Houseboat was as advertised. It was clean, modern and comfortable. The shuttle to and from Duval was on time to the minute. Could have been a couple more drop off and pick up times, but that is minor. Marina staff were good and the marina was nice. Wasn't that windy so the boat didn't really rock. Definitely will stay there again. It was nice to be away from Duval Street but close enough to go when you wanted to
Pros-The view was great. Peaceful and quiet. Saw a dolphin first morning there from our deck. Marina has a shuttle to town that you can use if you decide not to drive. Houseboat is very comfortable. They are building a hotel on the property and there is a tiny walk up restaurant open for breakfast and lunch. A gym is also available but we didn't use it. Cons-office is a secured area so you can't drive to it, must walk to end of pier. When we called to check on kitchen ware to cook with, no mention that there was no oven. Also was not told that there was a laundry at entrance of our pier. No extra bedding available. Cushions on couch had not been taken off and cleaned under.
The most relaxing accommodations. The staff are very friendly. The shuttle was great. It was a short distance to down town Key West. The boat was beautifully furnished. I don't know if the best memory was sitting on the deck having coffee in the morning or sitting on the upper deck at night watching the stars while enjoying a cocktail. I hope to be back soon!
The odor in this floating house is horrible. We paid for a week and left after 4 days. We mentioned it to the office at Stock Island. They later told me that they went right after we left and did not smell anything other than the additive they put in the holding tank which has an earthy scent. Our clean clothes held the odor and days later after returning home I washed them to get the odor out. Also, crazy situation when you arrive and try to check in. You need a remote to get thru the gate, which you receive after checking in. Question, how are you supposed to get thru the gate to check in? Then when you do get the remote, it works for the other gate at the entry to the floating houses and not the gate to the office. How are you supposed to get in to check out? Not a very well thought out process! The marina itself feels like you are living in a poor trailer park and feels very industrial.
The Yellow Tail was great! It was very clean and the perfect size for the two of us. We loved sitting out on the deck and relaxing. It was calm and a very welcome break from the crowds in Key West. The boat had everything we needed. We arrived late and it was such a welcome surprise to have all the essentials we needed there until we could get to the store the next day. The kitchen was equipped well and the grill looked new.
The only recommendation for improvement I would make would be to have a TV in the bedroom. Overall staying here was an excellent experience and we can't wait to come back again!
The Yellowtail boatel at Stock Island Marina Village was just perfect! My fiance and I had so much fun and felt very relaxed and 'at home' here. For the two of us it was the perfect size! It was stocked with everything we needed for the week (fridge, microwave, stove top, coffee maker, dishes and utensils, etc.). My family was staying at Boyd's campground so we wanted to rent a place that was close enough we could take our bikes there without being in the busy, traffic filled areas closer to Key West and we got just that here! It felt more private and was much quieter (when the jets weren't flying over but even they were minimal and didn't bother us at all) than other areas on the island.
The view was so beautiful at night and the upper deck was perfect for looking at the stars for a 'romantic' evening. The boatel does rock a bit though so those prone to sea sickness may have a small issue with that but we don't get sea sick so it didn't bother us. One night, however, we were hit with a pretty bad storm and the thunder coupled with the rocking did wake both of us up so I would be prepared for an event like that again. The only issue we had, and even this issue wasn't a big one, was that the air conditioner was only two window units - one in the living/kitchen area and one in the bedroom - and being that we stayed at the end of July it got a bit warm inside during the day and it felt like the AC couldn't keep up but it was still much cooler than being outside.
Overall, we had an amazing experience staying here! It was a lot of fun and the staff at the marina were so sweet and accommodating! We will definitely be staying here again in the future!
