About Jonathan and Jennifer Krueger

My Husband Jon & I have lived in Charlotte for 25 years and love the mountains of North Carolina! They remind us of our northern roots in Pennsylvania & New England. In Charlotte, Jon is an owner/partner of an architecture firm which he helped establish over 20 years ago. I have been a homemaker most of my adult life but have a background in art and currently have the joy of working as a preschool teacher.

Our home, Highland Meadow, has challenged Jon & I to draw on all our abilities to make it a very warm, comfortable, charming, and special place. Our hope is that it will be enjoyed and loved by all who enter!

Jonathan and Jennifer Krueger purchased this lodge in 2014

Why Jonathan and Jennifer Krueger chose High Country & Blue Ridge Mountains

Jon & I were instantly drawn to the awesome location of this mountain home. It overlooks lovely rolling meadows with the mountains as a backdrop. Visitors will see the beautiful stonework around the property, including a stone chimney & fireplace, walls, and stairs. It speaks of solid roots and history. Anyone who sits on the decks or screened porch of the house will fall in love with the views, the deer & bird visitors, and the fresh mountain breeze. There is also a big apple tree in the yard which fall visitors are welcome to pick for an apple pie or apple crisp!

What makes this lodge unique

Quiet retreat, panoramic mountain views, newly renovated, close to ski resorts, and great for parent weekends at Appalachian State or Lees McRae College.

Clean and Cozy with a Beautiful View

  • 4 of 5

The Highland Meadow cabin was a perfect cabin for our winter vacation. We are a family of 6, with 4 kids ranging from 14 to 3, and found this cabin to be a perfect fit for our family. Some things I absolutely LOVED about Highland Meadows is it was very clean, very kid friendly, cozy and comfortable, and the view was amazing to wake up to every morning! The only reason I did not give this cabin 5 stars is because of the trash bag policy. You are only allowed 2 trash bags in your stay, and anymore than two you need to personally drive them to the town dump yourself. The dump was not that far away, however, it is a little inconvenient loading trash bags in your car and planning a trip on your vacation to throw away trash in the dump. Other than this little factor, which is a slight inconvenience, and probably not the owner's fault but the cleaning companies, this cabin was outstanding! It was a very central to everything, as well. We absolutely LOVED it and would have really truly given this cabin 5 stars if it was not for the inconvenient trash bag rule!

Owner's Response: Jessica, We are so glad you enjoyed your time at Highland Meadow. We apologize for any inconvenience but we try to help the cleaning company by limiting the number of bags they need to transport. Thank you for the feedback.

A great piece of mountain property with a great view.

  • 5 of 5

We spent a week at Highland Meadow and had a fabulous time. The weather was perfect and leaves at their peak. The house was great. It was clean and everything was provided for. We enjoyed the great views of Grandfather Mountain and Sugar Mountain. The house is very quiet and private. There is certainly plenty to do near this property and everything is very close and easy to get to. We did especially enjoy the screened in porch. Our family will be back in the summer and we intend on renting this property again!!

A lovely home in a convenient location. The house was clean, orderly and pleasant when we arrived. Our group of 5 was comfortable and impressed by the view from the deck. The layout of the house was interesting and we enjoyed the modern amenities.

Overall it wasn't a perfect fit for my group, a few minor issues that are probably unique to our experience (roof leak, broken furniture). I would recommend this home for small parties who will be delicate with the belongings and take care with their stay. The owner was courteous and professional and provided prompt responses to any questions or needs.

The drive to downtown Banner Elk was only 5-6 minutes which make this home a great combination of convenient, quiet and scenic. We enjoyed morning coffees on the deck and at the local Banner Elk Café.

Family Skiing Weekend

  • 5 of 5

We had a fabulous stay at Highland Meadows. The cabin is beautifully decorated, mountain rustic meets modern with all the amenities you could desire. The comfort and convenience to skiing and Banner Elk made it easy to get around. It was truly a home away from home.
