Located less than 5 minutes away from Volcano National Park. Nearby Volcano Village has several good restaurants and a general store.
When you stay at this quaint 2-bedroom, 1 bathroom volcano vacation rental home, you'll get a truly authentic experience in paradise! Your children or extra traveling companions can sleep on one of our two futons in the living room making a total of 8 people that can be comfortably accommodated. You can prepare delicious meals in our kitchen, or take advantage of one of the fine restaurants in the village and truly enjoy your well deserved rest here in Hawaii.
Upon arrival, you and your travel companions will be in awe of the lush rain forest foliage, and abundance of flowering plants surrounding the property, making it a very private retreat.
The house is surrounded with a Hawaiian rain forest with many birds. You will enjoy having breakfast besides the big picture window watching the native birds and many other birds as they feed at the bird feeders near by.
During the past 15 years, I visited Hawaii at least once a year, sometimes more. I developed a love for the islands that did not diminish as time progressed. Rather it grew into a passion . When I retired ,on the mainland, there was only one place I could think of living. That was, of course the Big Island of Hawaii. I occasionally leave to visit other places and people, but I always rejoice when My flight touches down in Hilo.
John and Patti Lafleur purchased this house in 2002
I searched, looking at many other places. When I visited Volcano Village I knew I was home. This property appealed to me specifically because of it's potential as a possible vacation rental site. It took a number of years to progress from a dream to a reality, but it has turned out to be all I had hoped it would be.
My greatest joy is sharing my beautiful home and Island with my guest's.
Mahalo [Thank You , in Hawaiian]
The two houses are not luxurious by any means. They were built for people like you and me. What makes them special, I suppose, is the location. A walk in our native Hawaiian rain forest and listening to the birds in the tree tops as they drink the nectar from the flowering Ohia's is wonderful. The giant Hapu's [Hawaiian Tree Ferns] fronds swaying in the breeze. Even during our rainy periods, [Rain fall measured in feet instead of inches], it is obvious that this is one of God's special places. The hectic life style of the cities and freeway traffic are left far behind as the lucky guest's partake of the peace and tranquility that has become so rare in our world today
Comfortable, beautifully landscaped, quiet, great convenient location
Great location, especially for evening visits to Halemaumau Crater. Property was as described and very well equipped. Absence of AC not a problem, we really liked the cooler climate up here. John was efficient with communication and went out of his way to help us out when we needed to sort something out urgently back in the UK.
We really enjoyed our 2 nights stay in this house. It was very comfortable, clean, well furnished. 10 minutes drive to Jaggar Museum, a place you definitely should go at night !
We would absolutely recommend this place !
The home was very clean and had everything we needed. The beds were comfortable and there were plenty of pillows. The location for us was ideal; just a short drive to Volcano National Park. Communication with John was easy and he met us upon arrival and gave us all the information we needed to enjoy the home. I will recommend this place to friends who plan a trip to Volcano and will look forward to staying here again when I plan my next visit! Thanks, John:)
Had a fabulous time staying at John's house. It's closeness to the National Park was a bonus. The house had everything you needed. Well equpped and spotlessly clean. The garden was amazing. If only we could take it back to England. It was the ideal base to discover the area. A house you looked forward to go home to.
Outstanding home to visit! Perfectly clean, everything you need is there, even some kitchen staples! The pictures of the interior don't do it justice. The living room/kitchen area has a cathedral ceiling which gives it an open airy feeling. The bedroom comforters/pillows etc. have been refreshed.
The grounds are lush and tropical, beautifully cared for just like the house.
John and Patti are first class hosts. Very friendly and welcoming .
Try not to miss morning bird feeding time. First come many types of smaller birds, a lot, and then the peacocks come in and clean all the dropped seed. Quite a sight!
Entrance to the park and the visitor center is really five minutes away. It was really nice to be able to tour the park during the day, go back to the house for a break and then go back in at sundown for the lava light show in the evening( a must see).
Our main attraction is Volcano National Park.
There are numerous other attractions and activities in the Hilo area, only a few miles away.
