The Southern Comfort Lodge accommodates the guests of the Southern Comfort in Helen, who spent 15 years detailing the best vacation rental features, built into this custom North Georgia Lodge. They requested proximity to Helen and Sautee Nacoochee attractions, vineyards and restaurants combined with huge spaces, exclusive views and privacy. The Chalet sits on top of Eagle Talon Mountain, with views from cathedral windows and three huge decks over four states. Modeled after a Montana Dude Ranch, the property provides Hot tub, fire pit, wood fire and upscale kitchen, great room and bar facilities.
Upstairs, two private loft king sized bedrooms with double picture windows have an external landing over the great room outside their private bedroom doors. Both rooms look over North Georgia and the North Carolina Mountains. Connecting upper loft deck and landing look out the rear cathedral windows into South Georgia and Carolina and the floor to ceiling wood burning fireplace below.
Main floor facilities include open area kitchen, dining area and great room opening to back decks and floor to ceiling windows. Dining area accommodates Holiday guest diners with huge table and island on the same countertop level, with high top seats and surrounding windows! The Master bedroom and bath sit on the main floor with views over Helen valley and into Tennessee. Master Bedroom views sunrises and sunsets with 180 degree views from the comfortable room.
Downstairs decks link to the Hottub, fire pit and private sunning grotto. Accommodates large families and friends with double full bunk beds and the 5th, private fireplace, bedroom. No need to hit the couches and floors at the Southern Comfort Lodge, there is room for everyone!
We built the original 'Southern Comfort' in Helen in 2001, modeling it after our Rocky Mountain Ranch. With our 15 years of wonderful guests and 5 star ratings, we incorporated recommendations into the original Cabin overlooking the Helen Valley. This year, we finished the Southern Comfort Lodge, incorporating all our guest custom lodge recommendations built into a brand new property. We offer the 3 bedroom Southern Comfort Chalet and 5 bedroom Southern Comfort Lodge to accommodate the unique space requirements of our guests.
Keith Buck purchased this lodge in 2015
When we chose the original Southern Comfort location, we hiked the mountains around Helen to find the best site. For the new Southern Comfort Lodge, we reviewed all sites within a 5 mile radius of Helen to locate the most spectacular view in the North Georgia Mountains. We found a site with mountaintop views in all directions, no longer allowed for new construction and only possessed by a handful in North Georgia.
With a unique 360 degree site line, there is no room without an inspiring view of the Uniquoi forest and surrounding mountains. During construction, we 'discovered' Sautee Nacochee vineyards, shops, local food stores and attractions within a couple miles of the cabin and have grown to love this area.
Our goal was to bring man closer to God through the appreciation of his majesty. We combined the inspiring external views with built in craftsmanship, to demonstrate combined beauty of creation in wood, tile and stone.
Each room has a spectacular view and built in features that provide the opportunity for rest and contemplation of God's creation. Our goal is to leave each guest relaxed and pleased with the world around them.
We were group of 10 people celebrating the New Year in the cabin.
The location is awesome. Great mountains view! Only 15 min from Helen.
The cabin is cozy yet has plenty of room and equipped well. Very clean.
The owner is very responsive and accommodating!
We will be back!
The layout of the home is very complementary to family sharing a vacation with bedrooms downstairs, on the main floor, and upstairs. The views are beautiful from both the front and back of the home with breathtaking sunrises and sunsets. However, the house had several things that were unpleasant. The icemaker was not working properly, the door knob in the kitchen had fallen off prior to our arrival, all of the window cranks to open and close the windows were missing except one, and when opening the windows on the top floor to enjoy the breeze bugs fell out of the openings on every window so we had to keep them closed during our stay. The furniture was somewhat comfortable-but nothing special. The cabin is in a great location and has a lot of potential-just not quite there yet. The hot tub was a nice feature :)
This was a perfect house for our large family of 16 to gather for Chistmas. The house was very clean and well maintained. The view is breathtaking. You are just a few minutes from Helen where we did shopping. It rained most of the time but with the great play area downstairs the children had plenty to do. The owner Keith was so easy to work with. He was so helpful and kind to answer all my questions and to make sure we would have the perfect vacation with our family. He knew this was our Christmas time with our family and he had the house decorated for Christmas. I would definitely use this house again
Everything. Was great we all had a great time. We did every thing we wanted to do. The gravel road could been better. The drouth. The view marvelous
We were a few families renting two cabins together on the mountain to attend a family wedding and we were very
happy with our accommodations for the extended weekend! This house had all the amenities we could ask for and even
allowed our daughter's 2 little miniature dachshunds to be kenneled and stay with us! The home is equipped with everything you
will need and has unbelievable views!! We have wonderful memories and beautiful pictures of our weekend together! We are so
happy we found this rental and appreciate the clean, large accommodation!! We hope to return in the future!
We had a 4 generation family celebration with ages from 2 to 80. Plenty of room for all, multi-levels made it easy to find a private spot. We spent hours cooking, eating, talking, napping, walking and celebrating having each other in our lives.
The kitchen is the hub of the house. Kitchen open to dining, living and deck making it easy for everyone to socialize.
We were up every morning on the deck with coffee waiting on the sunrise. We drank lots of coffee ;-)
Walking on the gravel road was great fun for everyone. We did not see a bear but we really wanted to. We found bear poop; yes we took a photo and researched it. That was our only bear siting. But we did hear creatures rustling in the bushes; sounded larger than a raccoon.
Plenty of parking. We had 4 cars and there was room for more. Very quiet on top of the mountain. NO traffic. Bring a flashlight if you are going out to walk the dog.
Easy access if you back up to the front door. Pretty level walking and only 3-4 steps into the house on the main level. Main level has master bed, master bath, 2nd bath, living, kitchen and large deck. Someone who finds stairs difficult can easily stay on the main level and not miss out on anything.
Lower lever is great for kids in bunk room and master bedroom for adult supervision. Deck on this level with hot tub and fire pit. Level walk onto driveway. No bath on the lower level but the kids did not mind. Easy to unload directly into the garage on lower level.
Upper level is great escape for adults with two HUGE bedrooms and bath. Upstairs deck on the West side is a great place to watch the sunset.
Plenty of linens, pillows and washer/dryer.
Wifi was slow but it gave me a reason to NOT work.
It felt like you were MILE away but really you can be off the mountain in 10 minutes. Helen was really close, only 20 minutes.
The best find was the waterfall on Bean Creek. When leaving the house take a left on Bean Creek and the waterfall right next to the road on the right. Only 5 minutes away.
Southern Comfort was great place for our family. We are already talking about our next vacation.
Thank you for the hospitality.
The Helen area offers a wealth of attractions and our location atop the mountain above the valley provides relaxation in the North Georgia Mountains.
