About Lisa Stephen

A former New Yorker relocated to Maine, living a simpler life and loving every minute! Not a day goes by that I'm not spellbound by the spectacular beauty of my surroundings.

Lisa Stephen purchased this house in 2012

Why Lisa Stephen chose Downeast and Acadia

I fell in love with Eastport the minute I turned on to Water Street. I purchased my first home in 2008 as a retreat from a busy life in PA. A breathtaking view was my top priority. I've always longed for a home directly on the ocean and purchased this when it became available in 2012. I have travelled the world and find Eastport and the surroundings never fail to take my breath away. You'll be awed by the beauty. The home was badly in need of renovation. Everything was redesigned and reworked. This is my third (and final, I think) renovation. I'd love to share it with you. Are you nervous about renting a property with no reviews? Please refer to my original rental for guest feedback from last year when it premiered on Homeaway/VRBO. Listing # 3736125.

What makes this house unique

A private rocky beach is great for exploring. Wind your way down the cliff and experience nature and wildlife at it's most glorious. Panoramic views of the Maritimes abound from every room.

Great Vacation!

  • 5 of 5

Last year we stayed at Lisa's Dog House and this year it was the Lobster Trap. Lisa does a great job on her homes. Very clean and comfortable. Lisa answers any questions you have quickly and is a great resource on where to eat and what to do. This year, we went to St. Andrews New Brunswick and visited Kingsbrae Botanical Gardens. Very worthwhile if you are into gardening and sculptures. They also have a great restaurant on the grounds. We also stopped by the aquarium on our way back to Eastport as we have two young boys which they enjoyed. If you like to hike, you must check out the Quoddy State Park in Lubec. The views are incredible and there are trails of varying difficulty. There is a nice brewpub in Lubec also. They are opened later in the week and don't serve food until 5 even though they open at 2. We were hungry after our hike so we got a snack at Cohills and then headed back for some pizza and salad at the Lubec Brewing. Food is very good and the beer too!

Eastport and the surrounding areas have nice places to hike and just check out scenery like Reversing Tides in Pembroke and many other smaller parks if you grab a trail map. We explored several nearby. In Eastport, we ate lunch a couple times at Quoddy Bay Lobster and Dastardly Dick's has some really good coffee (again be aware of the hours). If you like smoked salmon, go check out Mainely Smoked Salmon in Perry. They also sell this at Quoddy Bay Lobster. Also be sure to visit Lisa's store, Sweeties! My kids love it!

The view off the deck of the house (both houses) make for a nice place to sit and enjoy. We were lucky to have pretty good weather so we go to also enjoy a full moon which was pretty spectacular.

A Perfectly Quaint Town, Absolutely Lovely Home and Glorious Setting!

  • 5 of 5

We want to thank Lisa for offering her lovely home for our vacation. The setting on a bluff overlooking Fundy Bay is absolutely breathtaking. The home itself is as clean as can be and the decor and furnishings are all fantastic! This little cottage is filled with every amenity and convenience from a fully stocked modern kitchen to high end linens and luxurious details everywhere. The deck furniture was a wonderful place to sip coffee and watch the sea. French doors off the living area and master bedroom create an ambiance and openness that is such a treat. We slept with the doors open most nights and enjoyed the cool ocean breeze. What an adorable town that feels quiet and cozy, inviting and private, relaxed and sophisticated, vintage and modern all at the same time. It felt like a privilege to call this little hamlet our 'home' for a week. If we have the chance to come back we will be sure to bring bikes. It is a comfortable walk from the house to town and bars and restaurants and shops but we wished we had bikes to venture further. We went whale watching with SKIP (cant remember the name of his business - ask Lisa) and also went fishing with SKIP. WHAT A TREAT! It is a definite MUST when you visit Eastport. Great Fresh Seafood, Lovely People, Quaint Vintage Surroundings and the GLORIOUS BAY! Thank you Lisa - we hope we can come back someday!!!

Eastport vacation on Moose Island

  • 5 of 5

The Lobster Trap is one of those places you wish you could stay longer and never leave. Its location provided wonderful views of the bay and boats going by. The ferry crossing the bay was so punctual, we could watch it from the deck and know what time it was. The house is easy walking distance to great restaurants, shops and galleries along the harbor. The grounds were beautifully manicured and the house immaculate and accommodating. It is obvious the owner takes pride in the house and tasteful décor. Lisa anticipated our every need and then some. The people in this small community are very friendly and welcoming to visitors. We gained a wealth of knowledge talking with the local shopkeepers. They were anxious to share Eastport's history and annual events. We learned of a naval ship with 300 sailors that is part of their 4th of July celebration. Also learned about their fishing industry and the hard working fishermen who go out at 5 A.M. Morning walkers are always greeted with a smile and hello. Eastport offers outdoor concerts, movies, and many festivals right in town. The close proximity to visit Campobello and taking the ferry to Deer Island is a must. There are numerous parks, museums, lighthouses and lookout points to explore, and "Old Sow" (2nd largest tidal whirlpool in the world!) You can sit on the deck of the Lobster Trap and watch this natural phenomenon every day. A day trip to Calais and into New Brunswick offers new experiences also. Having done several VRBO properties, this one is the gem. A return visit is an easy decision for us.

Hated to leave!

  • 5 of 5

Lisa’s “Lobster Trap” may be the single best location from which to enjoy the peaceful charm and welcoming community of Eastport, home to a modest but active working waterfront with a rich past. This lovely rental offers sweeping views of three Canadian islands from inside and from two large decks outside. A short walk down Water Street leads to the center of town which provides an eclectic variety of galleries, small shops, and restaurants.

Come to Eastport for the location’s natural beauty, historical buildings, friendly residents, and—above all—its remarkable peace and tranquility. Stay at the “Lobster Trap” for both a supremely comfortable, well-appointed home and to benefit from Lisa’s deep knowledge of the community and unending helpfulness.
