This home will connect you to the unique landscape of the West Texas Plateau.
Owners are architects and builder of the property. While new construction in Marfa is a challenging undertaking, the result is well worth the effort.
Barbara Tennant purchased this house in 2005
We fell in love with Marfa on our first visit and traveled back to the town from Houston two weeks later to purchase land and begin our project. The sun is dependable in Marfa. Days are always bright and nights are cool in the summer. The landscape of this area includes broad vistas that inspire artists and photographers.
Our home, situated at a highpoint outside of town offers an amazing view of the surrounding plateau. The home is cozy and has everything you may need for a comfortable stay. A Rumford fireplace in the living area adds to the relaxing atmosphere in the winter. The 14' adobe walls keep the home cool and comfortable in the summer months. Sit in the middle of the south courtyard on a moonless night and ponder the Milky Way.

We loved our stay and ended up hanging out at the house more than we planned. Sunsets were so lovely to enjoy and the location felt remote, though close enough to Marfa for a quick grocery trip as needed. Bed was comfortable, nice linens and towels. Having a washer/dryer and dishwasher was a plus.
The fireplace was not only fun, but really did warm the house. We enjoyed being able to use it since we were there in February.
Two notes: If you are a coffee lover, bring your own French Press. the coffee maker is not good. Also, the little smoker that is there is cute, but not great at actually cooking, so don't show up with your charcoal ready to cook out. We made it work, but it is not great.
Our family completely enjoyed our stay. The home is just the right distance from Marfa. We spied many varieties of rabbit so be careful when driving. We hope to return in the future.
This is about the 5th year we have stayed at the house and the most time we have stayed on property in all this time. Marfa and the whole area in general is great and has much to offer in terms of the arts, great places to eat and outdoor adventures...all of which we have done over the years. I find the thing I look forward to more each year is the peace and quiet of the house, the amazing views north towards the Davis Mountains and the awe inspiring starry skies at night. We cooked and ate at home each night we were in Marfa; read every magazine, newspaper and book we brought!
The Tennants have a real gem on their hands!
I love this place. The view is exspansive, the location close to Marfa is convenient, and the house is well designed and very comfortable. In a perfect world I'd have liked nightstands in the master bedroom that allowed you to read in bed and a guest room more suited to adults (bigger beds) but that doesn't stop me from wanting to come back. This is my second time and I hope to always return to what I call "home"
Thank you Barbara for sharing your lovely space.
Best View in Marfa just about says it all. You have a patio for viewing the beautiful sunrises and a patio for viewing the spectacular sunsets. Of course you also have nothing between you and the great view of the mountains. The location is far enough out of Marfa to be private but close enough to run into town for just about anything you need. We were there when the temps were moderate but on the days that the afternoons got a bit warm we would close the windows early so the afternoon heat did not warm up the cool air inside. For us, the solar passive design worked perfectly. Be sure to get directions to the house before you go since Google Maps cannot find it. Thank you Barbara for sharing your home with us.
Everything went great. The accommodations were perfect. Would definitely stay here again if we come back and recommend to others.
Many of our renters spend the majority of their time enjoying the view and the peacefulness of our location. The sunsets are amazing. The sun rises and sets an hour later than regular CST because we are at the edge of Mountain time. Wonderful place to relax and get away from it all!
