|Minimum Stay||5 - 7 nights|
Our 10 sided 'round houses' are cozily nestled together for either a romantic retreat for a couple or a family gathering (BUT far enough apart for a little privacy)! There are a total of 3 separate bungalows that are outfitted with two double beds in each, so a total of 12 people can be accommodated with 4 people in each bungalow.
All of them have azure blue water views and directly located on a white sandy beach, where you can walk directly into the water and start your day of snorkeling, diving or kayaking! The houses are built with beautiful local lumber that is built to last and has a very cozy, warm, wood feeling. There also is a three story dock, and a bodega on the water. The parking is covered parking for a skiff from a are two spaces covered and up to 5 more boat parking spaces available. You can dock at deep water dockage or moor sailboat in protected sunni's cove and coral reefs surround the deep water access. There are a couple of different dive operators, UTOPIA being one of them.
Located directly across the bay from our beach are a a handful of stores for grocery shopping and 4 restaurants that serve local fare. Your shopping experience is located less than 1 minute by skiff or 15 minutes by kayak! There are no cars, busses, or roads so the only way to get around is by boat! Absolutely NO car traffic, once you get to sunni's cove, you will not want to leave!
It is peaceful and quiet, but the buzzing town of utila is located 4 miles east, where there are 14 plus dive shops, 20 plus restaurants, a movie theatre, and much much more!
when the owner is there, there is high speed internet available with your stay and when she is not there are dongles avaialble to use by purchasing time on them. it can range from $35-45 and you can plug it into a USB oort on your computer. It is not very speedy, but good enough for making email contact. If you go across to the cays, you may also find a wi-fi area available but you will need to 'bribe' the password from wherever you find it available.
The water there is collected by the rainwater, so there is a limited supply of water. you must learn to be frugal while staying on or near the cays. THat being said there is a water surcharge if you go above the amount allotted, so short 5 minute showers are encouraged. There is also an electricity allotment of $30/week allowed, so you must turn off fans, lights and air conditioning when you are not in the bungalows.

i've been in banking, mortgage loans and trainer of the bank for my early corporate life and then became a nomad gypsy traveller in search of my perfect island and landed in utila on a sailing trip from panama. was almost going to settle in bocas del toro, but i LOVE utila and the far end of the island away from all the car traffic (not just electric gold carts anymore!) in the main town. i started hacking away at the jungle and little by little built my little villas which was for family in the beginning, but family has not quite made it down here yet. i love to do all active sports such as paddling, scuba, snorkeling, biking, jumping out of airplanes, rafting, swimming, kayaking, exploring, spelunking, and basically doing anything outdoorsy and sportsy as you can imagine. Being an underwater photographer and avid diver for over 30 years u believe i have fins and wish i could find a rebreather partner to take really AWESOME PHOTOS UNDERWATER!
sunni purchased this cottage in 2005
I chose this place ON THE WEST END of utila, BECAUSE OF THE SONG BY pet shoppe boys, WEST END GIRLS! Actually , because it was quiet and yet i have the little town of pigeon cay across from me and diamond cay which is uninhabited, and all of the other cays with just one house on each one. This place is very private and yet, the amenities that i need are all a 15 minute kayak paddle across the bay!
One of the very unique bnenfits of being RIGHT here and not like ANY other place is that there is a WHITE sandy beach and NOT coral where you can walk right off the beach and snorkel to the reefs, or just stare into the mangroves where you find seahorses, tiny barracudas, and all sorts of tiny infant more than steps away! you can then order a panga from the other side to come and pick you up for a nice dinner at one of the cay restaurants, and then kick up your heels at dial willy's disco! Or a short kayak paddle away you can hop off the kayak and snorkel to your hearts content, or make your way over to water cay, another uninhabited island ALL TO a picnic lunch or watch the sunset with a nice bottle of wine, with no one there to bother bring a tent and blanket and pillows or a hammock to stretch in between two palm trees and camp out there or hang a hammock for the gilligans island experience, and if it is just too serene you could paddle back to your little villa in sunnis cove for a hot shower instead of 'roughing it. bring the traditional hot dogs and somemores makings and can truly say i've been on a deserted island 'roughing it' but have the amenities moments away!
We had an absolutely BEAUTIFUL week staying at Sunni's! It is so incredibly tranquil here...from the moment you open your curtains and see the water...then open the doors (there are 4 floor-to-ceiling window doors with screens!) and feel the breeze... It's all just like it should be in paradise...
Having lived on Utila AND the Utila Cays...the calmness here is absolute heaven...and TRULY...I couldn't count that many shooting stars! Go for cabin #2...THE BEST VIEWS! :)
My husband and I had a great time at Sunni's Cove! The cabins are lovely and cozy... it was a good thing, because when we were there it was stormy and rainy every day (at the end of the rainy season). We took walks along the beach and found many amazing shells and coral pieces; we kayaked across the channel to Suc Suc and Jewel Cays, where we had a great lunch and were able to stock up on groceries. We were happy to have a solid internet connection so we could watch some movies in the rainy evenings, and the shower was awesome. We also loved watching the sunsets and the changes in the ocean and the skies. Once you get there, you won't want to leave, it is so peaceful... The caretaker, Anke, went over and beyond to make sure we were comfortable and happy!
BEST STARGAZING IN THE WORLD! You will have a hard time counting the SHOOTING STARS! (NO light pollution at all!)
There are private chartered boats or local pangas that can be arranged through the manager with a cost of about $50 for up to 6 people one way to sunni's cove, and also short fishing trips or water cay. THis is considered the water taxi and NOT the ferry that goes from LA CEIBA to utila TOWN, so some people have been surprised to have an ADDITIONAL transport fee included. we are looking at raising the nightly price in order to offer this transport as a FREE SERVICE from now on.

This is a unique opportunity to rent an ENTIRE resort of three bungalows for a private party.
the new rates posted other than the weekly rental of the entire complex, are $115 for up to two people in each cabin and each additional person is $25 each for up to 4 in a cabin on two double beds. there is $30 allowance for electricity, and extra if you are not frugal and turn off fans, a/c and lights. if you go over the allotment you will be charged accordingly as well as with the water rate. please ask to see the water stick which measures the amount of water that you use. if you leave the shower running or neglect to let us know if there is a toilet where the valve is stuck open, through the night the cistern cam empty and you are stuck with a HUGE water bill. the water is used for shower and toilet useage and not POTABLE water which means you should NOT drink the the water, even though we do have filters attached.
* Approximate monthly rate. Actual rate will depend on the days of the month you stay.
