Why Jean Phillips chose Texas

My mother owned a home on this lot that was destroyed by hurricane IKE. She decided not to rebuild. She allowed me to take possesion of this property and build a home that we could all enjoy again. I am happy to share it with others so they can make great memories like my family has.

What makes this cabin unique

Beach front home that provides a beautiful view of the beach from almost any angle.

My 'Tree House' on the Beach!

  • 5 of 5

I absolutely love this place. I came for a month and it quickly became my cozy, easy to live in, home. The open concept and simple yet tasteful living arrangements made it such a comfortable place to be in and it had everything I needed, even an easy to move around card table for doing my writing and my artwork. I always felt very close to the ocean. The beds in front of the front windows were awesome. I awoke each morning to the sound of ocean waves and couldn't wait to open the shade and begin the sunrise show! They were glorious. The balcony was my second home, with breathtaking views of the living ocean and the ever changing sky. Jean was smart to build it so that part is covered, part is open to the sky. Seeing a falling star while listening to the ocean's roar was magic. The lounge chairs, the plastic beach chairs, (which I took down to sit on the beach, they were light weight and easy to maneuver) the wooden table to set my seashell treasures on, the extra hose to rinse with, and the hammock were just the right amenities to have out there.

And Jean has thought of everything one might need inside to get you started--from dish soap, to coffee, to water, to laundry soap, to foil, to extra toothbrushes... even Q-tips and bug spray!

I didn't have to unpack and immediately rush to the store. (Which is about 6 or 7 miles down the road and the coolest place [The Big Store] that had a little bit of everything.)

This property has a very comfortable, safe, relaxing feel to it and in my opinion, is on one of the prime spots on the peninsula. You go down the stairs and walk a few steps across the grass and over a grassy little knoll and there you are, on the beach! The fishing rocks were about 1.3 miles to the left and what I termed 'the castle' (a big castle looking beach house) was about 3.5 miles down the beach to the right. These became daily destinations for walks and runs with my dog. The shells, the sea glass, the pelicans, seagulls and sandpipers, and the porpoise were all amazing. I felt like I was in a nature show.

I highly recommend this wonderful "Hide Out". Jean, thank you for carrying on your mom's legacy and sharing it with the rest of us! It's a little slice of Heaven on Earth and I can't wait to come again.

Excellent Getaway

  • 5 of 5

The property was a great place. It had an excellent balcony where we spent most of our time there. The water is so close that you can hear the waves from inside the building. The neighbors next door are quiet as well. We hope to come back next year to this fantastic location.

Beautiful and VERY relaxing!

  • 5 of 5

We very much enjoyed our stay at The Hideout! This was the closest we've stayed to the beach - it was so beautiful opening the windows and seeing nothing but waves. VERY relaxing and the house was nice and very comfortable for everyone! I would recommend this for any family or group of friends, who just want to get away from everyday life and stay somewhere "dreamy-beachy". :) Thanks to Jean also - she was so easy to communicate with, and returned the deposit very promptly. It was PERFECT in every way!

Perfect getaway!

  • 5 of 5

We enjoyed our stay so much. The cabin was wonderful with its open concept . It had lots of room for my little girl and her puppy to run around and play. The beach was also perfect for this. Very private. We could set back, relax and enjoy our vacation. I would definitely recommend the Hideaway for any type of vacation and our family will definitely be back.
