About Scott and Sam Lepley
We live on the NJ coast, but have vacationed in Vermont for 29 years. As an architect, Scott designed this home to meet the needs of our varied family, although 2 sons now have their own homes nearby. Scott & Sam are both qualified ski instructors for disabled skiers, but prefer this community year round environment to living at a ski area that's deserted 7 months out of each year and packed with people the other five. We built this vacation home and relocated from Stratton in 2001. Interior design and furnishing was done by Sam using a mixture of antique and new items to make the home comfortable and relaxing.
Scott and Sam Lepley purchased this Lodge in 1999
Why Scott and Sam Lepley chose Tinmouth
We tore down the old 1953 camp after purchasing this site, but left the rustic stone fireplace that was once the center of the camp as an outdoor fireplace. Some of the components of the old camp, such as hand-hewn beams and the slate roof were re-used in the new home. The 2 story great room is supported by a timber truss and features a native stone wood burning fireplace, look for the stone shaped like a map of Vermont! There's a whole-house standby automatic generator for Vermont's frequent outages as well as full appliances and laundry. Careful siting of the home on the property allows midday and afternoon sun across the back yard and decks. There's usually a breeze here on the windward side of the lake, helping to moderate high summer temperatures. You can spend a week here and never leave the property or just as easily travel to many local activities from museums to recreational areas to shopping at Manchester's outlets. Scott has been asleep in some of the finest parking lots in Manchester while Sam drives the local economy to new heights.
What makes this Lodge unique
2 bedrooms on the first floor make this home easily accessible, and the finished walk-out recreation room at lake level also helps access. We are adding a few stone steps from the backyard down to the water so grandchildren (and Scott) can easily get into the lake. There's also a small pond on the property and an outdoor shower to wash those kids off once they're done playing. A small but wonderful screen porch allows you to enjoy the view and breezes during the summer months.

Wow! just wow!
Before we arrived Scott was in contact with us with detailed directions and asking for any special requests that he may help with to insure our satisfactory stay. Our third time using vrbo and haven't been disappointed yet. The house itself was phenominal, Scott and Sam have done a wonderful job attending to the small details. Spacious and cozy in the same room made everyone feel comfortable. We had three couples and we never felt crowded or excluded at anytime. House was immaculate on arrival. From using the kayaks, to the outdoor fireplace, to the deck grill and the enclosed screened porch, there was nothing that could've made our stay any more enjoyable. My favorite was early morning paddling on the lake. Centrally located to our daily outings, we returned every evening with enough time to eat and enjoy what the house had to offer. Thanks to Cameron and Ingrid for their attentiveness to our needs! Highly recommend this home and these owners, they were great!
Beautiful place to build memories with family. Peaceful. Nirvana.
Beautiful home on a quaint and quiet lake!
We spent Memorial Day in the house and absolutely loved it! The home is beautiful, one of the nicest on the lake, and is steps from the water. The kayaks and outdoor fireplace made it very relaxing and memorable. The homeowners were very accommodating and great to deal with when preparing our trip. We would highly recommend this home and property for anyone that’s interested in a secluded and relaxing getaway hidden in the hills of Vermont!
Felt just like home.
The home was set up so nicely and was clean and well appointed. We were there in the winter (and it was great!), but based on the location, it must also be a great place to stay during the other seasons. It was a great way to spend a weekend away with the family. Highly recommended.
Wonderful home in a beautiful Vermont setting
Our family of 7 rented this property for a 3 night ski getaway the first weekend in January. Scott, the owner, was simply a pleasure to work with and not only answered all my questions promptly, but when the "bomb cyclone" storm hit and we were trapped in the Manhattan/ North Jersey area, Scott reached out to me first and offered to push our stay back a day as luckily it was available to do so. So very kind of him. We arrived early Fri morning to find a beautiful home (Scotts directions got us there easily even with all the snow covered roads!) that was both clean and well-equipped. We enjoyed our time there and are hoping to come back next year for a longer stay. Thanks again Scott!!
Wonderful place for a Vermont vacation
The greatest compliment one could pay an owner is a desire to return, and we hope to have that pleasure again next year.
A common thread through many of these reviews is the attentiveness of the owner, and that was our experience as well. Throughout the booking process, our preparation for our vacation, and our time in his property, the owner was responsive and helpful. As first time VRBO users, this was very important to us.
The property is beautiful – the photos online do not do it justice. This has to be the nicest setting on the lake. Although we could see other houses on the lake, we were completely unaware of neighbors on either side. The lake view from the living room, dining area, dock, deck, and porch was completely enthralling. In fact, don’t plan to get any reading done. The water will distract you.
You should be aware that depending on your cell carrier, you may have no cell service. A Verizon user had one bar, and an AT&T user had none. To me, that was a plus. The wifi in the house worked without problem. The location is remote.
Please note that in the master bedroom suites there is no door between the sink area and the bedroom. If you are an early riser like I am, you may disturb your partner who may want to “sleep in.” But why sleep in and miss the beautiful sunrise over the lake?!
We cooked breakfast and dinner every day, and had all the kitchen supplies and tools we needed. In addition, the owner made sure we had plenty of propane for the grill, which was another thoughtful gesture.
If you plan your vacation at Chimney Cove, you will return home with many happy memories.
Tinmouth is a small mountain town of about 600 residents, the town center is about 4 miles from Tinmouth Pond and has a multi-denominational church, small library, tiny municipal building, school with playground and firehouse. There is no 'downtown area' per se, however the town of Manchester (about 15 miles south) provides world class factory outlet shopping as well as many fine restaurants and the town of Rutland (15 miles north) has Walmart, Home Depot, and Tractor Supply as well as a variety of food stores and restaurants. Tinmouth Pond is a great place to find peace and quiet, but at the same time have access to all the necessities to which we've grown accustomed, and it's only a half hour to 45 minutes from 5 or 6 major ski areas. Many of the ski areas now feature summertime activities as well, mountain biking, hiking, sightseeing, concerts, Alpine slides, etc. The fabulous Shelburne Museum is 1 1/2 to 2 hours north, and makes a wonderful day trip for all ages. We've never been at a loss for something to do in Tinmouth.
