Overview

Almont House Rental Photos and Description

Working Ranch, 3 Bedrooms + Den, 2.5 Baths, (Sleeps 8-12)

Listen to the rushing waters of the Gunnison River as you relax on the wraparound porch and watch the horses in the meadows at Eagle River Ranch. 500 feet of private fishing on gold medal waters is just down the bank, and exploring the 38 acre ranch and the sustainable greenhouse is on the “to do” list but you are here to RELAX! You slowly rock in your custom handmade porch swing as you decide that your next adventure will be the short but challenging hike to 'Forgiveness Rock'. Your dog eagerly awaits your next move!

Come for the hikes, the horse watching, the fishing, the birding and the exploring but know you will be undisturbed by “civilization” at our exclusive end-of-the-road getaway. Our chefs kitchen opens onto the living room and the dining area so you can enjoy your family as you prepare meals and picnics for the great picnic table on the back deck or in one of our chairs down by the river. As you wander into the house, you take in the rustic-chic furnishings and the sense of comfort and attention given to your “best vacation experience ever” in every room. Your master bedroom, with a king bed as well as a separate twin, overlooks the river from it's own private covered porch as well as a master bath with a separate jacuzzi bathtub and shower. You are amazed at the space to spread out in! The two bedrooms upstairs share their well appointed bathroom with a combined shower/tub. The large den downstairs has a queen sleeper sofa and the lovely 'guest' half bath just inside the large formal entryway is nearby. Even in a large group, there are so many private places to get away all by yourself! You notice the native American artifacts in the entry and it reminds you that you are on an ancient native american camping sight. You know you can plan a private session with one of the owners who is a Spiritual Psychologist and will take visitors on their own 'Spirit Quests' on horseback or can provide a family 'horse experience' for your whole group. You decide to take advantage of these options later in the week. The possibilities are endless. You want to take that hike, but you decide to settle back into one of those comfortable 'Mountain Time Chairs' (built by the other owner!) on the porch and take in the beautiful 'dragon hills' that surround your own private valley.

About Nancy Klifman

I am a owner of Red Mountain Furniture and manufacture lMountain Time Chairs. My masters degree is in Spiritual Psychology and is skilled in Equine Somatic Psychotherapy. I have three horses, two dogs, 7 chickens and hundreds of friends!

Nancy Klifman purchased this house in 2006

Why Nancy Klifman chose Southwestern Colorado

My first visit to this area was in the early 60's with my mother and father. I find the Gunnison Valley breathtaking every day. My 'hideaway' was chosen because of it's end of the road location, on the Gunnison river, 10 minutes from Gunnison and 20 minutes from Crested Butte. People who love to fish think I am in heaven! I love to ride horses and I can ride hundreds of miles on public lands out my back gate!. When you are here you feel removed from the everyday world. Because we border the national forest we are the 'buffer' for the animals that live there. The land here feels sacred and simply magnificent.

What makes this house unique

Eagle River Ranch is a large home at the end of a bumpy road. No-one just 'stops by'. There is a nice fishing-camp resort as you turn off of highway 135 (Lost Canyon Resort) that can accommodate more family or friends if you need additional room. We have two restaurants within two miles of us that are open in the summers, one that is open in the winter. You can launch a raft on the bank below our house or arrange to be picked up for a private raft adventure. We are a working 'gentlemans' ranch with horses and chickens but little else going on to disturb the peace and quiet here. I live onsite, above the garage, and am available to help in any way, my aim is for my guests to have the BEST VACATION EVER!

Wonderful!

  • 5 of 5

We had an amazing stay at Eagle River Ranch! Nancy was a gracious host and it was such a pleasure to be staying at this hidden gem off the beaten trail. The views were fantastic and the accessibility to surrounding areas was easy. We definitely hope to stay in the future!

Family and Friends Getaway

  • 5 of 5

Awesome fantastic vacation! The house was great--clean, comfortable, beautiful! The property is gorgeous. We loved going for hikes. The teenagers enjoyed hiking, whitewater rafting in Gunnison, horseback riding at Mills Creek (which is beautiful scenery, also a beautiful place for hikes with plenty of trees). It was nice to sit on the front porch with a cup of hot tea and take in the beauty each evening after a day of adventure. The drive into Gunnison is a short one. Crested Butte was about a 25 minute drive. Lots to do in every direction. The road getting to the house is a bit rough with one good incline so be aware. Overall, GREAT rental property. Thank you Nancy and Gary for sharing your home with us!

Owner's Response: Thank you, Jo, for the great endorsement! We have been offering our home as a VRBO for 4 years now and comments like yours make us happy we have shared our private piece of paradise! Yes, our road is the WORST road in Gunnison county, as it is an easement on our neighboring farmer's property and not maintained, but we find it allows us such unprecedented privacy so close to town, it's worth the bumpy rides! Your group was a pleasure. Thank you for choosing Eagle River Ranch and please come back soon!

FANTASIC and RELAXING VACATION, Will be back!!!!

  • 5 of 5

A little slice of heaven between the mountains and the river, great time, we will be returning! The house was fantastic, great kitchen and plenty of space for everyone. We had 5 in our group. The beds were really comfortable and everything was really clean. Master bedroom was downstairs with doors leading out to the back porch, huge master bathroom. Upstairs 2 good size bedrooms and full bath, also a half bath downstairs. The views out of every window were breathtaking! The front porch has a great view and plenty of chairs and a swing to hang out. There is also a cute daybed and a working claw foot tub on the corner of the porch! The river is a close walk out the back porch, great fishing or just hanging out by the fire pit. Nancy and Gary are wonderful, couldn't meet better people! We had a great time and will be back!

Perfect Location and Wonderful Owners!

  • 5 of 5

We have a group of friends from our college days that like to get together every couple of years and Eagle River Ranch was the perfect place for our 2014 reunion! We all like to fly fish and this house is in the center of it all! Short drive to the Taylor Res & River, East River and of course you are right on the Gunnison River. So much access and so little time! We also spent a day on the beautiful Blue Mesa Reservoir and caught enough Kokanee salmon to feed everyone. Our group of 8 never even made it out to a restaurant because we had so much fun taking turns cooking in the well appointed kitchen and great outdoor grill. I cannot say enough great things about this house and the owners. Nancy and Gary were so helpful and welcoming to our group and our furbabies. We had 2 dogs that had a blast running around with their dogs. Thank you Gary and Nancy for being so nice - it made the whole experience that much better. Eagle River Ranch is truly a magical place! We had a wonderful vacation and made memories that we will cherish forever!

Owner's Response: Thank you! When Gary and I began this journey we wondered what it would be like to have "strangers" in our home. Well, what we found out was we got to have wonderful people happily playing in our own back yard! It has been a blast and we love sharing our "piece of paradise". Thank you for choosing Eagle River Ranch and for giving us the tremendous feedback on our property. We are always looking for ways to improve your time with us!

Just what the Doctor Ordered

  • 5 of 5

The home is just as beautiful as the pictures show, but it is the outside and surroundings that make this place 'just what the doctor ordered'. Not only did Nancy and Gary open up their home, but they shared their ranch and animals with us a well. We had a houseful, but there was still lots of room to space out and relax. The back porch offers lots of comfort and seating, as well as the refreshing Gunnison River rushing by. If you want to get closer, just stroll to another seating area or down to the river to the fire pit to toast some marshmallows! The front porch has the wonderful chairs Gary makes at Red Mountain Furniture and a beautiful swing. My and my granddaughter's favorite spot was the day bed and cowgirl bathtub on the side porch. There are many other great things about this property and two of them are Nancy and Gary - they will make sure you have everthing you need - THANKS for a great time in a great place!
