Overview

About the property

Well-kept, uncluttered, clean, spacious home in very quiet residential area

Less than 10 minutes from downtown and UNC campus, and an easy drive to RDU Airport, Duke University and other parts of Durham, Raleigh, etc. (The location is close to Highway 40.) Upright Yamaha piano, sound system, and other extras. From the large kitchen window you are likely to watch deer hanging out in the rear garden ... Beautiful woods and park nearby for walks, and house is just a few minutes away from Timberlyne area (excellent restaurants, movie theaters, shopping, etc.) Very convenient (free) public transport also nearby. Although I have a "firm" cancellation policy, I will try to issue a refund when possible, on a case by case basis (depending on whether I can still book the house for those dates, etc.). Pets are not usually allowed inside the house (and my daughter is somewhat allergic), but exceptions can be considered (with a pet fee/deposit). And though it states 5 p.m. check-in, I can usually accommodate an earlier arrival.

About Daniel Halperin

Over the past 40 years I have traveled widely, conducted research (in anthropology and public health) in dozens of countries, mostly in Africa, Latin America and Asia, and taught many different types of students (recently at the Harvard University School of Public Health). Our 2012 book, 'Tinderbox: How the West Sparked the AIDS Epidemic and How the World Can Finally Overcome It,' was a New York Times Editor's Choice. (You may read more about my work and background on my (UNC and tinderboxbook) sites. I love music (jazz and other kinds), good food, and hiking and biking, especially in this lovely part of North Carolina. The single most important thing to me is to be able to assist other people (family, friends, and 'strangers') in any reasonable way that I can.

What makes this house unique

Wonderful yet affordable entire house in desirable Chapel Hill neighborhood.

Guestbook comments from the owner

We had a really wonderful stay in Daniel's home, and are already planning to come back again. He is the best host we have had with this service, and the house had every possible comfort and amenity you would want. Terrific area for quiet, hiking in nearby woods, places to eat, etc.

OUR HOME AWAY FROM HOME>>>LOVED IT!

  • 5 of 5

We went to Chapel Hill, NC for the UM vs. UNC football game. We were two couples from Florida (Fort Lauderdale & St. Augustine).

The house was really close to to UNC, so it was so convenient for us. Also a Harris Teeter was just down the street, which was great for us since we had to buy stuff for tailgating before the game!

Loved that it was a 2 bedroom, 2 bath, so we both had our own bathroom.

So nice to have the full kitchen with all the little extras that Daniel had for us to use and take advantage of both in cupboard and freezer. We cooked a nice dinner for our kids and their friends one night, which was so much fun!

We especially enjoyed the fireplace to relax bye and sit around each evening!

Saw 3 deer the first morning we were there in kitchen making coffee early (7AM).

If we go back up that way again, we will definitely rent Daniel's home again. Thanks Daniel for making our NC weekend, one we all will remember!

Weekend in Chapel Hill

  • 5 of 5

We were in town for a three day weekend for the UNC graduation events. Daniel's home is comfortable and in a great location: single family, residential, wooded neighborhood within a mile of the main road into town; a few minutes drive to Franklin Street. The house was clean and had everything needed to make it feel like home away from home. Daniel made sure we were settled and comfortable. We would definitely stay here again!

Really a home away from home

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I stayed for a month to attend a 4-week program at Duke. It was wonderful to come back every evening to a spacious, well-maintained, comfortable home, surrounded by trees yet convenient to restaurants, shops, and the lively atmosphere of two great college towns, Chapel Hill and Durham. Much more relaxing than a hotel or condo rental! Daniel Halperin was responsive and accommodating--even arranging for return of several items I had forgotten to pack.

Very nice home

  • 5 of 5

Property as advertised. Very clean - paint looked fresh. Excellent and prompt communication and response from owner before, during and after stay. Very pretty wooded lot, a cross between suburban and country. We saw deer in the backyard several days. Nice location close to UNC, a park with a lake and shopping. Quiet, well-kept, safe neighborhood and street. Attractive décor with interesting art on walls and mantel. Well-stocked kitchen. Just a little issue with the propane fireplace - might have been us - but owner is investigating and fixing if necessary.
