First, this is not a 5 star, this is a 10 star property!
We have had the good fortune in our line of work to be hosted at stunning locations, and I can say that you would have to travel far and wide to find an island in the Northeast that could rival Davis Island. Of course, it is not just the stunning physical setting, but all of the attention to detail that Linda and her team put into the property that makes it so special. From the start of your visit, as noted in other reviews, you will be treated with warmth and gracious hospitality by Veronika and your captain, Dennis. They will bring you out and back to Port Clyde as your schedule allows, and of course dependent on the weather, as they are extremely accommodating and prudent. We invited another couple to join us for a weekend that spanned the July 4th holiday, and I don't think I could ever have imagined how beautiful it would be to have the opportunity to watch the sun rise and set from the top of the 360. It was stunning! If that were not enough, we later watched two campaigns of fireworks all over the horizon, starting around 9 pm and tapering off until more fireworks began at 10 pm. It was unforgettable! So, you may wonder how you would fare on an island. My husband and I found the first few days flew by, as we enjoyed the views, walks, hot tub, where we spent a fair amount of time just relaxing, reading, and enjoying many of the activities, especially a very large, 1,500 piece puzzle. Our friends included an artist in the couple, and so we definitely planned to take them to Monhegan, which was a wonderful trip made possible by Dennis and his first mate, Zoe. We left Davis Island in time to take the 10:30 Monhegan Ferry and returned from Monhegan on the 4:30, in time to meet Dennis back in Port Clyde. Another stunning trip off the Island was our visit to Port Clyde itself, to explore the Wyeth Gallery, sample the local foods, coffee, and ice cream all in close proximity to the Dock, pick up provisions at the General Store, before heading off with Port Clyde Kayaks to tour all of the sights of the harbor, including the Marshall Point Light House, N.C. Wyeth's home and studio, Eight Bells, and Teel Island, where he often painted. The entire week at Davis Island could not have been more magical. The house is beautifully appointed, with every comfort and piece of equipment you could imagine. We cook memorable meals that we enjoyed both inside and out, and we too loved sampling all of the L.L. Bean balsam soaps and on the 4th of July
Best parts of my stay: Rayette and Captain Dennis, who shipped us back and forth to Davis Island on the lobster boat...they were so kind and extremely helpful; sundown in the hot tub watching the fishing boats go by; morning on the back deck watching the sail boats and sea gulls; playing backgammon in the Widow's Walk; watching the hummingbirds eat breakfast.
Thank you for staying with us! We hope to have you back in the future!
Perfect Family Retreat!
I wanted to take a moment to share with you how very much pleased we were with our stay at your 360 Hideaway Property.
From our first contact with Veronika, she was very helpful, thoughtful and concerned about our family’s needs. It was clear that she wanted to make sure that our stay was special. She stayed in touch either by phone or e-mail and always responded very quickly.
When we arrived in Port Clyde, we appreciated that Veronika was there to greet us, introduce us to Ferry Captain Dennis and Ray Ann. We were also impressed that she personally took us to the Home to make sure that we were aware of all of the amenities and introduce us to our Chef, Mike.
The home itself is absolutely gorgeous! Well thought out, spacious, extremely clean and manicured inside and out. The fireplace and spiral staircase to the 360 lookout is stunning! Attention to detail was displayed from the appliances, furniture, bedding, bathroom towels, all the way through to the LL Bean delightful soap products.
The food and preparation was “over the top !”
Our Family also enjoyed all of the puzzles and indoor and outdoor games. Never once did our family watch any television nor were we troubled with any outside negative news. It was truly a get-a-way!
Please share our extreme satisfaction with Mike, Dennis and Ray Ann. They all were sincere, kind, helpful and a pleasure to get to know.
We hope to visit again in the future!
