About the property

This attractive first-floor apartment - in a UNESCO World Heritage area, Presqu'île - is situated between the Rhône and the Saône. The city's major historical sites, the best restaurants and most distinctive shops are all within easy walking reach.

The apartment has many historic features - hardwood floors, an open fireplace and exposed wooden doors and shutters.

My recommendations to restaurants, shops and services in Lyon are included in a dossier in the apartment to make your stay in Lyon as enjoyable and authentically French as possible. In the general area, there are excellent restaurants and shops including traditional butchers, bakers and greengrocers. The Opéra de Lyon, the Musée des Beaux-Arts and the ancient city are all within a few minutes' walk. The Saône is two minutes away and there are attractive walks along the banks. A daily food market is held by the river with second-hand books at the week-end

Buses, the Metro and a city bike (Vélo'V) rental station are all close-by

I live in a separate apartment in the same building and can provide help and advice if this is needed. For early arrival and late departure, guests may store their luggage in my apartment by arrangement

A tramway and taxis operate from the airport. From the train station - Part-Dieu - the C13 bus goes directly to the apartment (stop Terreaux). A taxi is relatively inexpensive

The apartment is situated on the 1st floor (American numbering - 2nd floor). A lift serves the 2nd and higher floors but it is possible to walk down from the 2nd to the 1st floor.

I have myself rented many furnished apartments and – through that experience - have arrived at what guarantees an enjoyable stay: a warm and friendly atmosphere; a large main room which gives a real feeling of space; a centrally situated apartment to enjoy the city without necessarily having to take public transport; a good bed; good Wi-Fi connection; and a thousand little details which make all the difference - large wardrobes for storage, a full-length mirror, a reading lamp near the couch, a desk separate from the table for meals, a well equipped kitchen (for lovers of cooking), quality crockery good enough to invite friends, blackout curtains in the bed room.

These are the criteria I have used in equipping this apartment. I live nearby and can be called upon to provide help and advice if this is needed.

J’ai moi-même loué beaucoup d’appartements meublés, j’ai ainsi pu identifier ce qui garantissait un séjour réussi : un cadre agréable et chaleureux, une grande pièce principale qui donne une véritable sensation d’espace, un appartement très central pour profiter de la ville sans avoir forcément à prendre les transports en commun, un lit de qualité, une bonne connexion Wifi et mille petits détails qui font la différence comme de grands placards pour ranger les affaires, un miroir plein pied, une lampe près du canapé pour lire facilement, un bureau séparé de la table sur laquelle les repas sont pris, une cuisine très bien équipée (pour les amoureux de la cuisine), de la vaisselle de qualité si je souhaite inviter des amis.

C’est selon ces critères que j’ai équipé cet appartement. J’habite en plus au même étage, je pourrai si besoin facilement apporter mon aide.

Great Apartment in a Great Location

We stayed at this property for the entire month of April while I attended language classes at Alliance Français. It was a fantastic experience in a great city. I highly recommend this apartment for however long you are in Lyon.

The location on the Presqu'île is ideal. There is a bus stop directly outside the door, and the Hôtel de Ville metro stop is at most a five minute walk. If you are there for any period of time, learning and using these systems are a great help in getting around town efficiently. Being located in a UNESCO World Heritage area, all the important historical sites are within walking distance in any direction. There is also a daily outdoor market slightly south (Quai Saint-Antoine), which should not be missed on the weekends. And great people watching at one of the outdoor cafés in Place Terreaux. Whether in Lyon for sightseeing or business/school, this apartment is a perfect launch pad for your activities.

The description and photos the owner provides are spot-on and completely accurate. Everything functioned as advertised and we quickly settled-in. We made extensive use of the kitchen and found all the necessary equipment to have people in for dinner on more than one occasion. We also had a family member visit for a week, and she was very comfortable on the sleep-sofa in the living room, so I think having four in the unit is doable. As shown in the photos, the shutters can be closed to block out ambient light from the street. The bed in the bedroom is pretty much a standard European double, and we found it surprisingly comfortable and sufficiently spacious. (We are 6' 0" (183 cm) and 6' 4" (195 cm) respectively, so we are a bit sensitive on this topic.) The place very much felt like home to us.

The owner, Laurent, is an incredible host. He lives right across the landing and is there for any issues that arise. (We had one small problem with television reception, which he addressed within 15 minutes.) He has a neighborhood-orientation notebook prepared with details and maps of local merchants (boulangerie, marché, etc.) as well as favorite neighborhood/local restaurants. It was a very useful introduction. All of our interactions with him before and during our stay went smoothly and pleasantly.

I would readily book this apartment for any future trips to Lyon. It served us very well as a 30-day rental unit, and I think it would be equally suitable for both shorter and longer stays.

Beautiful apartment with very informative and helpful owner

The apartment is exactly as in the photos. It is spotlessly clean and very tastefully decorated. The kitchen has everything you might need for cooking or just making drinks and snacks. The location is perfect, in a lively area but not the middle of the very touristy part of the city so you see the real life of Lyon around you. Laurent speaks perfect English and provides a thoughtful and detailed folder of all the information you might need. The arrangements for the start and end of our stay were easy and flexible.

Un appartement qui vous fera pleinement profité de Lyon

Nous avons passé 1 semaine dans l'appartement de la rue Lanterne et nous avons beaucoup apprécié son confort, sa tranquillité, sa propreté, sa situation au centre de la ville et l'accueil de son propriétaire. Au cours de cette semaine d'occupation, il a fait très chaud (Près de 30 C.) et l'appartement est demeuré confortable et agréable à la condition de prendre quelques précautions. Également, nous n'avons pas été dérangé par le bruit provenant de la rue en dépit du fait qu'il soit situé dans un quartier animé de Lyon.

Nous le recommandons sans hésitation.

Nice apartment with modern feel in an old town

We are two middle age couples who stayed 2 nights in this apartment. Found it to be clean, nice linen, well equipped for a brief stay. Entry & stairs leading up to the unit could do with a wash & clean, but once inside all was as described. Location was close to old town & lots of shops, but not close to the train station -cost us €25 in cab to get there & €18 return. We could've taken the bus, but difficult with all our luggage. Laurent was pleasant & helpful, booking was easy, no dramas. I recommend Laurents place if you are going to Lyon.

Long on steps

The apartment was fine and the owner extremely helpful. Location was good, can walk to the river and Old Town. However, beware. The apartment is one flight up and the elevator does not stop on that floor. And it is a long flight. Difficult with luggage and tired legs at the end of a day of sightseeing.

Owner's Response: As advertised, the lift within the apartment block does not stop at the floor of the apartment. The stairs up from the ground floor are a gently curving 19th century flight of stone steps which are reasonably shallow; there is a handrail. If you prefer, you can take the lift to the second floor and walk down one floor. I have had the pleasure of welcoming many elderly guests who have not found access to the apartment at all challenging. That said, I would completely understand if someone with limiting physical disabilities preferred to book another apartment.
