive to make each of our guest’s stays as enjoyable and hassle free as possible. Should you have any questions or need anything, please do not hesitate to call or e-mail us. We look forward to your stay with us!

Why Best Texas Travel Representative chose Texas Hill Country

We initially found this property while we were enjoying the beautiful drive along River Rd. Though originally vacant, we absolutely fell in love with this piece of land which had huge trees and really good river access. After thinking for some time about what we could do with the property, the idea came to us to build treehouses in the majestic hardwood, cypress and pecan trees that lined the creek taking advantage of the beautiful canopy view this property possessed.

Shortly thereafter, we began researching treehouse building techniques and were amazed at all the information we found (there is actually a treehouse builders organization as well as people who make and sell specific tree house hardware.) After much planning and engineering we began building our treehouses in the winter of 2010 and finished at the end of July, 2010. We love this property because of the way in which the tree-houses are set and nestled in the trees and the convenience to all the fun activities and venues the area has to offer.

What makes this cabin unique

This is to our knowledge the only treehouse rental complex in the area. You will absolutely enjoy staying here among the tall cypress and pecan trees. The creek is seasonal, though it typically runs of the year (as long as we get rain every 3-4 weeks) and is very soothing to listen to. It is so pretty and our river access is fantastic! We invite our friends over often and try to stay as much as possible ourselves.

Guestbook comments from the manager

Our parents were in town from Lousianna and we wanted to show them New Braunfels and the surrounding area and didn't want to stay at a typical hotel/motel you can stay at anywhere. We were so excited when we found your place. Being "treehouses" we were concerened at first bringing our small kids but as you said the place is very kid freindly and safe with all the handrails. We enjoyed staying up late at night on the deck watching the shooting stars and my dad had a great time taking the kids for wagon rides around the bridges. We'll tell all of our friends about you. Thanks for a great stay.

Reviewer Comments:

-Management was kind of difficult to get a hold of, but they were flexible about the possibility of rescheduling our stay when Hurricane Harvey hit. Thankfully we were able to still make it -Overall, the house was clean and stocked with everything we expected -The property was in fairly good condition. The door handle on the front door was a little loose/unstable and the shower door was very hard to open/close. -The house looked bigger in the photos than in person, but it was fine for our group of 5. I would not recommend trying to sleep more than 5-6 people in this house. -It was convenient that the house was close to parking -Check in/check out was very easy

Reviewer Comments:

Very disappointed in the Mockingbird Lodge, the front door knob is about to fall off, the stairs are very unsafe, floors were not swept, balcony was dirty including the table which we swept and cleaned, WiFi was a joke, had no TV even tho we called for helped to see if someone to help us resolved, didn't work. Also, has a broken sewer line, we saw it coming out and down to the creek, when we sat on balcony the smell was awful. Maintenance issues through out the house. The view was amazing, very peaceful place. Acess to the river was very close.

This was a very nice place to stay. It was clean & well equiped with extra supplies. I love how close we were to the river & that we could park right by our cabin. A/C was super cold. The only thing that needed repair was the back door going to the patio would not close very well .

Disappointed Is Putting It Mildly

Reviewer Comments:

Not what the pictures showed AT ALL. AC was out had one small window unit downstairs for cooling the downstair and loft where my 80 yr old grandmother and my mother were to be sleeping. Dirty towels and gross shower. Dirty/none existance basic cookware. No way to float out from our river front as advertised. No kayaks or tubes availible as advertised in the pictures. They tried to make things better the last day of our stay by making the grounds keeper bring us borritos and cookware (that was so cheap it burned the nonstick coating off into our food making spaghetti that night.) The maintaince guys showed up to replace the AC after lunch the last full day of our stay. A partial refund, which would of been the best way to handle these problems, was not offered. Super big waste of our hard earned money. Disappointed doesn't begin to cover the way I felt.

Reviewer Comments:

This is a beautiful and unique property. Very close to the river. Peaceful environment. Only issue was AC in master BR was not cooling well. We called & maintenance said we dropped the thermostat too low and the unit froze up but we only decreased the thermostat in increments because it was not cooling. That night we did not drop it below 72 but it still did not cool well. It was ok with the bedroom door open. The unit is well equipped with beautiful views.
