Travis Heights and the SOCO area is an amazing location close to it all and allows the ability to walk to everything. The neighborhood is eclectic, safe, vibrant, friendly and reflects the true energy of Austin.
The peaceful and private setting is so enjoyable. I so enjoy the upscale but eclectic vintage charm and character of the place and always feel like I am on vacation when I stay at Hillside Hideaway. I truly feel like I have step back in time and removed myself from the hustle and bustle of daily life!! However it is great to know I can take a short walk and be in the middle of it all again in a couple minutes but than escape back to peace once again…
Very much enjoyed our time at Hillside Hideaway. The house was immaculate on arrival and was clearly renovated with great attention to every detail. The appliances in the kitchen were top notch and there was a bottle of wine waiting for us when we arrived. The neighborhood was incredibly quiet even though you are only a few blocks from South Congress. The backyard was a great place to hang out for a beer or glass of wine before we walked town to SoCo for dinner. I would highly recommend this property to any couple looking for a comfortable, clean and well appointed vacation rental in a great location. We love Austin and will definitely be back! The house was super cute and the whole neighborhood was amazing. We are definitely coming back for another visit.
I was in town for SXSW and could not have been happier that I opted to stay here instead of a hotel. The apartment was immaculate, had all the comforts of home, and was a quiet respite from the hustle and bustle of the downtown area. Set in a fantastic neighborhood, great shops and restaurants on South Congress are a 5 minute walk away and being there really helped me to see and enjoy a side of Austin I don't think I would have seen otherwise. Communication with Robert, the owner, was prompt and clear, and he was extremely helpful throughout. I wouldn't hesitate to stay here again if I was ever in the area.
We stayed here for 11 days in February. The unit is nicely decorated and well-furnished. We had enough room to store our two rental bikes. You can walk, Uber, or bike to most destinations. It's a 5 minute walk to South Congress, 10 minutes to the riverwalk, and about 20 minutes to downtown. We liked the Little Barrel and Brown Restaurant.
My husband and I stayed at Robert's bungalow for a week. I lived in Austin 20 years ago and did not want to stay in the downtown hotel hosting my husband's conference. This was his first time in Austin and I wanted him to have a real Austin experience. This property fulfilled that in every way. I chose it because of the location and the fact that it was newly renovated. It was exactly as described - newly (VERY NEWLY) renovated, very clean, and right in the middle of the funky South Congress scene without being right next to the noisy nighttime strip. While hubby was in the conference, I drove all over the city visiting friends, and the location was convienent to everything.
Robert was very easy to communicate with, and had a bottle of wine in the bungalow for our arrival. There was ample information on nearby restaurants and attractions. He was very generous with towels, which was a real plus when you are staying somewhere for a week. The bed was very comfortable, and the bathroom shower was great! It's not evident in the pictures, but this is a duplex, so we had neighbors over the weekend but could not hear much except occasional walking around. While there is a very nice full kitchen, there is not a dining table (a bar with two stools), but since there was only two of us that wasn't a big negative (we ate a few meals there and used the sofa/coffee table). The only minor problem we had was that the driveway has a very steep drop at the street, and it only took one time backing out to see that our rental car wasn't going to make it - we parked on the street the rest of the stay. Someone else mentioned that in a review but I didn't pay close enough attention - don't try it unless you have clearance.
We loved being able to walk to South Congress - had a great dinner at Perla, walked to the South Congress bridge to see the bats, and would have enjoyed Auditorium Shores if it hadn't been blocked off for an event. My favorite area in Austin is Barton Springs Road, and it was great to be so close to Shady Grove Cafe and Zilker Park - a very short drive away. I would highly recommend this property and it would be my first choice the next time we visit.
The house was updated and decorated tastefully and welcoming. Our rooms were clean and well stocked with almost anything we may need. Mr shaw was actually at the home next door on some job site for a time and was very hospitable and even left us a delicious bottle of Texas wine. Loved the area and walks around to discover historical homes ,nature reserve areas and of course soco. And all of its charms and great food and fun ! I guess our only suggestions would be to consider a longer couch for some that stay up later to watch tv or read and some kind of privacy door between the bedroom and living area and a bathroom fan for the shower and last but not least a pizza cutter for the delicious pizza we picked up down the stretch!,,,all of these suggestions are just that. Ideas to make your lovely spot even better. We would visit again. Thanks so much !,,,,first time Austin visitors from MN.
