About Barbara Tennant

Owners are architects and builder of the property. While new construction in Marfa is a challenging undertaking, the result is well worth the effort.

Barbara Tennant purchased this house in 2005

Why Barbara Tennant chose Big Bend

We fell in love with Marfa on our first visit and traveled back to the town from Houston two weeks later to purchase land and begin our project. The sun is dependable in Marfa. Days are always bright and nights are cool in the summer. The landscape of this area includes broad vistas that inspire artists and photographers.

What makes this house unique

Our home, situated at a highpoint outside of town offers an amazing view of the surrounding plateau. The home is cozy and has everything you may need for a comfortable stay. A Rumford fireplace in the living area adds to the relaxing atmosphere in the winter. The 14' adobe walls keep the home cool and comfortable in the summer months. Sit in the middle of the south courtyard on a moonless night and ponder the Milky Way.

Notes:
Relax at Marfa View. Regenerate your energy. Many guests who come here do not want to leave the house. They return home well rested and inspired by nature. Others enjoy drives to Big Bend, Fort Davis, Balmorhea and Alpine for the many attractions offered. Of course, Marfa provides a stimulating art scene. A tour of the Chinati Foundation is a must do.

This is a one-of-a-kind experience

  • 5 of 5

I understand that people generally want to stay right in the middle of town so they can walk to everything, but this is only a few miles from the center of town (5 minute drive, at most) and has some of the best views you will ever see in your life. There is no other house available for rent that will provide something similar. Pictures do not do the landscape justice. Anyone visiting Marfa should seriously consider this house. The owners are flexible and super cooperative.

Great peaceful stay in west Texas desert.

  • 5 of 5

We had a wonderful, albeit short, family vacation, full of evening cookouts and star gazing. The house made it seem longer than a 3 day weekend. The house is close to Marfa, but still far enough away to feel like you're in the middle of the desert. The views from the patio are fantastic. The house is nicely designed and comfortably furnished, with lots of great artwork. We really enjoyed our stay and would definitely come back. The patio with new Weber grill made our evenings, as we were able to cook outside both nights.

Just a few minutes outside Marfa but with the full exquisite silence of the desert, antelopes, jackrabbits.. Very comfortable and beautiful property and experience. Thank you!

Amazing stay!

  • 5 of 5

This is my third time staying at Best View and every stay is just as amazing as the last. A great place to disconnect with enough space between neighbors to feel like you're all alone in the desert. The lack of central air/heat is of no concern to me and hasn't affected my stays here in the slightest.

Highly recommend Best View... unless of course it messes with me booking my stays.

Relaxing getaway

  • 5 of 5

This home was perfect for my husband and I. We spent 4 days in Marfa. The house is an easy drive from town and so peaceful once you settle in. Plenty of time to read about the area and history. The views are amazing from the living room. We did not miss not having the tv or wifi. The town of Marfa is charming and has several good restaurants, and you must check out the bookstore in the new St George hotel. The house has a master bedroom with one queen bed which was very comfortable. The other bedroom had 2 twin beds so if traveling with another couple that may not be preferred. Each room has its own bathroom. We loved how the house was decorated, it made you feel at home and the leather sofa and chairs in the livingroom were very comfortable.

We loved the house and would stay here again on our next visit
