The Old Channel Beach House is a single level home featuring 5 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms. A total house remodel and renovation in 2015 included a new kitchen including new appliances, new and upgraded bathrooms, all new furniture (including beds, pillows and linens) and the building of outside view decks off the house and near the beach. New cedar shake siding also installed. The house sits on a secluded 2 acre low bluff lot that leads down to a private beach with 200 feet of frontage on Lake Michigan. A short walk south of the property takes you to the White Lake Channel as well as access to White lake. There is an available boat slip nearby which is shared by two rental properties (includes The Pier House, sister property one lot north, reference HomeAway #3684605 for description and reviews).
The recreational amenities of The Beach House includes 5 kayaks and 2 paddle boards which can be used on both lakes for water fun. Plenty of beach chairs are provided along with life preservers and beach toys for the children. A few bikes are available as well to explore the area.
In summary, the setting of The Beach House is unique which makes for the perfect get away for your summer family vacation.

Truly 5 Star accommodations!!
The owners, Stan and Linda along with their Interior Designer, have spared no expense to create this magnificent beach house located on the white sugar sand shores and gorgeous sunsets of Lake Michigan. The views of the lake were breathtaking from both inside and also on the various decks surrounding the house as well as on the two dune overlook platforms. The décor of the of the home definitely caters to the most discerning tastes with its top of the line furnishings, appliances, kitchenware, flooring, lighting, fixtures, linens and bedding while still maintaining a comfortable feel and atmosphere for all to enjoy. My family and I (9 Adults) were amazed at their attention to detail in every aspect of the property inside and out. The beach boxes contained Nautica Beach chairs for relaxing on the beach as well as toys to build a sandcastle and life vests for the boogie boards, standing paddle boards and kayaks. We could not want for anything inside or out....it was all provided! However, if there was a possibility of us needing something, Stan & his assistant Scott were readily available to help. My family and I have NEVER experienced such genuine hospitality and service at a vacation rental property. We would absolutely come back!
Stan & Linda, you were 5 Star Hosts! Thank you very much for sharing your most beautiful and well appointed beach property in paradise!
We absolutely loved staying at the Beach House. The views of Lake Michigan from the multiples porches and the huge kitchen were great. The private beach area was clean and sandy, and very well stocked with kayaks, stand up paddleboards, and life vests. Getting to the beach required ~100 yds up and down the hill; much easier than most properties. Everything was well appointed and stocked. Stan was very responsive to any questions or requests that we had and was a pleasure to work with in all regards.
Our party of 11 easily fit into the 5 bedroom arrangement (1 master, 2 larger and 2 smaller). The huge kitchen with lake exposure was a popular gathering place. Other amenities included modern appliances, dedicated fire pit, and access to multiple bikes. The property exceeded our expectations relative to the pictures we had seen. We really can't say enough good things about the property, owner, and the time we spent there.
We stayed here last summer with women and children, a family in each of the five bedrooms. Everything was perfect and we had a wonderful time.
This year we came up with moms, dads, kids, and a really cool aunt. Things were even better! It was the addition of perks that surprised us, like a disc golf thingy, more kayaks, an outlook, a new high top table outdoors, new furniture in spots, a darling garden, and a friendly flock of flamingos!
Last year every single thing was provided and all we did was buy food to eat. This year was the same and even better because my sister and I got to amaze our family with everything that Stan and Linda think of. You name it, they provide it. If it gets broken, it gets fixed immediately. If you use it, like the firewood, Stan comes in like a ninja and restocks it.
With five bedrooms, four baths (3 ensuite), an enormous great room/kitchen (a chef's dream), a family room and two large decks with tons of seating, there is room for 12 to rattle around in the house and not get on anyone else's nerves for a week! Everything is appointed with taste, and everything is fresh and new.
Don't forget the state of the art washer/dryer on the first floor, and the clothesline on the back deck! And the opportunity to recycle - which makes me so happy!
You just cannot go wrong staying with Stan and Linda.
And as to location - as I said last year, the cottage/house/retreat is located in the perfect spot. We walked to the pier, we put a wave runner in at the Medberry ramp next to the pier, we biked the roads/trails. We did leave, but once you've got food, you really don't need to leave the house for a week!
It is close to town for Dogs n Suds, boutique/souvenir shopping, Pekadills garden restaurant, Palmers Blueberries, Duck Lake beach - those are our favorites. The movie theater has new seats, fyi, and is very cute. The Howmet Theater in town has live shows throughout the summer.
We do travel a lot using the house as our base. Mostly family friendly activities - we went to Silver Lake, New Era, Muskegon and Grand Haven - each has activities we did from 9-12, then lunch, then back to the cottage to do the beach till 9pm, supper and then bed by 11pm. Note: Double JJ Ranch has a rodeo/pig roast on Saturday night. Luge/archery at Muskegon Winter Sports Complex 6yrs and up.
Things to bring: inflatable floats, electric inflater, box of kleenex, swimsuits, food. EVERYTHING else is provided. Enjoy!!!
The house was perfect. Everything was fresh and the kitchen was super maxed out. We had our wine in one frig and kids had their beer in the other, and that was just the little frigs. The beach and toys were great for a family with teens and soon to be teens. I hope to be back there for many years to come. Bedrooms were spacious and the great room was perfect for playing card games at night. Perfect, perfect vacation.
the listing description was good, although under stated.
very clean and well maintained
customer service was excellent
yes we would definitely recommend this property.
all activities and attractions were perfect. Very clean, well maintained and educational.
Good weather helped, but the eleven of us family members sharing Stan's home above Lake Michigan had a wonderful time at our reunion the first week of July 2016. The house is new, spacious, clean and very comfortable, fully and thoughtfully furnished with more kitchen equipment than we have at our own home. There was plenty to do for all ages, and we had all ages. My husband and I especially enjoyed the many outdoor spots to lounge--the decks along the front of the house, the fire pit in a corner of the vast lawn, the additional decks on the dunes leading down to the sand beach. And the sunsets from any of these posts are priceless. A big reason everything works so well is the care and pride Stan takes in the house. He shows up often, outside and unobtrusive, to check on things, to bring over a frisbee golf target...whatever will make our visit more pleasant. It's a great spot for a family reunion!
The charming lake towns of Montague and Whitehall are 10 minutes away with a farmers market, numerous small shops, weekend events all summer and access to White Lake marinas. There are also weekly live music concerts at the Montague Bandshell.
Boating enthusiasts have a number of options. You can bring your own boat and launch nearby on White Lake or rent various watercraft from local vendors. If fishing is your interest, charters are available on both White Lake and Lake Michigan. You can also fish off the White Lake Channel pier or the Lifeguard road bridge. Both are short walks from The Beach House.
For the golfers in the group your options include the Old Channel Golf course which is three miles north and 20 minutes away you can play the Grand View golf course or the challenging Thoroughbred Golf Club located in Rothbury. And for those golfers who truly want to experience the best golf available in Michigan try the Arcadia Bluffs Golf Club which is two hours north in Manistee.
Additional fun for the family is a visit to Michigan Adventure Park which is 25 minutes to the south. A water park and dude ranch at the Double JJ Resort is 20 minutes away in Rothbury. You can also canoe or kayak down the White River, see the Happy Mohawk Canoe Livery website for additional information. The kids will enjoy a visit to the Country Dairy in new Era as well.
