Lewis is a lawyer and I am a School Counsellor. Lewis enjoys golf and has played many of the courses near Bruce Haven. I love visiting the local arts and crafts stores and the farmer's markets.
This past summer we made it a mission to try and find the best clam chowder on the Island!
Lewis and I have been visiting PEI for the last 10 years and Bruce Haven was the first cottage we rented. Everything since has always been compared to it and when it became available to purchase we were thrilled. We love the quiet, peaceful location and safe beach for our kids. The kids love playing on the play structure and watching for 'Bob' , one of the many seals we have seen frolicking in the water right off our property.
Whether you want to lie on the beach and read a novel, roast marshmallows at the fire pit, or go play a round of golf, there is something for you at Bruce Haven.
The beach is not accessible from the front of the cottage, in fact there is a very sharp 20ft drop off to rocks below. Dangerous for small children! Beach access is 250 yards down the gentle slope. Cottage is well equipped but in need of some minor repairs to things like the BBQ and porch screens. Absolutely peaceful and quiet, we enjoyed ourselves.
A beautiful property exactly as advertised. Immaculately maintained with all the creature comforts. Pet friendy, yet no signs of previous pets - perfect! The location is a post card facing south across the Northumberland Strait affording a stunning view of the north coast of Nova Scotia. Infact the Wood Island Ferry terminal is oly 20 minutes away if you want to include Nova Scotia and other maritime provinces in your travel plans. Also at the Ferry terminal is a modest, yet amazing seafood establishment called "Crabbys"- check it out!
Dont miss Panmure Island (but not really an Island-no ferry involved) for fun-in-the-sun activities!
My wife & I rented this beach house from Heather for a week in August 2011. We had plans to have our daughters and other halves for the first 3 days then old friends from away for the last part.
Well we just have to tell you the facilities were excellent. When Heather said it was well equipped she meant it. Although we hauled along some of our own cooking gear it was certainly not needed.
We had only been in the home for a couple of hours and Heather calls from B.C. to see how we were doing--now that is how I like being treated!
If you want quiet, ocean side, prime, P.E.I.location this is it. When you first turn in the lane way you start thinking that this is out in the middle of no where, you are correct and that is exactly what we wanted. Nearest neighbour--well if you stood and waived and called hard they might see you and yet they invited us to use their boats if we wished--that is just the Island way.
I must state we had incredible weather which really helps, but being Maritimers ourselves we know you have to take what comes.
Our family and Gerry the dog were totally impressed--our big problem--what do we do next year--immediate request from the kids--rent it again!
Our friends from away had never been to the Island before and also were a little apprehensive when they turned up the lane towards the house. Within 1 hour they thought they were in heaven. They were totally impressed with how clean, well furnished and comfortable it was. They still talk about the sunsets across the strait, the beach walks and just how good a beer tasted on the back deck.
Only complaint from all was should have booked it for 2 weeks--maybe next year.
This is one of the most beautiful spots on the island. The property is immaculate and we had one of the best vacations of our lives here! It is definitely all that it appears to be and so much more! Thanks for a great week!
