A seasoned TV professional, I spent 4 years living in the house while completing extensive renovations and landscaping. It was a true labor of love!
Tina Magnuson purchased this house in 2006
The area was once a holiday makers seaside destination complete with amusement park. Now it's being revitalized and art galleries are moving in to our little shopping district which survived Hurricane Sandy just fine! You'll find the coffee table book 'Sand in our Shoes' which chronicles the history of the area through photos and personal stories in the living room upon check in.
I treat my house like a B'n'B without the breakfast or a host. You'll find each room is extremely well appointed and comfortable with attention to details. It's not a bare bones rental. It's a real home full of my things for others to enjoy down to the collection of art books and 3D puzzles! I believe that details are important down to making sure planters of herbs are available for guests to use and enjoy!
Stayed in this home for a long memorial day weekend. Exactly as pictured, zero complaints. Tina was easy to coordinate with. The beds were very comfortable. Her housekeeper lives across the street, was very sweet, and met us with the keys on our arrival. Neighboors and locals were very friendly. Two minute walk to the beach. Multiple playgrounds within 5 minute walk we took our one year old to. Ice cream shop and place to get lobster rolls/chowder 3 minute walk away – delicious and convenient. Home was very clean. Has a BBQ grill in the back we used each day. A very nice weekend, we would recommend this home to others and stay again. Deposit was returned without any issue a week later.
We stayed in this home during a very hot week in August and had a great time. Our goal was to get away with our grown kids for relaxation and low-key fun and this spot was perfect. The house is truly within walking distance of a nice beach. The state park, just a bit farther, is even nicer. We enjoyed wading in the lengthy area of shallow water, collecting shells, and walking and jogging along the boardwalk and especially out to the little island during low tide.
The house is on a quiet street with a driveway that held both of our cars. It was very clean. The rooms seemed smaller than they looked in the photos but it was just the right size for our family of five. The master bedroom was spacious, and our three adult children each had their own space – two in bedrooms and one in the living room on the sofa bed. The dining area was a little cramped, but on the plus side, the table was spacious. Everything we needed was in the house. We loved the picnic table in the backyard for breakfast and a lobster cookout.
This was our first time using VRBO and we were overall satisfied. We were a little concerned about sending money in advance, but everything worked out fine and our deposit was refunded within days. We expected to clean up after ourselves, of course, but didn’t think about needing to do things like watering the yard, putting the trash out to the curb, etc. No big deal, but just unexpected. It was truly like staying in someone’s home – we were! – so there were photos and decorations around. Tina gave detailed written instructions so we could refer to them to find answers to any questions and she responded quickly to a few texts with questions. Tina really cares about making tenants happy. Thanks, Tina!
This beautiful beach house was a perfect place to spend a family vacation. The location, decor, convenience, and amenities were perfect. Tina was very accommodating and readily answered any questions and provided suggestions to enhance our stay. The house was in perfect condition and had everything we needed to feel at home. Thank you, Tina, for a wonderful experience!
Well decorated beach cottage, can see how it would work well for a young family of four. Easy walk to the beach.
I stayed in this house for 2 weeks as an alternative to a downtown New Haven hotel for family for a weekend trip. It was fabulous!!!! I could not have been more pleased with the ease of navigating and logistics with the house, nor do I think I could have found a better decorated and comfortable house to stay! The attention to detail with everything in this house is stunning. It is the perfect beach house, with the feel of luxury in the bedrooms and bathrooms, but the comfort of a home.
It is stocked with wonderful books for a quiet day at home amidst the plethora of groomed foliage and flowers in the back or front yard, records and music to enjoy old times, games to enjoy time with family, or a very short walk to the beach for a sunny day. There is a market roughly 2 blocks away (less than 5 minutes walking) with some of the best chicken salad and grape leave I have ever had (and I have had quite a few at different places as they are two of my favorite foods), a fabulous lobster roll cafe (we had a dinner catered in the back yard one evening weekend), and beach shops to rent paddle boards or purchase a stained glass or sea shell souvenir. The neighborhood is quiet and safe, and the neighbors pleasant and friendly.
I would recommend this beach house to anyone who is looking for an alternative to staying in a hotel and is looking for a clean and comfortable feeling. It is very friendly for a long term rental. If I return to Connecticut, I would definitely stay in this rental again, and I plan to rent through VRBO for all vacations in the future as opposed to staying in a hotel.
Overall, a spectacular place to stay!!!
Loved the decor and cleanliness of this home! It looks exactly like the pictures. We spent a week in May with the kids and grandkids and there was plenty of room for the 6 of us. My brother and his family stayed here previously and I would highly recommend the property. We spent a lot of time with family in the area, but squeezed in a trip to Louis Lunch in New Haven, Mystic Pizza and a tour of the Thimble Islands.
We had an amazing week-end in this very charming house. The bedrooms are all cozy and well furnished. The kitchen is very well equipped. This property is very nice and well maintained. Just a few block from the beach which is very convenient. We’ll come back!
