A great apartment in a great area of Rome. What could be better?
We highly recommend this apartment. It is large, clean, comfortable, well maintained, well stocked and well located. Its location cannot be beat. The apartment is on Piazza Spada with Palazzo Spada in your view from all the main rooms. (Check out the forced perspective architecture in the courtyard.) It's two blocks from Campo de' Fiori, and two blocks from Palazzo Farnese. (You can see Michelangelo's cornice from the master bedroom--it isn't straight.) We were a couple in a three bedroom apartment, so we slept in the master and turned the second bedroom into a dressing room. We had separate bathrooms! We didn't cook in the apartment, so I cannot comment on the kitchen beyond it having a working refrigerator for our cheese, wine and prosciutto. It all worked out very well. The people at Habitat Italy were professional, friendly and got everything right, which made our trip easy. If you fly into Rome we recommend that you take advantage of the option of having a car meet you at the airport. They were able to coordinate with the Habitat Italy staff, so there were no loose ends. Having a great place to stay while we were in Rome helped to make the experience a major success.
Safe, convenient and comfortable
Habitat Italy was totally on it and super helpful. They were great at arranging transportation, being at the unit on time, etc. the place was comfortable and in good working order. The plumbing had some challenges. Water heater ran out super quickly. Most drains weren't draining efficiently. If the plumbing was worked out then it would be 5 stars. It's Rome, and old building, I expected most things I saw. I'd consider staying again, but definitely with Habitat Italy. 20-25 minute walk to every major site. Lots of good food options, close to Pantheon.
Amazing location, needs a little TLC
The location is 5 stars! Central to a daily outside fresh market and everywhere you want to go. The house is lovely but think it suffers from needing a little TLC. There were ants and fruit flies in the kitchen and the showers did not drain. You needed to stop mid shower, let it slowly drain and then turn back on the shower to finish up. I'm not sure if this is typical to the area and that the pipes are problematic, but it was pretty frustrating to stand in the shower wet everyday waiting for 7-8 minutes for the water to drain! The apartment is lovely otherwise, so with a little attention would make this 5 stars again.
Wow! That's the first word that comes to mind after our recent experience staying in Rome. This was our first time using VRBO to find an apartment to stay in. I can't say enough positive things about our experience. The group that managed the apartment, Habitat Italy was fantastic. They assisted with every detail, arranging for car service to and from the airport and anywhere else we wanted to go with just a simple call, text, or email, Fernando took care of everything for us. We had a beautiful 3 bedroom 2 bath apartment for our family of 6. We stayed right in the heart of Campo de' Fiori. Our apartment had so much character, not hard as it was built in the 1500's! Everything was updated and we were even able to host our daughter and her college friends studying in Rome for the year for dinner. If ever back in Rome, I can't imagine staying in a better location than Campo de' Fiori or in the apartment we were in. All of our kids said this was the best vacation and trip ever. Thank you Fernando, thank you to Masimo our driver, and thank you Habitat Italy for taking care of every detail. We would recommend your team to everyone.
Location could not be better, Great 3 BR place without the "Ikea" feel, and Wonderful hosts!!!
First, this location is perfect - right in the mix of things, but on a quiet little square with a fountain. You can walk to the Vatican or the Coliseum (opposite directions) or Trevi and the Spanish Steps easily, Trastevere (food and fun) is a block away, and Rick Steves' "best of" walking tour starts a block away at Campo de' Fiori.
The ceiling is a little low and dark, so turn on the lights and open the shutters while you're at home and soak in Rome's sun and sounds.
As with any vacation rental, the addition of a floor plan/layout to the listing would be helpful, but rest assured, this unit has 3 real bedrooms plus the living room couches.
TV (if you want it) is good with plenty of satellite channels in multiple languages and the WiFi was okay.
Our hosts were awesome offering tips ahead of time, arranging a car transfer from CIA airport, and sincerely appearing to be concerned about the success of our vacation right through handing over the keys. In the apartment, there is a book of recommendations of restaurants, etc. *and* there are plenty of good Rome travel guide books (if you don't have a book yet or want to travel light and leave your books at home.)
- Don't think about parking.
- Seriously consider letting your host arrange for your car service; we had a great experience and it was just a little more than a taxi, but without any hassle.
- The restaurant right across the square from the entry doors is a recommendation.
- Taking a right turn out of the front door and continuing across the edge of the main square gets you to a grocery store (Carrefur Express) in just over a minute or two.
- Consider skipping eating on the main Campo de' Fiori square; try the restaurant under/behind the apartment (or anything on the backstreets).
- ZUM Roma has great tiramisu and cakes and is open late (Piazza del Teatro di Pompeo, 20, 00186)
- The hosts have several properties in the area, and I'd guess they are all winners.
- Start your laundry early because there is not a dryer, just a drying rack.
Great apartment, great location!
My husband and I took our 3 adult children to Rome for a week. This apartment was great. It is centrally located so we were able to walk everywhere. There is a market just a few minutes away and every morning we went for fresh fruit, breads and espresso. The apartment is air-conditioned and has a nice blend of old charm with modern conveniences. The property manager was very friendly and helpful and arranged transportation both to and from the airport.
We had a great stay!
This beautifully renovated apartment is situated in a 16th Century National Landmark Building located directly in a Charming little Piazza and facing the marvelous Spada Palace built in 1540 and modified to its present state by Francesco Borromini. Borromini created, among other things, the masterpiece of trompe-l'oeil of false perspective where the sequence of columns of decreasing height and the floor that rises create the optical illusion of a long tunnel, in the bottom of the gallery, in a sunlit garden, there is a sculpture that looks natural size, while in reality it is only 60 cm high. The sculptural decoration of the mannerist stucco facade of the building, and the courtyard with sculptures in niches framed by garlands of flowers and fruit, and grotesque scenes of symbolic meaning in relief between the small windows of the mezzanine, make it the richest surviving façade of the Roman Cinquecento in Rome. The building houses, among other masterpieces, a colossal sculpture of Pompey the Great, unearthed in 1552 beneath the walls of a Roman villa. The Piazza is located in Rome’s most elegant Renaissance quarter between the Farnese Palace, designed by Michelangelo and now home to the French Embassy and steps from the world famous Piazza Navona, the traditional open food mart of Campo de’Fiori and the Oldest Jewish Quarter in Europe. In addition, the apartment is just a short walk from the Historic Center’s main transport hub in Largo Argentina, with express buses to Termini and tram service directly to the Trastevere station and on-going connections to the Airport.
