My wife and I have lived in Sun Valley, Idaho for the last forty years. We love to ski and surf in Mexico. We have ten grandchildren and more coming, the beach house is the perfect environment for children and adults. The climate here is perfect and a great counter point to our life in the mountains.
John Majors purchased this bungalow in 2000
Saladita has some of the best surf in the world and is perfect for beginners, with out the 'vibe' of a world class break. The water is clean and the beach is beautiful and sandy, with great swimming and body surfing just out the front door. The yard is completely fenced and safe. We have never had an incident of burglary or violence. There are 13 houses along the strand and all the neighbors know each other. We have a lovely couple who caretake the house and provide a sense of safety.
Our house is only six years old although we have owned the property since 2000. Ours is the first lot in the original subdivision in Saladita and we are close to everything but just the right distance away to feel the privacy of an individual home.
We had a ball! La Casita Bodhichitta was just what we were looking for. On the bay, great accommodations and soo relaxing. The surf was great, the locals were really helpful and friendly. Take in easy, take a long walk or go surfing. We're going back!!!!!
We stayed at La Casita Bodhichitta during Spring Break 2014 with our 5 year old and 11 year old.. and it was absolutely AMAZING!! The house was beautiful and had everything we could have needed/wanted. Our kids loved playing in the ocean, as well as the pool, and we all relaxed in the hammocks while watching the sun set or reading a book. We ate every meal on the lanai overlooking the ocean and enjoyed a stroll along the beach every day. This was the most relaxing vacation we have ever been on and we will most definitely vacation here again.
I've stayed here several times. The house is the closest to the water. It's amazing to hear the crashing waves while lying in bed or in a hammock. Absolutely recommend!
Just home from 10 days in Saladita at La Casita Bodhichitta. To echo other reviews, this place is utterly amazing.
Vibrant colours enveloped us as we walked into the courtyard - lush green palms, pink hibiscus flowers, the warm ochre of the casitas and the turqoise blue of the pool. The sea breeze and sound of waves crashing welcomed us to our new rhythm. The décor and attention to detail in this home is stunning – terra cotta floors, rugs and blankets, hand-painted dishes, mugs, beautiful masks, carved wooden furniture, doors and shutters. Conjure a Mexican casita in your mind, and this is it. Wow!
As two couples, we found the place to be extremely spacious and brilliantly laid out to facilitate lots of social time (cooking together in the kitchen, enjoying meals on the beautiful large covered patio facing the beach), as well as providing spaces for privacy and retreat (hammocks, yoga on the pool deck, separate sleeping quarters, etc).
To note: Guests of Casa Crist (large beautiful house above the casita on the same property) share the pool and gain access to the beach through the communal courtyard. A group moved in to Casa Crist mid-way through our trip, however everyone was respectful of noise levels, space, etc and it was no problem, just an adjustment.
We cooked incredible meals in the well stocked kitchen - fresh fruit, veggies and fish purchased from local markets, fresh hot tortillas off the street in Los Llanos, main staples picked up en route in ZIH or from the small stores in Los Llanos.
All towels, linens, even great books (!!) provided. Caretakers Alicia and Alfonso were very friendly, helpful and attentive – there to clean the pool each morning, bring jugs of drinking water and attend to any other needs (though we didn’t have many).
This is rural Mexico! Authentic, raw and real. The people are incredibly friendly and we felt safe even through all living quarters are open. We embraced the resident geckos, iguanas, beach dogs and all other neighborhood bugs and creatures. Two sea turtle nests hatched directly in front of the Casita during our stay – very cool!
You will need basic Spanish if you plan to really immerse yourself here. With a car, there are lots of places just beyond Saladita to explore/surf.
As beginner/intermediate surfers, La Saladita was the PERFECT break to hone our skills. We felt safe, challenged and supported by the incredibly friendly community of surfers at the break.
We would go back in a second!!
I was blown away by this awesome rental. A friend and I stayed here for a week and it was hard to leave. The house was fully stocked with a kitchen full of dishes, pots, pan, etc, sheets, towels, super comfy beds, great showers, privacy, hammocks, daily cleaning and so much more. There was fantastic art work, a book collection and a pool on site to enjoy. I really doesn't get any better than here!
Being right on the beach was wonderful and it was only a few minutes to walk down the beach to a restaurant for a beer or a meal if we didn't want to cook. The break was only a short distance farther. I look forward to coming back to this exact house the next time I stay in Saladita!
I believe my husband and I were Casa Bodhichitta's first guests. That was four years ago and we have been returning every year since. The casita could not be more ideal for us. It is trite to say, but the place really does tick all of the boxes. It is beachfront and within walking distance to a world class point wave. It has privacy, a pool, beautiful gardens, wide verandas all adding up to a very comfortable, esthetically pleasing, carefree environment. On the domestic front, the kitchen is big, they have a good size frig and I love having a washing machine to use. The caretakers, Alfonso and Alicia are really great people, fun to be around and are attentive withour being intrusive. The decor is amazing. Over the years Diane and John have collected quite an array of quality Mexican arts and crafts. They have it displayed perfectly throughout the property. When you arrive at Casa Bodhichitta you enter a one of a kind home that has character and soul.
Without hesitation we can recommend this property to anyone who enjoys surfing warm water waves, beautiful surroundings and getting away from it all. We have only just returned from Mexico and already we are looking forward to next year and our stay at what we consider to be the best beach house at Saladita.
Saladita is known as the Mexican Riviera because of it's vast sandy beaches and perfect Left riding surf wave. The temperatures are: air- 80 degrees, water- 80 degrees, humidity-80 degrees.
Monthly rates are available. The house also has two detached bedrooms next to the pool with their own bathroom that can be rented in addition to the main house. These bedrooms are an additional $500.00 per week and they can sleep four people.
Half the rent is paid initially to reserve your dates. The balance is due 30 days before your arrival.
