My husband, myself, our children, grandchildren and extended family all enjoy spending time together at Stonecroft. Our property has a unique way of bringing us all together whether near or far. It is our pleasure to share this property with you and your family.
Jane & Peter Franchetti purchased this cottage in 2010
As a former Bed & Breakfast, from about the 1940's-1970's, Stonecroft was well regarded by everyone who stayed here. For years before purchasing Stonecroft my family would kayak by the property and remark about its beauty and unique qualities. It was only a dream then, but now we are the fortunate owners of this remarkable piece of paradise and we feel grateful to extend a warm welcome to others so that they can come and enjoy Stonecroft just as much as we all have.
Stonecroft is very private and secluded property yet it is with in walking distance to Main Street. Wilton is a very quaint and friendly town which features a library, post office, grocery store, and other local businesses.
My wife and I have been vacationing in Maine on a lake every summer for the past 3 years. This year we wanted to try to bring a group of friends with us to show them how great it is. Stone croft was the perfect setting for our group. Right on the lake, with kayak's, paddle boat, etc. Large enough for a group our size (8) and probably a few more. It felt like home even though we were only there a short time. Dealing with the owners was extremely easy and they were always responsive with any questions beforehand or while we were there. Would definitely recommend.
We stayed at Stonecroft while in Maine working - it was Wonderful. Hope to stay again, maybe next we will have more time to enjoy all of the extras the house has - Peter and Jane could not have been any nicer.
My husband, myself and our two young kids, ages 3 & 6, have stayed at Stonecroft for the past two summers in the gorgeous lakeside guest cottage. Stonecroft has become so near and dear to our hearts....my children talk about "camp" and all the memories that were made there for the entire year though. They tell all their friends about their camp adventures and everything they discovered while in Maine. One of their most cherished memories is making their very own fairy house! They collected materials everyday while galivanting through all the little hidden nature trails and gardens this property has to offer. They were so pround of their treasures....bark, leaves, pinecones, moss, twigs, stones....you name it, they found it at Stonecroft! This genuine Maine tradition of fairy house building has become one of their fondest memories! Stonecroft has truly become our little "garden of eden". And I am quite sure my dog would say the same....vacationing at Stonecroft took atleast 5 years off from her....my senior dog suddenly turned into a puppy all over again. Lakeside living on this property is any dog's little piece of heaven as well. There is a new adventure around every corner here. There is countless things to do, rain or shine! I would highly recommend Stonecroft to anyone. I think this place has something to offer everybody! We anxiously await our return!
My family and I arrived to find the rental easily with no problems, just as it was described and pictured. The owners Jane and Peter have done a wonderful job cleaning and maintaining this rental. Surprises were found with every turn. My 5 grandchildren enjoyed the beach area stocked with toys and chairs for all to enjoy. Then , as they referred to it, the park with volleyball, horse shoes, swingset and a shed full of toys of all kinds for all ages. Many hours were spent at the dock, fishing, swimming and enjoying the kayaks, padal boat and motor boat. The campfire equipped with everything needed for smores, as well as, peaceful tranquil family time to relax while enjoying the beutiful sunset and lake. This property offers everything needed for the very young to the very old. We plan to repeat this adventure every year.
As promised, Stonecroft offered everything listed and more. The fully outfitted main house with its adjacent cottage is the ideal family getaway and is ready to enjoy by all ages. No need of potential renters was overlooked. Toys, games, boats, outfitted kitchen and if needed, wireless network. It was exceptionally clean and well stocked by the owners who are extremely friendly and gracious. Stonecroft can handle large groups. From our 2 year old granddaughter to our 93 year old mother, there was fun and relaxation. Be it coffee on the porch each morning looking at the beautiful mountains or daily barbecues and campfires, the simplicity was a joy. Swimming, kayaking, sailing and the biggest bass catch ever by our son all added to the fun. Tucked in the woods on the most beautiful spot on Wilson Lake, nature’s beauty surrounded us with loons and frogs to lull us to sleep and a close encounter with a bald eagle while boating. Stonecroft is unique in that it has such a variety of “places to be”: gardens, dock, beach, deck, porch, family areas and outdoors. We would highly recommend you visit and like us, you will plan to go again.
My wife and I and our prized Corgi rented the smaller cottage over the holiday, and although I have stayed at this property prior to the current owner's awesome renovations, I can enthusiastically recommend either or both properties to anyone and everyone seeking to escape the fast pace of the life in the northeast. The views are breathtaking, especially sunset, and the property is massive, boasting over 500 feet of shoreline. If Skiing is your passion, it is less than an hour from Saddleback, Sugarloaf and Sunday River Ski areas. If it's golf you desire, you're less than an hour from world class courses at Belgrade Lakes, Sugarloaf, Sunday River and seconds from a little 9 hole gem on this lake! As if that wasn't enough allure, the fishing is top notch too! I caught several Smallmouth Bass, the largest topping 5 lbs! The lake has Salmon and Trout as well. Loons, Moose, Osprey, Kingfishers, and an occasional Eagle make up some of the impressive wildlife! Even the restaurants were a pleasant surprise.
Perhaps most importantly, both the thought and effort that Peter and Jane put into this place is unsurpassed. Their hospitality is a welcome departure from that "northeast attitude" that we all have unfortunately become accustomed to. Whether your party is large or small, this place is truly a "no brainer" and even if you just need the smaller but ample space of the cottage, the set up and privacy is spot on. We will undoubtedly return, hoping to find enough friends and family to occupy the bigger portion of the property. So, no matter what season, this place has it all and I can assure you that this perfect spot will not be a secret for long!!
