Detached mother-in-law apartment on beautiful and secluded 23 acre property located at mile 30 of the 34 mile Creeper Trail. The apartment over the garage has one bedroom with queen size bed, bathroom, and living room/kitchen combo with sofa bed. Hop on a bike and breeze the 30 downhill miles through gorgeous forest lands. Walk up on the ridge for a breathtaking 360 degree view of Green Cove and the Jefferson National Forest. Sit on the front porch swing or rocking chairs to glimpse the bikers through the trees or relax on the back patio and gaze up at the hills.
The main house (3 bedroom, 3bath), about 50 yards from the loft, is also available and listed separately as property # 3871187
The Smith Family consists of Mamaw and Pampaw, owners of the property, and their 4 daughters and their families. There are a total of 10 grandchildren. Green Cove Cottage was purchased as a place where the family can get together and get away from it all.
Jeanette Gretsch purchased this cabin in 2014
The eldest Smith daughter lives in Raleigh. The rest of the family loves visiting her because North Carolina is so gorgeous and green and not too hot (they mostly live in Texas, where it is too hot) and has stunning fall colors, actual snow, and beautiful clean running water. When contemplating a place for everyone to get together, it was unanimous that it should be this part of the world, and the Creeper Trail was the final attraction.
It's right on the Creeper trail for easy biking and walking for the whole family, and only 3 miles down the trail it crosses the Appalachian trail for the more adventurous. The quiet and restfulness of the location are unparalleled. The stars are magnificent at night. And the views from the top of the ridge are breathtaking. Plus there is a wonderful hill perfect for sledding right next to the house.
Beautiful, cozy spot with everything you need. Lovely full kitchen, roomy bath with tub and shower. It was clean and well maintained. The phone was dead which was a bummer because no cell service or wifi. I would still give it a "A" rating!
The place is cozy and clean with a well equipped kitchen. Logistics of getting in and out was super simple. We could not have been happier. It is literally ON the trail so it was very easy to set out for our hike. Definitely want to come back as we barely scratched the surface of what the area has to offer for outdoor recreation.
Great location for hiking and biking. Cozy and clean space with plenty of space for a couple. Just make sure you plan ahead with food and snacks. We visited the Grayson Highlands Park to see the ponies and some great hiking. A very enjoyable time. The Creeper Trail crosses in front of the property which is great to see. We went on a walk on the trail but plan to go back for bike riding. There is no cell service and wireless does not work very well. We would definitely recommend and hope to visit again. Thank you for letting us enjoy your place!
Well-maintained, clean, small digs - perfect for two people. We were there to ride the VA. Creeper rail trail and explore the area - this space is perfect for that type of getaway. The view is spectacular - and the color this weekend was incredible. Kitchen has everything you need for cooking (except a colander). Bed is very firm. Wifi is very spotty in the apartment. The best location we found for wifi was by the window in the living room. We enjoyed the remoteness of the location; away from town.
One suggestion: Make sure you get a welcome email before you leave to drive to the apartment - otherwise you will not have the information you need to get inside. The owners might consider posting their contact info. on the door for use if people (like us) arrive without knowing how to access the apartment. There is a phone number on a small sign as you're entering the property, but it's so small it might not be noticed. We drove down the road to Green Cove Station to use a landline and call the property manager, who was very helpful and gave us the code to get inside.
We enjoyed our stay at the loft. Had everything we needed. Waking up to see deer feeding at the apple trees was a pleasure. One morning we heard turkey then spotted one walking across the lawn. Bikers path along the creeper trail is close by as well as a scenic drive over the mountains. Due to the hot weather, we had to use the AC which was pretty loud since it is a wall unit installed over the bed area. Our last night was cool enough to raise windows and enjoy the breeze coming through. It would be a wonderful place to visit in he fall. It is a beautiful and well kept property.
We stayed here while hiking in Grayson Highlands State Park and biking the creeper trail. The bikers loft was immaculately clean and fit the needs of my family of four well. The overall property is beautiful and peaceful and the Creeper Trail actually crosses the driveway, so we stopped for a bathroom and snack break during our ride. Although the owner said the wifi is a little spotty, we discovered they must have added wifi access to the bikers loft as we had good access to the internet (for the area) the whole stay. Would definitely stay there again.
3 miles down the trail from the Appalachian trail. Day hikes from the driveway are available to Grayson Highlands to see the feral ponies, pick wild blueberries, or simply enjoy the beauty of the mountains. Fly fishing is available in the river a few minutes walk from the front door. Make sure you check schedule the visit during one of the many festivals that celebrate the traditional music of the mountains.
