About Richard Standke
Why rent from me: Owner of 4 homes directly across from Richardson's beach park and 3 ocean front homes in paradise park. I manage these homes personally with my cell number available to all guests. Payments are handled through the security of the Homeaway/VRBO site. Guests also receive information on restaurants, shopping and my favorite places to visit.
Richard Standke purchased this House in 2011
Why Richard Standke chose Hilo
I stayed as a guest at this house in 2011 and it happened to be for sale. We loved the house and location. We purchased it and that was the start of our rental business in Hilo. We later bought and rebuilt the house next door and two homes 6 doors up the street. We continued to improve this house, clearing out the jungle and planting fruit trees. We also added all the beach toys as this is still the house we stay at when we visit. We come about 4 times a year. Half the time is spent maintaining the homes, but we always do something new. We review all the places we go and include them in Activities on our website (hilovacationhomes.com)
What makes this House unique
Unique benefits: If you plan on staying more than a couple days, you will have to enjoy the location. If you love the water and especially snorkeling, you will not find a better location. The best snorkeling is in just a few feet of water right in front of the black sand beach. It is like swimming in a tropical fish store. Green sea turtles come to rest for the night in the evening at the rocks just beyond the black sand beach. The water is largely sheltered by the rocks creating a partial lagoon. Yet this house is just down the street from downtown Hilo. Great for quick trips out to eat, shopping and many tourist locations. Review the "location" tab for a list of over 20 great places to see.
100% refund if canceled at least 60 days before arrival date.
Great stay in Hilo
Experience from booking to leaving was great. Richard communicated well and provided a lot of info about the town and surrounding area that was very helpful to our stay. In addition, his bigger house right next door was vacant so he upgraded us to this home instead. It was wonderful!
Outstanding Vacation Property
We stayed a week. The house was beautiful, immaculate and supplied with everything needed.
The grocery stores are a short drive. We enjoyed the paddle boards, bikes, snorkeling gear and the kayak. All we had to do was walk across the street for water activities. We saw many fish and turtles. I contacted Richard needing minor assistance. He was quick to answer alll questions. He went out of his way to accommodate our needs.
I look forward to staying at his property again!
perfect location for Hilo vacation
The property is located across the street from the gorgeous Black sand beaches in Hilo. And a very short drive to the Downtown area with shopping and food. The house is adorable and so we'll stocked we didn't need anything!Richard was very responsive and flexible and went out of his way to make our stay as easy as possible. I would definitely stay here again!
Property was beautiful with lots of choices of beds to sleep in. Plenty of amenities and supplies for cooking in too.

Had a great time in this home, it was like a home away from home, very cozy and comfortable.
