Clean and comfortable, the sound of surf sometimes audible, especially when waves are big. Almost no other noises, very quiet. Sleep peacefully at Lemoncelo between your explorations of the big island.
Great deal for this no frills yet very comfortable cabin! It's a little off the beaten path, but you get the benefit of hearing the birds instead of traffic in the morning and evening. It's also close to the ocean, which we didn't quite realize until we left. It's about 40 minutes to the volcano, and about 30 mins to downtown Hilo.
The kitchen has all the necessities, and it's easy to hook up a computer or tablet to the TV . The bed is a little on the hard side but still quite comfortable, and we were super excited to have a king size as that's what we have at home.
If you're looking for uber luxury, this is not the place for you. But if you're low key travellers looking for a more authentic Hawaiian experience with all the comforts of home, this is it! Plus, there are two lovely dogs which add to the homey feel.
We would definitely stay here again! Thank you, David!
This place was a perfect size for the 2 of us. Great location for relatively close access to the volcano, tidal pools, beaches, waterfalls, lava tubes, etc... Cost to stay was very reasonable. We made breakfast daily and then ate out for dinner. The owner Dave lived on the premises and was great to deal with. He supplied bottled water for cooking and drinking, which seemed to be standard for that area of the island. We definitely recommend this to those who want a very nice cost efficient place to stay in a great location for sightseeing. We will stay here again, should we get the opportunity to return.
Limoncello Cottage is in a great location for exploring the south east side of the island. With a car rental it is easy to take day trips to Hilo, Volcano National Park, Kapoho tidal pools, and the relaxing Ahalanui geothermal pool.
After we arrived and settled in we realized that the cottage had much more going for it than just the low cost. The bedroom had many shelves and plenty of closet space for settling into longer visits, an awesome king sized bed, and heavy drapes separating the sleeping area from the living room (which also kept the room nice and dark for sleeping in). The whole place was clean and had a comfortable and homey atmosphere.
Unfortunately, we cut our stay short and moved to the Kona side of the island when a tropical storm warning came into effect. We didn't have time to go see the active lava flow :( but we will be back! And we will definitely stay again at David's Limoncello Cottage.
Cottage is clean and well equipped but far from everything. David is a very nice person.
David's place is very affordable and extremely well accommodated. We greatly appreciated all of the guidebooks and travel literature as well as the fully stocked kitchen--even though we didn't have time to cook during our stay. The only drawback we encountered was that it got a bit stuffy at night, even with two fans, since it is located in a densely forested area. Also, the wildlife (birds mostly) is very loud at night. We enjoyed our stay there and you certainly can't beat it for the price!
