Captain's Quarters is located on the lush North side of St Thomas in East Caret Bay.
The view of the ocean is breathtaking, the sound of the waves mesmerizing and the sea breezes plentiful. The Quarters has a porch with a dining table and a grill, a 47in HDTV with cable and premium stations in the living room, a full kitchen with stainless steel appliances and granite counter tops, a master suite with a king bed, a second bedroom with a queen bed, two full bathes and a washer/dryer unit. We are handicapped accessible and one of the few properties on the island with NO STAIRS.
Joe was born and raised in New York. He attended an all boys high school and played varsity football as tackle. After graduation he volunteered in the US Marine Corp and served in Viet Nam. After retirement, he moved to New Mexico and attended the University of Albq majoring in business. Joe was owner of several service related businesses in Farmington, New Mexico. He enjoyed organizing dive vacations for large parties and traveling to exotic places. In preparation for civilian retirement, Joe attended PADI PRO DIVE in Florida and graduated as a Master Scuba Diver Instructor. After moving to the USVI, he attended Sea School and became a licensed boat Captain. Thus, CAPTAIN JOE
Joe and Marcia Wilkins purchased this apartment in 2014
We have lived on St Thomas for 10 years. The WEATHER here is hands down, unbeatable. We love the hues of the OCEAN, especially the turquoise you only find in the Caribbean. We enjoy the diversity of LANDSCAPES.
The PEOPLE of St Thomas are of many cultures and nations. Our CUSTOM is to greet all with a ''good morning'' or ''good afternoon''. It's a great icebreaker when you enter a doctors office and greet a room full of waiting patients.
We enjoy outdoor DINING and sampling our various 5 Star eateries.
Top of our list are all the AQUATIC activities available on our island, The crystal clear, warm waters are perfect for boating, swimming, snorkeling, scuba diving, paddle boarding, kayaking, canoeing etc. etc. etc.
We looked at homes to purchase for two years. We spent one year looking at lots. Marcia had a requirement list with no compromises. We had to find a piece of property with a fantastic view, no lines or wires blocking that view, decent roads and facing Northeast to take advantage of the sea breezes. We spent a year with an architect and it took two years to build.
Welcome to CAPTAIN'S QUARTERS!
Absolute great place, views are incredible and the owners directed us to all of the local spots to eat and snorkel. Quiet and close to everything.
We just got back from our 7 days on St. Thomas. The house was a 10-15 min ride up from the airport. The house very clean, so clean that I didn't even find ants, which is unusual for an island. The house had most items that you'll need (paper towels, towels, cooler, chairs, etc). We did hit the pueblos on the main road but I would recommend the grocery store in red hook. It was more fresh, had more organic items, and a salad bar. Joe and Marcia were very nice & easy to talk to. They're the type of people you can be friends with for life. They we're very kind to our boys and made sure they had squirt toys to play with. Our boys also loved Lucy, Marcia and Joe's dog. She was very sweet and stopped by almost every night for a goodnight petting. The patio/entrance was beautiful for morning coffee or an evening drink and a family board game. In short, I highly recommend staying at Joe and Marcia's place. You won't regret it.
This place was amazing. Just like the picture Joe and Marcia where the best host in the world love them
We stayed at Joe and Marsha's place in March. I don't even know where to start - the house is brand new, clean, very accommodating - has all the comforts of home! The view is absolutely amazing from the deck! Relaxing on the porch with your coffee in the morning is just breath taking! You are on the northside so there was always a breeze so you could enjoy the home with the windows open as well. Listening to the sounds of nature, hearing the roosters and the view is just spectacular - it is so relaxing! Joe and Marsha are such wonderful hosts, you felt like instant friends. They are so kind and helpful in telling you all about the islands ins/outs. Their dog Lucy was so sweet. We absolutely fell in love with this place, haven't stopped talking about it since we have been home and can not wait to go back! Thank you Joe and Marsha - We will see you again!!!
Joe and Marcia were wonderful. The house was also wonderful.
Both couples were very impressed and a great time was had by all.
Hope to return soon. We already miss Lucy
This Northside property has a panoramic view overlooking Nejtelberg, Hull and Magen’s Bays. If you’re looking for a place in the center of the hustle & bustle of traffic, bars, restaurants, tourists and shopping, this is probably not the place for you. But, if you’re looking for a quiet spot with a large private patio and a sweeping view overlooking the Northside bays and islands, then this fits the bill. You’re more likely to hear birds, roosters and cows instead of traffic or surf. This recently built 2BR 2 Bath unit has all the amenities. The photos are accurate. The bathrooms are nicely done in Travertine tile, there is a full kitchen with dishwasher and the living room has sliding glass doors overlooking the patio and fantastic view. There is HD CableTV and the internet is fast enough for Netflix—not always true on the island. The unit faces north, so there’s no direct sun on the patio, but there is a nice cooling breeze most of the time. There is some comfortable patio furniture to lounge on with a book or have a cocktail. It’s a bit cooler than the beach—I never turned on the AC. There’s a small pool available on the upper level with lots of sun. The unit was very clean and well-maintained. The full size washer/dryer were very handy. There is a new Weber BBQ on the patio. Because you’re up on the hill with the panoramic view, the trade-off is that you drive to beach. The nearest are Brewers Bay and Hull Bay on opposite sides of the island but each about 10 min away. Magen’s Bay is 15-20 min. Thirteen restaurant is only 5 min away and was our best meal on the island. Frenchtown with its collection of restaurants is about 15-20 min. We loved Oceana. The nearest grocery store is Pueblo on Veterans about 15 min away-but it wasn’t one of my favorites. I preferred Fruit Bowl in the Wheatley Center, or Plaza Extra in Tutu. Joe and Marcia were friendly, helpful, gracious hosts. They live upstairs so were always readily available. We had a bit of trouble finding the address. It’s not on Google Maps--Google has a rather fanciful view of roads in the area anyways. Joe came out to meet us to show us the way. They took us on a tour of the island the next day. It was always nice to talk to them and say hi to their sweet dog Lucy. It was more like staying with friends, not distant landlords. If you feel like working out, there is a “Universal” type weight machine in the garage. All the comforts of home in the tropics. Heartily recommended.
