This one acre property sits atop Taylor Mountain, 15 minutes southeast of downtown Santa Rosa; a whole world away from the hustle and bustle. This very private home is clustered within a small community of houses that are surrounded by ranches and vineyards affording breathtaking views high above most of the winter fog and cold temperatures of the Santa Rosa Plain. Bennett Valley, Kenwood and Glen Ellen are 20 minutes away and the historic town of Sonoma, Russian River Valley, Healdsburg and the Bodega Coast are 40 minute drives. The excitement of downtown San Francisco is just an hour away.
This classic ranch style home has high celings and an open floorplan with a chef's kitchen. The living/dining/family room opens to the large covered terrace, perfect for year-round alfresco dining. A cozy sitting area/library with 100's of varied titles to browse is nestled around a wood burning fireplace. The Master bedroom has bathroom en-suite and affords a wake up view of the valley below. The second bedroom has an en-suite bath with tub. Both bedrooms have queen beds and cable TV.
The gardens have been designed by the landscape architect owner and have been featured in Sunset Magazine/Western Garden Book, Better Homes and Gardens and other publications. Wildlife watching abounds, especially with the morning birds queueing up to be first in the feeder. Bluejays wait to be treated to peanuts and clumsy quail, sometimes 20 at a time jump up on the terrace wall in search of breakfast. Hawks, Geese, Woodpeckers and hungry Herons fly overhead and owls serenade at night. Deer, fenced out of the gardens, browse below and and an occasional fox can be seen at sundown along with turkeys roosting in the oaks.

Everything about this rental was perfect. Richard met us and showed us around the house. He shared restaurant suggestions with us and left us a bottle of wine and a loaf of homemade persimmon bread. The house is lovely and met all our needs and the gardens are drop-dead gorgeous. I cannot think of anything he can do to improve-he thought of everything. I highly recommend this rental and hope to visit again.
I concur with everyone else! We stayed here with our best friends, and enjoyed every evening on their back porch. Watching the fog roll in across the valley was amazing, and feeling the temperature drop from the 80's to the 50's was delightful! Strolling thru Richard and Bassam's gardens was so relaxing...and so gorgeous... that I left thinking I might try my hand at gardening...on a much, much smaller scale! I would most definitely stay there again and have shared our photos and thoughts with friends that commented on them from Facebook. Only one suggestion, so you have it with you...bring a small portable speaker for your music, as there wasn't a stereo system available.
This place is like paradise. A superb view, a nice pool, a beautiful garden and a comfortable house is waiting for you. Richard and Bassam were very good hosts, they even make a very good cake for us at our arrival. This place is well positioned to visit wineries in Sonoma County, and you can drive one hour to visit wineries in Napa Valley. Thanks for this pleasant stay. We hope to return soon!
This review is long overdue. We spent our honeymoon at this beautiful property. What an amazing ten days we had! We were warmly welcomed -- and here is where the standout quality of this place begins--. Freshly squeezed citrus juices, home baked goods, fresh-picked fruits and vegetables; these were just a few of the special touches. Each day we seemed to discover some new area of this beautiful property--both outdoors and inside, where each room is tastefully decorated. I don't think we've ever found a place that so well suited our style and pace. Richard, the owner, was helpful and unobtrusive both; the perfect host. He has built a very unique home, where we felt fortunate to have the opportunity to celebrate this very special time in our lives.
We enjoyed our stay at this beautiful house, It was well very clean and well maintained. The pictures are exactly as shown. The owners were wonderful with good communication and answered all our questions. Little extras like milk, eggs and bread left in the refrigerator were a plus! There was also a fabulous garden on the property but at the time we were renting ,it was a little too earlier for most of the crops so we did not get to enjoy it. The outside pool is very nice and warm with the solar heat for those chilly mornings or evening swims. Overall a great experience and we would rent again. The property is great for 2 couples and a family with adult children.
Outstanding experience. My wife and I have traveled extensively domestically and abroad. This was our first VRBO experience and must admit we were apprehensive. All concerns vanished when our hosts greeted us at the door after a 10 hour trip on airplanes and at airports. They showed us their gorgeous home, explained thoroughly all the details of the residence, the area, favorite places of interest etc. The kitchen was well stocked with everything necessary to prepare meals if one chose to eat in, including fresh vegetables from their lavish garden, home made bread, etc. etc. We were their eight days and enjoyed all aspects of the home, from lounging on the patio, swimming in the pool, reading in the relaxed living room, to just sitting and taking in the views and scenery . We were so satisfied with the overall experience that we have booked another week in early October 2013.
