I live in Grand Haven in the woods on the beach and have been coming up to the Fife Lake area for the past 20 years. I spend much of my time up north. My neighbors in GH, who come only in the summer, always wonder why I could possibly be going any where else!
Carole Loftis purchased this chalet in 2002
My husbands father built his cabin in Fife Lake in the forties. We loved the woods and beautiful lakes in the area and subsequently found our own place on Downs Lake in 1994. The Chalet, also on Downs lake was purchased in 2002. The original cabin, close by, has been renovated and can be rented along with the Chalet.
The chalet is a peaceful place in the center of nature. Watch and observe closely, you will not be disappointed.
Our family of four had a wonderful time creating memories at this lovely Fife Lake chalet! It is an hour's drive to Boyne and about a half an hour to Traverse... A perfect location. We are winter enthusiasts and it was ideal for ice fishing, cross country skiing and snowmobiling. The snowmobile trails begin just outside the gated driveway and go for miles, with many bars/restaurants along the way. After a fun day out in the snow, we would cozy up by the wood burning fireplace. We love to cook as well, and the kitchen was nicely equipped with everything we needed. The bathrooms are a nice size. There is no Wi-Fi yet, which was not a problem for us, but may be for some. We would love to come back in the summer and enjoy boating and swimming, as it seems to be perfect for that as well. Thank you to Steve and Carole for being such a pleasure to rent from!
Love the Fife Lake area and we were excited to find this place. Secluded, lots of land to roam, private lake. Close to State Land, Traverse City. Chalet was clean and well stocked with beautiful views. Carol was friendly and very helpful. We plan on staying here again.
The Chalet was the perfect place for our summer vacation. We spent the week kayaking and swimming on the beautiful lake, exploring the gorgeous property and relaxing on the spacious deck. This was our first trip to Michigan and based on our experience at The Chalet, we will definitely come back for more! The property is close to Traverse City and we took several day trips there as well as to Petoskey, Torch Lake and Mackinac Island. Our 9 year old daughter had a wonderful time swimming in the lake. Checked all the boxes on our must-haves on vacation list: relaxing, fun and memorable! Carole was a pleasure to work with and the house is lovely - the perfect size for our small family. This one's staying on our favorites list!
This is a great place for nature lovers. It was very quiet and secluded on a private lake. We took walks in the woods every day with our two dogs. We used the fishing boat, paddle boat and kayak. The Chalet was very clean with nice rooms and good size bathrooms. We had a very relaxing time and enjoyed it so much that we made arrangements to stay an another week.
If your looking for a place to get away from noise and electronics then this is the place. What a great place to reconnect with your family. The chalet was perfect!!! CLEAN, nice rooms and bathrooms, the lake was breathtaking in the mornings (even had a bald eagle fly over my head one morning). Carole even left us games one day when it rained all day which was perfect. The kayaks, paddle boat, and fishing boats were put to good use. It was secluded but not to far away for sightseeing.
The chalet was all the owner represented it to be. We thoroughly enjoyed the private, peaceful setting surrounded by woods and ferns looking out over the beautiful lake ringed with water lilies. We appreciated the comfortable beds (the best we had slept in months), well stocked clean kitchen, spacious living area, beautiful fireplace (42 degrees one morning) and large clean bathrooms. We enjoyed all the hiking trails and the use of the fishing boats and kayaks. We were able to check kayaking off our bucket list - now we are hooked! If you are a star gazer, the night sky is spectacular. We were awakened each morning with loons on the lake and put to sleep with owls hooting at night. The chalet was a great place to disconnect but just the right distance from Traverse City if you are seeking a busier pace. Carole was easy to work with and checked in with us mid-week. We are outdoor people and photographers, and would love to visit in the fall and winter.
Property is located in a beautiful wooded setting on 2 private lakes providing many of its own activities including swimming, hiking, fishing, attached snowmobile trails and cross-country skiing.
Traverse City is an easy drive if you are looking for a bigger city opportunity, as well as the renowned Sleeping Bear Dunes.
